a/n: first caleb piece i've published :3 warming up to write some more in the future muahah. very unedited so bare with me
"pips, you feelin' curry tonight?"
you stop rifling around in the box on the ground, stray strands of hair sticking to your neck. it had been hours of unpacking and assembling furniture in your new home with Caleb, the sound of curry sending a thunderous wave in your stomach. Loud enough, it seemed, for your unsuspecting husband to hear.
caleb lets out a knowing laugh, closing the distance between you to smooth the frizzy hairs poking out of your ponytail. "is that a yes, then?" he asks, punctuating his question with a kiss to your forehead.
"sounds yummy, but i don't know any curry places around here," you glance at your phone, bricked and dead from assembly tutorials. your charger packed somewhere in the sea of beige moving boxes, waiting to be found until the very end. your husband is down a phone as well, forgetting he left it placed on top of his jet before taking off and flying into the ether. his new one isn't due to come in the mail until the end of the week, leaving you both with only previous knowledge on the best eateries around your new home.
"i know a place," caleb perks up, "i saw one on the road before turning into our street. we'd been there before, remember?
you furrow your brows, too hungry to remember ever being on this side of town before. "we have?"
"we ordered green curry and you ordered the lamb?" caleb's teasing gaze changes to a pinch to your cheek, which-at the state of your hunger-didn't find amusing. "c'mon~ don't tell me you forgot already!"
"we've never been to this side of town before caleb," you snatch your face away from his prying hands, too hot and sticky to entertain his teasing. "and I hate lamb. I would've never ordered it."
"where do you think you found out you hated lamb? we went there a month before I left for a mission, ya know, the one--"
"must've been your other girlfriend," you snap, letting the books in your hands fall back into the box with a resounding thud. "you know what? why don't you go there by yourself since you love it so much?
caleb sighs and stands in front of you, his hands on his hips with the audacity to look exasperated. you frown, turning your head back to your box of books, and pouting.
your head snaps up to watch caleb turn on his heel and out the front door with little else to say. you deflate, but the beige mountain of boxes demands your attention. poorly prepared and nourished, you don your armor and weapons, a ratty apron and a box cutter, and fight your way through.
caleb returns twenty minutes later and the sound of a plastic bag crinkling in the distance peels your attention away from your husband's collection of model planes. you both freeze, staring at each other with caution as the two of you realize you have what the other wants.
"come here," he nods his head towards the kitchen, the island towering in pots and pans that have yet to be organized. you follow listlessly, tiptoeing around boxes and sets before meeting caleb in the kitchen, where he has a mouthful of chicken tikka masala ready for you.
you narrow your eyes and furrow your brow, but caleb silently fights your back, giving you a warning glance before your close your lips around the spoon. the tang of the spices, complimented with a small tear of naan in between the rice and gravy makes you close your eyes to relish in, never mind the food burning down your throat.
"good, right?" he smiles, using his thumb to wipe the corners of your mouth.
still chewing, you nod, swallowing quickly to welcome your next bite.
it isn't until hours later, laying on a mattress that still laid on the floor that you remember the logo of a goat riding a bicycle, long before caleb joined the DAA and before you thought of being a hunter.
"ohh, i remember now," you smile, watching caleb snort in his sleep.
"my 'other girlfriend'," he huffs, yanking the comforter back over his shoulder in disbelief.
