( male, Benjamin Wadsworth, he/him ) look who goes there! It’s Archer Lane. wait, you don’t know who he is/are? the 25 year old projectionistat route 82 drive-in has been in town for, like, 3 years. i believe they live in richmond, but i usually see them around skin deep. they can be a bit gullible, but i think being easy-going kinda balances them out, you know?
Child of the system. Gamer, movie nerd, budding crypto investor. Soft boy.
Archie grew up in and out of the foster system, eventually able to track down his father to maplebrook once he finished college and moved here to get to know him.
He is passionate about movies, gaming and after studying economics at university has been getting into investment and crypto-trading. Able to utilise his education while still being able to live a lowkey lifestyle and focus on bonding with his dad and making new friends.
While working at the drive-in he has set up a little gaming station for him to pass time while the movie is playing, a mix of old school classic equipment and modern gaming systems, which he will sometimes stream for an additional revenue income.
He is interested in starting up a podcast and would love to find someone around town to join him, as well as interviewing people around town to get insights they can share to his audience.
a little about him:
Archer 'Archie' Lane (fc: Benjamin Wadsworth)
23 y/o
status: single
sexuality: pansexual
likes helping out anyone he sees who needs it, even if it causes him to mess up his plans for the day
loves talking and shooting the shit with his friends for hours on end
will spend hours on end gaming until someone reminds him to go outside
can be quite naive and gullible, can be talked into doing anything by those he trusts
very playful energy with lots of joking and teasing
easy going and feels comfortable in a more passive role in a relationship
with all the disruptions of his childhood he has a lot of built up love to give when he finds the right people to give it to
aesthetics: old school tech pieces, random doodles in the corners of every bit of paper, any way of lighting a room that isn't ceiling lights, soft cotton hoodies with frayed drawstrings, scattered comic books next to thick volumes on economics, texting at random hours in the night but being unreachable before lunchtime, squeak of the brakes on his old school bicycle that he rides around town.

"Oh god, no. I insist." Caroline said, setting the money down on the counter. She didn't want to get him into any kind of trouble. At the mention of games, Jonathan jumped excitedly. "Mummy got me a Christmas game on my Switch but it is so hard to play and I need help!" He announced, and Caroline was unable to hold back the soft chortle. "That would be a huge help, thank you."
Archie reluctantly took the money and put it in the drawer before pulling his attention back to Caroline and her son. "Oh you know I'm always down for a Switch party lil man, we'll find a way to beat it together I'm sure" he grinned before looking back at his mom. "Anytime, you know I'll help you out with anything you need right? Just ask and I'm there, no matter how ridiculous it might be" he smiled, offering out his arms for a hug if she wanted.
lemon's heart was breaking into a million pieces. his mouth flapped open and closed like a fish as he struggled to cope with this life altering news. "wh-what do you mean, cats and milk?" cats loved milk. that was an undeniable fact of lemon's world. to be fair, he was raised on saturday morning cartoons. "i hate this new, whimsy-less world." he pouted, pushing his bottom lip out like a child.
Archie's rambling came to a very quick halt as he noticed the other's mouth opening and closing like a fish. "Oh shit...sorry, my bad" he stumbled, immediately regretting his little rant on the lies of TV and movies, when you had seen as many as him it was easy to forget not everyone had the same take aways. "I totally didn't mean to ruin the illusions...I think the world should definitely have more whimsy like the cartoons...but, ya know, life" he felt very guilty all of a sudden and racked his brains to try and think of a way to make it up to the other who looks like he might be about to cry.
"i'm sure we could scrounge up some pizza, now that we're both thinking of it." even little lizard's head popped up at the mention of pizza, although she could barely keep her eyes open. "okay, wonderful. whenever you're ready, it's only a short walk from here. we live above the flower shop." it was a cozy little two-bedroom apartment, and it wasn't much but he didn't need much. it was home. he had the means to raise his daughter in a much nicer place, but maple brook was his home and nothing could compare to it.
"Now you're really making it impossible to refuse, sharing some pizza would be amazing" Archie grinned, even giving a playful wink at the little sleepy head which had popped up. "Lead the way" he added as he took up step beside the other and as they made their way towards the cozy apartment above the flower shop. Archie always liked the company, it often got a little lonely at his work so on his days off he made the most of trying to be sociable. "This is such a lovely spot to live, you must love waking up to all those flowers every day, I'd offer to get you some as a thank you for the invite, but you're already spoiled by all these" he chuckled.

"wait, what do you mean?" lemon stared at the other like they had two heads. he felt like he had been shaken to his core by this revelation, and truly didn't know how to react. sure, he'd been homeschooled most of his life, and skipped a lot of the school he was supposed to have attended, but this news was devastating to him. he felt like the education system had failed him. which, it had, deeply, but not in the way he thought. "what do you mean that bears don't actually eat honey?"
"It's all big movie propaganda dude" Archie said with a shake of his head and a slight grin on his face at the way the other was staring at him like he'd just told him the most shocking news imaginable. "It's not just that, sharks can't smell blood, dogs aren't really colourblind and cockroaches wouldn't survive an apocalypse" he added, hoping he wasn't shattering the illusions too much. "And don't even get me started on cats and milk"
"Nah, it's my fault." Ale easily waved off the apology. He was slightly embarrassed to have been recognized. "I promise I'm not always here. It just seems like it." He ran a hand through his hair, tugging at the curls where they snagged on his fingers. He was due for a cut soon. Or maybe he'd just let it grow out. Ale had never had hair longer than shoulder length and he was intrigued by the prospect. "I'd be glad for the help though."
"There aren't enough movie buffs in this town for my liking, so I notice anyone who comes here more than once a year" Archie shrugged, trying to stay casual as if it wasn't also Ale's handsome looks which stuck in his memory. He watched as the man played with his hair a little before realising he was being awkward and snapped out of it. "Sure thing, one refill coming right up dude...you enjoying the movie?" he asked as he took the cup and went over to fill it for him.
"Thank you." Caroline said, as she started to fish through her purse for money to pay for the apple juice and lemonade. "You know, that would actually be so helpful with Christmas coming up." She said, at Archie's kind offer. "I have to, you know..." She said, before nodding to Oliver. "Do some errands with Santa."
"Hey, no need, this one's on me" Archie said, refusing the money for the drinks, he'd work an extra shift next week to cover it. "Oh of course, you go run your errands with Santa and I'll keep this one entertained with Christmas games and treats" he grinned at the boy then back to Caroline. "Plus I can make sure you have a chance to relax after those errands by tiring Oliver out enough to have an early bedtime"
"oh, i get it. that's me with pizza. i have a third stomach when it comes to pizza." baby grinned, although he did get pizza as often as he liked. he was trying to raise lizard on home-cooked meals, like he had growing up. "okay, sweet. we were just about to head out, get the little one home to bed. do you want to tag along? have a cup of coffee at mine while you try some pie?"
"Now you've got me thinking about pizza" Archie teased, rubbing his stomach and acting like he was ready to eat everything. At the offer to join the other for a coffee and a pie at his house Archer nodded enthusiastically. "I'd love to, on a cold winter's day like this, that sounds like the best way to spend the afternoon" Clearly genuinely looking forward to the prospect.

"well, you could have a slice of each one. how many pies do you think you can eat in one sitting?" he teased, knowing there were too many pies on display to have a slice of each. although baby himself had a bottomless stomach and could certainly eat at least a pie and a half, maybe even two, before getting uncomfortably full. which, worked in his favour when raising a three year old, as he would eat whatever she didn't finish and nothing went to waste in his house. "however, i did make a second one of my strawberry rhubarb if you want to try some."
"Don't tempt me, I might look like a small thing but if you put a bunch of pies in front of me they'll disappear real quick" Archie teased back, which was mostly true. He could have a big appetite when in the mood even though sometimes he could also go long periods where he'd forget to eat. "Oh twist my arm" he chuckled, "I'd love to try some of the strawberry rhubarb if you are offering" Archer gave the other a smile and an appreciative nod.
"Can I have an apple juice, please?" Oliver immediately asked Archie, as they made their way over to the concessions stand. At Archie's question, she nodded her head. ADHD medication meant that she was perpetually thirsty. Always had something to drink nearby. "I'll have a lemonade, please."
"Of course lil dude, here you go" Archie nodded with a wink at Oliver handing him the apple juice carton and then grabbing a lemonade to give to his mom. "So how are you doing? Remember if you ever need a night off to yourself I'm always down for babysitting my favourite buddy"
A kid friendly movie playing at the drive in? That was her evening with Oliver sorted. She loved the opportunity to get out of the house for the evening without having to hire a babysitter. About halfway through the film, Oliver insisted that he needed another drink, so she got out of the car with him and made her way to the snack booth. That was when she ran into Archie.
"Oh, Archie. Hello. How are you doing?" She said, gripping hold of her son's hand. "This one just wants a drink."
Archie might put on a front of being a film buff who likes classic movies and indie hits, but his favourite nights working at the drive in were always when he got to do the animated kid's movies. He was still a kid at heart after all. "My man Olliebear, how's it going little man?" he grinned, having recovered from the fright and relaxing at the sight of Caroline and her son. "One more drink coming up. And would mom like anything for herself?" he added with a charming smile at her.
Alejandro loved the drive-in. It wasn't something he'd ever experienced before Maple brook, but ever since moving to town he made an effort to catch a movie at least once during the month. "Oh," he coughed, slightly embarrassed to be caught wandering around. "I was just gonna get a refill." He held up the soda cup so that it was visible.
"Oh..right, my bad" Archie breathed, glancing between the soda cup and the man who he recognised as a regular visitor to the drive in. "Need me to help? Or no, you probably know where it is, not that I notice you come here a lot or anything" he rambled a little before giving up trying to explain and just offering a smile, "You just made me jump and my brain was on other things...sorry dude"
"You know usually most people stay in their cars and watch the movie...or do other stuff" Archie said with a glance at the only other person wandering around. He'd only left his projection booth to use the bathroom and hadn't expected the fright of bumping into someone on the way back. "Did you need something?"

if you asked him, that pie was a work of art. a masterpiece. truly one of the most incredible things he'd ever created, second only to lizard herself. the little girl was asleep in his arms, as it was way past her bedtime, and he knew they needed to get going soon, but decided to take one last look at his beautiful pie. "you know, of all the places i've travelled, maple brook is still, and always will be, my favourite." he said idly, to no one in particular. but then he spotted someone out of the corner of his eye, and he turned to smile at them. "like, look at these pies. don't they all look delicious?" he shifted the sleeping girl, debating putting her down in the wagon. however, she would only be this small for a little while longer, and he was going to miss this one day soon.
Archer had been in Maplebrook a couple of years now but every now and then he was reminded just how different this place was to every where he'd lived before. The simplicity of someone stopped just to admire pies was an example of that unique pace of life that existed here. "They sure do all look delicious..." he nodded in agreement, "What they really need to do is make one which is part of all of them together so that you don't have to choose just one" Archie chuckled, flashing a grin and then shrugging, "Or I guess just get them all and have a bite of each, but that would be a bit wasteful I guess"
