alpha is a good girl
Ugh. Just saw someone say the stupid āsons of Evaā line was a great way to showcase humanity in that atrocious fanfic on Netflixā¦.
No. Just no⦠Tell me youāve never played the games without telling me. Tell me youāre only into the shitshow on Netflix because itās TikTok trendy without telling me.
āDevils never cryā is what showcases humanity!
Devils cannot cry tears of sorrow, because I. Order to feel sorrow you must first feel love and compassion, feelings demons, unless like Sparda or Trish gain humanity and awake to justice, cannot do.
To cry in the world of DMC is to BE HUMAN, to feel love! That is the core of the franchise!
Is it crazy to say the DmC Reboot does "demons as a methaphor" better than Netflix? Because instead of some complicated, badly written "demons are immigrants" and "war on terror" methaphor, demons are straight up just "the corrupt system", the main badguy is a rich billionare, you fight the media, 2 of the 3 main characters come from the abusive foster system, the cops work for the badguys and are portrayed as violent monsters, the demons pretty much control a police state with "hidden" surveillance, they use consumerism to control people, the prison complex. Like it's FAR from perfect (everything surrounding Lillith is a at best a big yikes). Like even the way Vergil is portrayed can be seen as a methaphor for the "neo-liberal hero" like Harry Potter who keeps the system pretty much as is but puts in "better" people in charge. Again, it's far from perfect but i think it does what Andi attempted much better while doing the political aspect in a better way than the show.
DmC reboot does everything better compared to NDMC because the people behind it had passion and drive to make something good. They also didn't lie and the developers said that the universe was going to be different and be a different take on Devil May Cry.
I am still conflicted if I dislike Vergil from the show or the reboot more. Vergin, I feel, still moves the plot and is a perfect foil to Donte. Like you said, Vergin and Donte are two sides of leftist politics. Donte wants to burn it all down and start over while Vergin wants to keep the status quo to install himself as a new ruler.
While NDMC Vergil is just a worst OG Vergil and Reboot Vergil combined. I think I hate NDMC Vergil more over all. Reboot Vergil I think I dislike because the writing and plot just didn't build him up well enough but you can see what they were trying to do.

I genuinely don't understand why people keep saying that DMC5 "whitewashed" Vergil.
DMC5 didn't suddenly turn him into a good person. It gave context to why he became the person he is.
Understanding a character's motivations is not the same thing as excusing their actions. If we aren't allowed to understand why Vergil did what he did, then he's not really a character anymoreāhe's just a cool villain with a katana.
People act as if DMC5 rewrote his personality, but how can you "whitewash" characterization that was barely explored in the first place? You're talking as if we had full access to his inner thoughts and motivations before DMC5, when we really didn't.
The way some fans talk about the series, you'd think Vergil had a fully developed character arc before DMC5, but he didn't. Before DMC5, we knew he wanted power, we knew he was Dante's brother, and we knew he had an incredible presence as a character. What we didn't have was much insight into his thoughts, motivations, or emotional state.
And honestly, if we're talking about inconsistent characterization, Dante is a much bigger example. Depending on which game, novel, manga, or supplementary material you're looking at, his personality can feel completely different. Sometimes it feels like Capcom itself wasn't entirely sure what direction to take him.
Meanwhile, Vergil's motivations in DMC5 are still deeply selfish, even by the end of the game. He chooses to take responsibility for the consequences of his actions, but not because he suddenly feels compassion for humanity or remorse for all the lives that were lost.
As Visions of V suggests, V himself realizes that Vergil needs to confront the things he left behindāmost importantly, Dante. That's exactly what Vergil ends up doing. He takes responsibility for his own mess instead of forcing Dante to keep carrying the burden for him.
But he isn't doing it for humanity. He's doing it because of Dante, because of their relationship, and because he can no longer keep running from it.
He isn't suddenly altruistic. He isn't suddenly innocent. DMC5 is literally built around the consequences of his actions. The difference is that now we understand the trauma, fear, and obsession that drove him down that path in the first place.
DMC5 also expands on Dante. One of the biggest things it establishes is how much he values family. So much so that, by the end, he chooses to go with Vergil rather than simply abandon him. That doesn't mean Dante approves of everything Vergil has done. It means their relationship is more complicated than a simple hero-versus-villain dynamic.
As for people asking why Capcom seems reluctant to revisit certain storylines or concepts, I think the answer is obvious: making the overall narrative more consistent would require changing, reinterpreting, or expanding on things that some fans have idealized for years. The moment Capcom tries to do that, people accuse them of ruining the characters.
P.S. I hate Twitter
it's coming along nicely, i actually do love my artstyle. the benefits of being a paswg, sonic, & inuyasha enjoyer
My fear for NDMC S3:
Heās still got it š
I will permit ether bikes also in xenoblade 2, with my sole condition being Nia still rides Dromarch, and he's the one riding the bike
