1st Known Photograph of People Shows the Focus of Labor

According to “historians” on Instagram of Louis Daguerre’s 1838 daguerreotype:

“The image was taken in Paris at the Boulevard du Temple, a busy street. Due to the long exposure time required for early photography – around 10 minutes – the bustling street appears empty, as most people moved too quickly to be captured. However, in the lower portion of the image, a man getting his shoes shined stood still long enough to be immortalized in history.

Nobody – a self-portrait Many years ago I came across a medieval print in a book depicting a character without a body which I duly noted with a drawing in a notebook. I decided to do a modern version here.

When considering Gerhard Richter’s Strip from 2012, one moves from the single dimension of Barnett Newman’s “zip” from 1948, to a two-dimensional field wherein what was once the linear-singular becomes a multi-part linear rendering, again from a single dimension to a two-dimensional plane.
