World Mental Health Day is near and dear to me. I've spent so much of my time over the years trying to encourage and have open, positive discussions about mental health. Through this I've met some wonderful individuals who have educated me through their experience, and at the same time have helped me understand and accept what I deal with and what I can do the benefit myself and those around me. Unfortunately, stigma and acceptance has been the big road block for many to share in this type of experience. Our society is slowly working to improve this negative connotation but currently it still exists and affects others perceptions on the matter of mental well being. Right now with everything going on I need daily reminders that through the chaos I need to take care of my own mental health. You cannot be an aid to others if you cannot learn to do the same for yourself when needed. It carries times of struggles, but acknowledgment is what will help us through and help us find balance in everything affecting our day to day life. I hope you all take the time each day to do something that helps you. And remember that hope, support, and perseverance will get you to where you are meant to be. Love always, Siobhan
