reworking oc magic (again)
I'm going to lock in the decision and decide that light/dark/bright/shading does NOT ❌ matter. The ONLY thing that represents magic is the HUE.
Now, there are 360 points of hue on a colorwheel. Don't say "there's 361 if you include zero!" because 0 and 360 are the same point. However I AM going to include white & black & grey scale seperately.
So I have 360 hues + 21 from grey scale (every multiple of 5 including 0)
But let's focus just on hues for right now.
Either I can have 360 different abilities or 72 (sets of 5). I can also tie this with the fact body & heart have two different abilities, so whatever number I end up with i have to double.
Since grey scale is sets of five, hue will be too.
72 hue + 21 grey scale = 93 colors
93 body + 93 heart = 186 total magic
Am I going to decide what all of these are?? Heck no. Does this mean I should probably go in and figure out what they are for my existing characters who I haven't even DESIGNED their soul forms for yet?? Probably...
** another side note since there's been a huge plot hole in the lore and I'm trying to fix it now
Basically when a baby is in the womb, it's just the puppet. The empty shell kind of develops while the mask is hypothetically "open" like a mouse trap. When a soul gets sent down and goes inside a puppet, the mask closed, "trapping" it inside. This is why the soul/true form can come out by removing the mask, but since they have masks and bodies in the first place they're naturally inticed by it, and soul form is "taboo". It's not a physical restraint, it's a mental one, a societal one.
Halfnote, if no soul is directed towards the puppet and it cannot trap anything, thats a determined neonatal death. Since the puppet/vessel cannot pilot itself, it dies.
Secondly, Souls were originally genderless, but entering the Mardom Era they became gendered so they could fit into the gendered puppets. Everything else the puppet adapts around to the soul though, such as body shape, extra features, etc.
Thirdly, souls are not created with pre determined magic. They are created to absorb magic. Once attached to a puppet they begin learning the traits attached to it. Whether that's the moms magic, the dads magic, or one of each. Souls do not attach to nationality or ethnicity though. That is entirely in the vessel. Language and personality and such is still a learned behavior.
Fourth, certain traits and mutations in the soul can shape the puppet. I said "the puppet adapts around the soul." Every soul is just a non-human animal soul stretched out to the rough shape of a human. Usually details like extra eyes, extra fingers, wings, tails, get taken out. Sometimes they get left in.
A majority of the time traits like wings & tails, especially ones that were not originally part of the soul, and rather, grew out of it when it absorbed specific magic, do not leak through the puppet. These appendages are tucked away when soul form is trapped. The other appendages that are tied to a function that the puppet DOES have, such as eyes and fingers, may cause the puppet to adapt around them. Causing a regular form to have extra eyes.
These peculiar mutations are usually named after the trait they are tied to. Having extra eyes is called the "spider trait" as it most commonly seen in souls created from spiders.
** And if you're curious WHY any of this weird stuff was a plothole in the first place. You should read my upcoming oc comic :)
