Alec waved off the apology with a vague gesture and a broad grin, âDonât worry about it, lassâ itâd take loads more than that to get a rise outta me, I can promise you that.â He pushed away from the door frame languidly, as though they had all the time in the world to have a conversation about something as mundane as managing the infirmary stock; but then again, Alec had never operated on anyone elseâs schedule other than his fatherâs when the older man explicitly required it of him. âCompetence is my middle name,â He drawled, flashing Aoife a wink before he whistled appreciatively, âThatâs impressive. Did ye go to medical school anâ all or have ye been with us too long for that? Not that it makes a difference, really, Iâm just curious. To talk shop, though, anything in particular you lot are hurting forâ stock wise? I can poke around the warehouse and coordinate some shipments and such.â
.
Aoife laughed at that. âYou have more patience than I doâ she admitted. âSome of these royals make me want to tear my own hair out.â There were some pirates who did too, if she was being honest. âCompetence huh? Is that French?â she teased. She was unable to hide a hint of pride in her voice as she answered his question. âI studied medicine at university back in Londonâ she said. âBut then I got bored of working in a hospital, if you can believe that.â Sheâd ended up in this life purely by chance, but she didnât regret it for one second. âWell, we can always use more things like aspirin and band-aidsâ she said.
