Harder babe! me in my head: the Gary Jules cover of Mad World strips away the upbeat nature of the original hit by Tears for Fears. the dichotomy of depressing lyrics and a solid beat with uptempo bass and trumpets really shows the almost manic depression that I believe was intended to be displayed in the original mixing girl: oh fuck! fuck me!  me in my head: Gary Jules took the song in a direction that gentrified it and made it what one would expect a sad song to be, and thus it became the basis for many awful memes, turning a great song with a lot of interesting emotional insight into a stereotypical mess
