Brief context:

Catalina was born from a brief affair between Agustín Allende and a Spanish aristocrat.

Her relationship with her father is strained, built on fear and uneasy loyalty. When Agustín learned in his youth that he was going to have a child, he assumed it would be a boy—a perfect heir. However, when he finally met the child and discovered she was a girl, it was a blow to his pride, knowing that his family name would live on only through Catalina.

In Escalera, Catalina is seen as Allende's trophy daughter—a beautiful face who has never had to "work" for anything.

Yet behind the image of the "pretty trophy" and Catalina's "naive appearance" lies a complex web of emotions born from fear and the eventual revelation of the atrocities committed by Allende.

Catalina will also have a mission of her own! It's called "Impure Flowers"!

It is about Miss Catalina seeking company—specifically, a gentleman to accompany her on a walk to gather flowers, an activity that entertains her and allows her to get some fresh air away from the tension that often permeates Escalera. John accompanies her on this walk, during which they discuss certain topics in greater depth

Their relationship develops into a father-daughter bond

Catalina sees a healthy father figure in John, and John views Catalina practically as a daughter.
