RED SHROUD ||BARRICADE DAY 2026||
This was inspired by Louise Michel’s poem À mes frères. I attempted to translate the last two lines:
As for us, let us wrap ourselves
In our red banners to die;
Together, in these beautiful shrouds,
We would be happy to sleep.
She wrote this poem in prison for her camarades who died/were exiled after the Paris Commune of 1871. It’s a very moving poem. Sadly, I couldn’t find an English version and I’m not too confident in my translation skills. I really wanted to draw Gavroche and Éponine for the occasion. Of course, Enjoltaire are here too.
