Summary: Maelle left and Painted Verso and Gustave have a happy (and very kinky) live together. The Canvas has matured and watches the pair who is now planning their marriage - until it doesn't just watch anymore.

Seems like some piece of Verso is still alive after all.

“On your knees.”

Verso opened his eyes and froze. The priest’s dark figure stood still in the doorway, rigid and framed by light. The scent of myrrh and wood intensified, and the painter opened his mouth in astonishment.

“What?” he blurted.

The priest gave him a slight nod. “On your knees.”

Verso complied, knowing not why. He fell to his knees a few centimetres from the priest, on the threshold of the confessional booth, and looked up.

How ridiculous he must have seemed to himself.

“You’ve lost your way and nearly committed an unforgivable sin.” Noah reached out and placed his hand on Verso’s head. The man watched his movements as if hypnotised, without the desire to move and without a single thought in his head. “Do you still wish to end your life?”

The gloved fingers gently stroked his hair and a shiver ran through his body.

The painter swallowed hard. “No.”

“Do you want to live?”

The other gloved hand rested on Verso’s cheek.

What’s happening? he thought.

“Yes.”

His eyes adjusted to the light. He suddenly saw Noah’s sorrowful face and the light trapped in his perfectly combed hair with unexpected clarity. 

“Then live.”

I just want them to be happy okay ❤️

15) Category: a fic about a rare pair

"Strawberries taste better together" by Queen_of_Tentacles

Word Count: 4,414

Summary from ao3: For the first time that week, the rain stopped.

The manor had not seen a lot of sun during this time of the downpour, not even through the small cracks in the thick grey cloud that had overshadowed the sky.

The halls had been quiet for some time, from the early hours when the bodies of those who resided inside started to get ready for the day.

My notes: Restave! This is a continuation of Queen_of_Tentacles' series "Workshops and rose petals," and what a sweet addition it is! I love seeing new Renoir/Gustave fics, and Queen has such a lovely verse here. Would highly recommend!

Word Count so far: 19,610

Summary from ao3: Gustave is the crowned prince of the kingdom of Lumiere. He has begun his dreaded march to the kingdom of Sirène to merry the next queen, Sophie, as king consort. He’s not too enthusiastic about it.

Everything changes when the convoy gets interrupted by a winged beast that abducts him like some fairy tale.

My notes: oh my goodness this fic!!!! Dragon Verso! Prince Gustave! This fic is so incredible! The world building is so immersive and ties into in-game elements so cleanly. It's strangers to lovers, and the on-going bonding between Verso and Gustave is so thorough and sweet. Gustave is fierce, and Verso is trying. He's trying so hard 😭 I gobble up each new chapter, and implore anyone reading this to go check it out!!! 🐲

Word count so far: 4,020

Summary from ao3: We often paint the bars of our own prison. We're not (overly) brooding and beating about the bush. (They don't deserve to be beaten.)

My notes: This is set in Maelle's ending, and features Verso and Gustave forming a friendship (and more) except...Verso didn't tell Gustave the truth about SWC...someone else did. Poor Verso! Poor Gustave! 😭 (wonderful fic and would definitely recommend!)

"Lost in the Ink" by DrakesFortune67

Word count: 1,182

Summary from ao3: When a Writer returns to the Canvas, his ink slowly kills anyone made of pure chroma. Renoir has one shot to save his family, but will it be enough?

My notes: Oh this was gooood. Renoir/Gustave only the two that meet are Writer Gustave and Painted Renoir, both trying to save those they love (and "their" loves). Writer Gustave is clearly tortured in this story, as is P!Renoir. This hurt so good and was a fascinating take on a Restave prompt DrakesFortune67 brought to life for wals (I believe). Highly recommend!

19) Category: a fic about a character you've never read about before

"Wisdom of Ages" by vailkagami

Word count: 7,482

Summary from ao3: Francois never needed any friend but Clea, and with her gone he is perfectly fine with sitting in his cave doing nothing, forever. He absolutely has no need, nor patience, for the two humans who suddenly show up to drag him out for an adventure he neither wants nor needs.

And what he wants least of all is having to witness them figure out their relationship while repeatedly almost dying for one another and then getting mad about it.

Relationship Level 7

Even though he doesn’t forgive Verso, Gustave asks him to stay. Verso’s lies ultimately hadn’t changed the moments they shared and the feelings that had grown even if his secrets damaged their relationship in other ways. Gustave desperately doesn’t want to be alone in his final moments and Verso’s guilt keeps him glued to the other man’s side.

Gustave’s heavy heart pounds in his chest with anticipation. The only warning is the shockwave from the monolith. Afterwards there is a stillness like the world taking its final breath.

There is no chaos, there is no screaming, there are only petals in the wind. Verso pulls Gustave in close trying to keep him in his arms for as long as he can until he inevitably starts to disperse into hundreds of petals. Verso just holds Gustave and closes his eyes focusing on the feeling of the man in his arms not daring to look at him.

“See you…”

Gustave’s voice fades, Verso feels the warmth leave his arms. He pauses and waits…

Holding back tears closing his hands around petals he whispers to himself…

“…. In the next life”.

Awww I love Princess Mononoke... 😩

I'm still having such a blast with writing game! I've had a chance to write for so many fun prompts, and have had some wonderful fics written for me.

I'd had some delusional hopes of getting to all requests before my kind-of holiday starting tomorrow, but, alas, life got in the way. I have nine more amazing prompts still to fill, and they are coming, but it'll take a wee while longer than I'd hoped. Watch this space?!

Verso has already fallen asleep on Gustave when the other man finishes the last lines of today's journal. The chroma shimmers beautifully in the low light of the little lamp on his nighstand, and as it seems to have dried, Gustave runs an ink stained finger over it, reveling in the memories he has put in there today.

They will always have to hide, Gustave knows, closing his journal on this depressing note and seals it, keeping those thoughts hidden between the lines. […]

Verso stirs against him as he moves, blue eyes opening sleepily with his cheek squished against Gustave's chest.

"You should be sleeping, mon lapin noir", Verso mumbles, letting out a content hum when the Writer leans down to kiss his hair. The scent of paint, it's gotten heavier in the last days. The chroma flecks on his hands multiplying by each day. But the Painter doesn't talk about it, so Gustave doesn't pry. And Verso doesn't pry into his writings.

Mon lapin noir, Verso loves calling him like this, and it makes Gustave feel loved, wanted. He didn't plan on falling for Verso, the son of the Dessendre family, a Painter. He should know best from all the romance he wrote, one can't plan where love falls.

Relationship Level 6

Verso and Gustave are exhausted. They had given their all in the battle against the paintress and it had paid off. They won. Verso and Gustave take a moment to rest, backs against eachother as the others sprint ahead to plant the 33’s final expedition flag.

“Gustave…” Verso’s mind seems distant. There is a pain in his voice, “I can’t lie to you anymore… I… I need to tell you what’s about to happen… and even if the others know… I don’t think it will change anything…”

Verso pauses before he pours his heart out for the first time since Julie… raw, vulnerable, honest. He expects Gustave to be mad but he’s just silent. Staring at his prosthetic… processing the news of not being “real” about being a painted being stuck in a canvas, about how Verso ended up a plaything for this families grief and how badly Verso wanted it to end. And how the time he had been fighting for was never even an option.

“I’m not going to tell the others…” Gustave surrenders. “They deserve to be happy and hopeful in their final moments.”

“Gustave….” Versos voice breaks slightly from the hurt the guilt of it all. “I am so sorry…”

Verso kicks himself internally he wishes he had better words than just sorry.

“Thank you… for finally being honest…” Gustave musters out, his breath shaky as he simply stares at his hands and processes… quiet tears begin to fall down his cheek. Versos heart shatters but he knows he deserves it. After everything Verso deserves to feel every last shard of those words cut his heart to pieces.

Verso simply sits with Gustave quietly, like they have all the time in the world.

Chapter 1/? 🤭

"…Y-You're really going to leave me out here to die, you stupid lazy bas-"

His voice had come out in labored huffs. Snarling pain that seared into each and every syllable, gone the moment his silver eyes found Gustave's. Gustave blinked and took in the scene in front of him, watching blood and rain mix as it ran its way down the stranger's left arm. Beneath that, Gustave could see his side had been left torn open and what remained of his shirt was now hanging off his frame in mere suggestions of fabric. Gustave's mouth worked for a few seconds, his knuckles had gone white in contrast to the umbrella's dark blue wrap. He was brought back to reality, catching a glimpse of what looked like a world-weary smile crack across the stranger's lips,

"You.. aren't Monoco."
