the nature of tumblr is such that every few years it will independently invent goodfeathers

it took me an embarrassingly long time to understand that “i don’t know my character yet” wasn’t a craft problem. it was a cowardice problem. i was letting them live in situations that were too safe. no one reveals themselves while everything is fine. people show you who they are when something they want is about to be taken away.

There’s always that one fictional character that you have such a complicated relationship with because you love them but you also know that if they were real you’d punch them in the face at least once a day
