At the end of this period a single little sea horse prances out, then another and another. In some species they are no bigger than a comma. Finally with a convulsive movement Papa ejects a herd of young clinging together with air bubbles in the shape of a ball. As this ball rolls toward the surface 50 or 60 infants dart out from it in all directions. The process continues until hundreds of nimble little sea colts have emerged.” Deena Clark, 1964, Reader’s Digest : Marvels & Mysteries of Our Animal World
