i have a complicated view of this where i can take a lot of the show’s annoying parts as things that Would happen irl, in that how the show’s social behaviour is the characters’ social behaviour. the show is conservative so ofc the characters are too. this is why i very much understand robert’s ignorance of his mother, how empathetic can a man be to his mother? but the thing is, they can be. people surprise you. social behaviour isnt as easy as “theyre sexist”. and thats when it goes from a social fault to a writing fault influence by the social. women arent just absent irl, theyre ignored in much more sinister ways.
