I can’t say I’m comfortable with the idea that women need to cover up completely to avoid tempting men and I doubt everyone who wears a niqab or burqa does so by choice. Nonetheless I don’t think I can support such an attack on freedom of expression.
yeah, these types of bans only go after religions that aren't Christianity. And it starts with a burqa, then hijab, then any Muslim headcovering... basically its a pipeline we should not be going down,, and forcing someone to do something against their will is already in most cases a crime (or misdemeanour)
Also if you ban them in public places, you are saying that women who observe those traditions aren't allowed in public. Thus curtailing the very civil rights you claim you're trying to protect.
Also, let's say for a minute that your scare scenario is true. That woman in that niqab is horribly abused and her husband will damn near kill her (perhaps no "near" about it) if she goes out unveiled.

Others came from Europe because Europe had spent centuries persecuting them and then attempted to exterminate them. Today, a large proportion of Israeli Jews descend from communities from the Middle East and North Africa.”
Theo frowned. “But Zionism was a European colonial movement.”
“Colonial movements generally have a mother country.”
“Britain.”
“Britain fought the Zionists, restricted Jewish immigration during the Holocaust, and eventually left due to Jewish insurgency. Israel was not established as a British colony.”
“It was enabled by Britain.”
“So was Jordan. You seem less emotionally agitated by Jordan.”

Look, it's simple. If a person has to actively work to make money, they're not "the rich" and they're not the problem. A surgeon making $200k a year still stops making money if they stop showing up to do surgery, because they're still selling their labor. The radical discrepancies in how we value different skills are certainly a problem, but the guy who makes money when he doesn't even get out of bed is the one making money on the value of other people's labor.
