I’m not too sure if I was a big fan of Rosalina and Peach being related, I guess that happened. If it were me, I would have loved to see maybe Peach struggling with feelings on the fact that she does not know where she comes from or her true family a bit more. Seeing that Mario and Luigi have each other and such a powerful bond, that it makes her wonder if she could ever have something like that. She is not related to anyone in the Mushroom Kingdom, and the first humans she meets are sort of a package deal already. It makes her feel a bit isolated and alienated. Rosalina could have served as a sort of (lack of a better word) example that strong bonds like that can still be made, even with people from different places. (Ex: with the Lumas). Even I think even Yoshi could have helped with that theme given that he just popped outta an egg and later found by the bros. Wished maybe Mario and Luigi had more to go on with narratively too maybe even show that bonds too can have their ups and downs (maybe disagreements or differences), but this is Illumination and I know they were not trying to go for any huge themes or dramas. Despite my hopes for maybe a more deeper story, I still enjoyed the movie! It was a LOT of fun and full of energy that kept you engaged. Mario and Peach interactions were sweet and SO cute! Luigi and Yoshi supporting and encouraging him was great! I was giggling the whole time! Critics were being really harsh with this movie and for what I see, if you really love the Mario series, this movie hits the spot. It is full of a lot of references and music from games, and so many familiar faces. I cannot wait for this movie to hit streaming services so I can rewatch again!
