So I had thought while scrolling on TikTok this morning.
I have a KNY OC for who I plan to write a story eventually and one of the main themes of this story is about how almost all the people in her life seem to perceive her as way older than her years (at least two cases are actually justified though) and as someone who can be trusted to take care of herself regardless of circumstances. She was born independent after all. The kind of kid you can forget you have and she will be alright by the time someone remebers to look for her. And she won't contradict you much on it. She is indeed a remarcable case. But also, regardless of the way she acts, the way she talks and sounds, the way she looks and despite how competent, resourceful and self sufficient she is... she is still a child who needs someone that she can count on instead of her having to always ignore or lick her own wounds.
And it hit me today that this describes in a way Sanemi too. He comes across as this tough, self reliant almost asocial man who can very well take care of himself and is among the most durable and strong charcaters in the series.
Like, trying to harm this man bad enought to matter would be a great yet frustrating and time consuming to accomplish feat... then he will most probably still kill you. And he will laugh like a mad man about it too. What what did anyone expect? The bloke is ruthless.
He is one kind of a swordsman and fighter.
A crafty hunter who could come with all sorths of ways to kill demons and to whom playing dirty is his first option.
He is overly serious and severe in his ways.
And don't even get anyone started on that mouth.
His presence alone demands a level of fear or discipline from most who know him.
He is an older brother and a father figure to his younger siblings. The man of the house.
He has the attitude of an one man army... and he is also a lost lonely soul who reached adulthood while missing some vital steps in that journey. He is shy, immature, petty, has poor control of his emotions, is reckless and often neglects himself, cares more than he is willing to admit and thinks that as long as his only family member still alive gets to grow up and have a normal life he shouldn't matter.
He was a parentified child who willingly turned himself into self destructive demon killing machine without any second thoughts and he often doesn't make the most wise decisions.
Regadless that is cannon and fannon, people often look at Sanemi as someone who is either unresonablly brutal, an unecessarily rude moron or, if you are one of his fans (that includes Genya) as someone who despite all his anthics is kind and actually secretely level headed and emotionally mature when demons are not an active part of his concerns (being kind at least is true).
But I don't think many people in his life saw him as someone who needed help, shouldn't be left alone or shouldn't always trust him to make the best decisions for himself (he doesn't).

Now there is at least one lovely person who will hate me for turning this into a brief Masachika Kumeno apreciation post, but the TikTok that inspired this involved him being pround of Sanemi for becoming a pillar and also I love them togheter.
Masachika, in my opinion, represents the exact two things Sanemi needs:
● an achor that would keep him from drifting too far away in his pursuit to kill all the demons he could find
● an older brother figure that Sanemi can lean on, get some sorth of guidance from and who will tell it to him as it is when he is in the wrong
It's clear that nothing could have convinced Sanemi to turn around and give up on his self imposed mission just as it's clear that rage will keep being his number one sourse of fuel regardless of what life may have brought upon him. So at the very least it's good that someone could see that about Sanemi and lead him to get the proper resources (traing, equipment, medical care and other necesities procured for him by the Corps) while also checking on him the way an older sibling would.
And by that I mean strong arming him too because, as my grandma would say, if you don't listen when asked nicely then you shall listen throught force. And hey, it woked. He managed to get Sanemi to keep himself alive and in one piece by the end of the story... keep that beak tiny and shut... I know what you thought of commenting...
Anyway... My point is we got reasons to be thankfull for Masachicka, as without him Sanemi may not have made it that far skill or being still alive wise and there would have been one less skilled fighter against the demon kind.
But on a petsonal level, the thing I apreciate Masachika the most about is the simple fact that he saw
