aka "a look at how I plan my story using Milanote"
[Note: I have a subscription, so I'm not limited by the number of cards I can have, otherwise this level of detail would be impossible. My subscription was a gift, though.]
So, this is the "landing page" for my story. The left column has my "poster", and underneath that is the summary I have on my info page on my blog. The other two columns, on the right, have links to the boards that make up this mess.
This is the "outfit catalogue" board. It has pics of the outfits for every sim involved in the story, along with notes on how I have used / will use them. (The order here is meaningless. The top row is just the order from my character page on my blog, and the other ones are just grouped by their relevance / if they actually show up.)
This is what part of the outfit catalogue actually looks like. I note what I might use the outfit for, and also any notes about it. (Is it out of character for said sim? Would it only be worn for specific occasions? Is it formal or casual? Is it for warm or cold weather? etc.)
This is the main worldbuilding board. Each kingdom on the continent has a section, and there's also a place for all my rambles about the world. (Anvia is on there, just cut off.)
Each kingdom's board looks like this. There's a couple more sections underneath, along with a doc for more in-depth rambles.
Now onto the actual planning portion!!
I've shared this pic before, but this is my overall timeline for the story. (It really needs an update, though.) I have mapped out the dates of when certain key events occur, as well as when the transitions between the Acts happen. (Blurred for spoilers.)
This is the main landing page for my planning though. Each Act has a spot that includes the timeframe, a summary of events, as well as what I want to accomplish during that act to move the story forwards. (Acts 4 and 5 not included for spoiler reasons, plus Act 5 doesn't fit on the screen without scrolling.)
Each individual Act looks like this, but with more chapters (again, they don't all fit without scrolling). This is a look at Act 2. I have a column for each chapter, with a list of scenes, as well as the timeline of the chapter.
The board for each scene looks like this. I have a super short summary, the location (including which of the 6 copies of Windenburg said lot is in), who's involved, and what they'll be wearing (cross-referenced with the Outfit Catalogue, ofc.). Then there's a more detailed summary that summarizes the beats/themes of the scene, as well as has some insight into what the characters are thinking and feeling.
The poses section varies from scene to scene, but the top section is for me to list any accessories I need, or any existing poses I have that might suit my needs, as well as rambling about the poses I might need to make. The checklist part is for the poses I need to make myself, usually.
The writing section contains two versions of the scene. A full-length prose version (since I do that sometimes for fun and practice), and the actual script. The script is essentially what I type on the screenshots, as well as was goes in the transcript under the cut.
This is what the scratch board looks like. It's where I dump all of the screenshots I take for the scene, and sort them out. I decide which ones I actually want to use, and put them in the right order. Then I decide what portion of the text is going to go on which screenshot. (Better example below)
Phew! Okay, that's everything!! (Except for the character boards but those are kind of spoilery and I'm in the process of replacing them anyways.) Hopefully this was at least kind of fun to look at. It honestly amazes me how organized this is, because literally nothing else in my life is even remotely organized, lol.
I should also note that it was @mellindi who originally keyed me into the idea of using milanote for story-planning, and some of my layouts take inspiration from hers.
Instagram is literally suppressing every video I made on reels about this so I’m turning to tumblr. On the 24th and 25th, we are striking on Meta services (Instagram, Facebook) as well as X/Twitter and Tiktok. Streaming services, google, and any amazon services should be boycotted as well if possible.
DO ✅
Engage with activities that are offline
Spend as little time online as possible
Tell your friends and family that you’re going dark and then put your phone in airplane mode!!
DO NOT ❌
Use any of these socials period. Do not give them your screen time
Use google to search for anything - use an alternative search engine
Buy anything online
Stream television or music - download your shows and watch offline if necessary
Why?
These corporations, especially during christmas, use our data to train their models for next year. They want to know what gifts we got and what we’re doing with them. By depriving these companies of our data, we are saying that we want to maintain the right to our data and privacy! Here’s a tiktok video that explains in more detail.
PLEASE reblog for more reach!!! Tumblr is the only platform I can think of that won’t suppress this strike.

So, as usual, I put everything off until the last minute, but I do want to do some kind of a writing challenge this November, though I don't want to support or be involved with the Nanowrimo organization right now.
So I have decided to just create a project and goal on trackbear, and since I would like to retain some sense of community and that special event magic, I also created a leaderboard for writing buddies to join in.
If anyone is doing a writing a challenge next month, whether 50k or not, and you'd like to join the leaderboard for some accountability and encouragement, here is the link and join code!
so I do most of my writing on 4thewords.com. It's a site that turns writing into a game: you get quests requiring you to fight monsters that require you to write x amount of words in y time, and get loot and win prizes and progress through several plotlines and all that. Great motivation.
they've just started their annual halloween/not-nanowrimo-because-screw-their-recent-face-heel-turn/winter event. And one of the quests—a quest that will only ever be available during this one event and which expires 44 days after you pick it up—requires you to write 250k words.
that's 5,682 words, per day, for a month and a half.
and, my friends, when I play a game, I am a completionist.
so goodbye everybody, you won't be seeing me until December.
(this is a lie. I've decided to count my tumblr posts toward my word count since they're usually worldbuilding & character development, so I'll probably be here infodumping to fluff up my daily progress.)
(and if I've somehow sold you on the appeal of 4thewords my referral code is ZIUQJ49028)
fuck nanowrimo so i’m doing outline october/novella november/rough draft month/writing month (who has not currently released their website yet, but i’m hopeful for it)
updates will be posted the same way i did for camp nano in april ! i am hopeful these challenges gain more traction and we can boycott nanowrimo thoroughly for their actions.
Just for the record, I currently have no plans on making a website, this is a community event that is meant to be shared in a community across multiple platforms via tags and word of mouth 💙
Making an official website would just centralize it and also cost money which I do not have and neither do I have the spoons to run a website either 🤣
i love it when a piece of media is like: is there anything more painful than knowing your sibling? is there anything more tragic than knowing they are the only person who will ever share the same experience as you? they were the only constant in your life. they were there since birth and now, no matter how they betray you, you will still love them. you will always feel the need to protect them even if you can no longer bring yourself to talk to them. will anyone else be able to understand? will anybody be able to love you and hate you and fear you the same way a sibling loves you and hates you and fears you? no, probably not

If you know what's happening (and has happened last year with NaNo) I want to offer some alternatives that people are working on to keep the event while ditching the organization.
@novella-november
Hate AI, but love writing challenges?
Want to take part in a global, fun project to write a Novella in one month?
Grab some friends, and t
I may reblog this post as I learn more but there are two right off the bat!
If you don't know why I feel the need to advocate for alternatives I will be getting into the second issue (not the triggering scandal last year) below the break.
(Long story short: On top of last year's scandal... they now have an AI sponsor. Which is a big red flag for me and feels like they are looking for content to train their AIs on as well as new consumers. What better place than thousands of unpublished novelists working on completing a novel in a month?)
(PS If you reblog... I don't need details of last year's scandal... please.)

Hi everyone, if you've been with me for a while you might know I'm a fan fo NaNoWriMo... The event, no longer the organization. I was wary... but willing to see how new policies and restructuring shook out after the major scandal last year (if you aren't aware, I won't be going into the details here, but you may find them triggering).
It's this second issue that I feel that I can actually speak on... Because NaNoWriMo has a new sponsor... and that sponsor is AI.
When I first heard that NaNo was okay with AI, I was wary but... not too upset. After all, NaNo's big thing for a long time was just "Just write" basically however you had too, whatever tools you need. I know that there are AIs designed to aid with grammar and clarity. And that seemed... if not fine, than understandable. NaNo (for me) is a major source of motivation and I could completely understand why NaNo wouldn't want wins invalidated because they used some kind of AI to help them along. Then I found out that NaNo picked up an AI sponsor and that completely changed the story for me. It went from the people NaNo served... to supporting one of the organizations that might be ripping off writers.
As I've said in the notes of my fics when I reluctantly took steps to protect my work from AIs like ChatGPT, putting my work in an AI is essentially monetizing my work without reimbursing me and other writers and undercutting jobs in writing that people like me truly want. I don't know what this sponsor's actual AI is like. But it is a massive red flag that they are sponsoring an organization that's focused on an event that generates thousands of potential books to train their AI on.
NaNo's official stance is "We also want to be clear in our belief that the categorical condemnation of Artificial Intelligence has classist and ableist undertones, and that questions around the use of AI tie to questions around privilege." NaNo is experiencing a lot of backlash.
I will be hoping that one of the alternatives are up and running come November.
do u ever write something and ur like WOAH WOAH SLOW DOWN BUDDY WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING. as if ur characters are sentient and you didn’t just write it (i do) (my characters r so alive 2 me)
To all my writers who have a tough time with smut terms and not knowing which ones to use, I have found the holy grail for us.
This reddit user, who I've recently found out is @kjscottwrites here on tumblr, took a poll of 3,500 people and went really in depth with asking their favorite terminology, along with actual pie charts on what the readers preferred to see in their smut.
Check out their post with the link to the Google doc here!
