Dear Bruce, 

These last weeks I begin to feel very mortal, which prompts this note to you. Perhaps I'm being paranoid. I hope so. In any case, if you're reading this, then I'm dead, and you figured out that the entry code is... BRUCE. I'm sorry I had to hide this part of my life from you, because this place only exists because of you. Becoming a father made me want to be a better man, and I started asking hard questions about the family business. So here we are. As I write this, you're 12 and a fine, good-hearted boy. So I'm sure you'll be a fine, good-hearted man. But that's all I know. I don't know what happened to me or your mother, or how life has turned out for you. I don't even know how old you are. So I'll resist giving you much fatherly advice. Only this: You can't have both happiness and the truth. You have to choose. I beg of you, my son, please choose happiness. Unless... Unless you feel a calling. A true calling.

dr. lecter: then we haven’t moved past apologies and forgiveness, have we?

will graham: we’ve moved past a lot of things. i discovered a truth about myself when i tried to have you killed.

dr. lecter: that doing bad things to bad people makes you feel good?

will graham: yes.

dr. lecter: i need to know if you’re going to try to kill me again, will.

will graham: i don’t want to kill you anymore, dr. lecter. not now that i finally find you interesting.

  dr. lecter: how does it feel consulting again with jack crawford and the FBI? last time, it nearly destroyed you.

will graham: last time, you nearly destroyed me.

dr. lecter: after everything that has happened, will, you still believe...

will graham: stop right there. you may have to pretend, but i don't.

dr. lecter: no, you don't. not with me.

will graham: i don't expect you to admit anything. you can't. but i prefer sins of omission to outright lies, dr. lecter. don't lie to me.

dr. lecter: will you return the courtesy?

  dear dad,

my whole life i’ve been told i was destined for greatness based solely on the virtue of my name. i was taught sacrifice was for the foolish. survival was all that mattered. but now i find myself at a crossroads and i must decide what i believe to be true. there is no such thing as destiny. legacies must be earned by the choices we make. i now know that we write our own endings. and we can either choose to hide as villains or live as heroes.
