Raunchy old cartoons about mermaids tend to be even crasser than raunchy old cartoons on other subjects.

You've probably seen the first image (from the Olympic village in Sochi), but if old postcards can be believed, the rural USA has its own tradition of gregarious defecation.  Why would hillbillies need an outhouse with more than one seat?  Maybe because outhouses were places  to smoke and read and daydream and otherwise slack off, not just to answer nature's call.  Or maybe because misery loves company.
