(THEY/THEM)
A long time ago, a single crow defeated a white serpent tyrant, who ruled over the land with a cold iron fang. Upon its defeat, the crow ascended, growing three heads, six-fingered hands and feet, and bearing a robe and three crowns, one above each head.
Now they rule the world, bringing life and joy.

Brandon Lee behind the scenes of the film: "The Crow" 1994
Sacred odors then were notably complex. As in the graves of would-be saints, the smell of sanctity often mingled with the stench of decay and death. Ancient cities, Thurkill wrote, were characterized by “the stench of human excrement, refuse and disease, accompanied with soothing floral scents and perfumes.” Sacred smells like frankincense and myrrh were used over the centuries to demarcate sacred space—but also to disinfect and disguise putrid areas. […]
This gave holy smells a fundamentally paradoxical nature. In a world where breathing foul-smelling air was seen as the cause of many diseases, incense was seen as a barrier against illness, and, with its holy associations, against demonic possession. But equally, powerful scents could be used to disguise a deeper decay, or to tempt the pious with worldly delights and bodies. Even bad smells had an ambiguous quality. After all, the rotting stench of a starved ascetic’s mouth was simply more proof of his profound holiness.
It’s this ambiguity about smell, […] that gives scent its power as a theological tool. In addition to its flexible moral significance, the experience of an odor often reflects our understanding of divinity. Like God, smell can surround you from an indeterminate source, filling spaces with its invisible presence. But unlike sound, which might do the same, to experience a smell it must first be taken within, in an act–breathing–that is both life-giving and volitional.

The right to wander in the UK is wonderful and very much the opposite of the US, where you’re terrified you’re going to be shot for turning around in someone’s yard. This combined with the nonchalant attitude towards ancient archeological sites is particularly amusing. There are several Neolithic tombs I want to visit that have warnings that are like “This site is behind a gate and can be accessed by walking through a field BUT USE CAUTION, A HIGHLY AGGRESSIVE BULL LIVES ON THE PROPERTY. I repeat, THIS 5,000 YEAR OLD TOMB IS GUARDED BY AN ANGRY BULL. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK.” It’s exactly what that little Neolithic community would have wanted…
“DO NOT go to this Neolithic chambered tomb. It is guarded by a highly aggressive horse.” “Like some sort of waterhorse or kelpie? Or the ghost of Llamrei?” “No. A very crabby 19 year old Welsh cob that likes to bite.”
I really like how you drive down a random road and look to the side and notice that a hill has specific carved ramparts on it, which mean that it's an ancient hill fort.
but it's also some farmer's field.
and it's only medium-to-low level interesting. I like that. a hillfort should be lowkey.

this was the image i was trying to send btw
My pareidolia is so strong I immediately saw a tall figure in a blue and white robe or gown BEFORE I scrolled to see that OP also had and drew it. Or are we not outliers and everybody else sees it.
At first glance I thought it was a sculpture. At second glance I thought it was a sculpture in a really weird place. I scrolled down and wondered why someone had drawn the sculpture of a figure as a figure, then I scrolled back up and realized 'debris'.
