There are so many well known DC women, what are y’all on about? Wonder Woman got hers, catwoman has hers, Harley and Poison are up and at em.

And the you got hawk girl, you got black canary, you got the huntress, the Oracle, the bat ladies, super girl, you got all kinds, you saw em in the justice league series. They pop up here and there and everywhere.

Where exactly is the lack?

They’re talking specifically about movies. About letting these female characters escape from the comic pages that no one reads too much anymore and have their own space in movies, one of the most lucrative mediums in media and entertainment. Of the characters you listed, about two of them have had their own focused live action DC theatrical release the way that Batman and Superman have had multiple times.

There’s a major difference between “popping up here and there” and then having several movies dedicated to focus on one character the way Batman and Superman have. We aren’t going to pretend that characters like Hawk Girl and Black Canary have taken as much space in the DC world as Batman and Superman. That’s the lack she’s talking about.

Every single one I named is either in a movie or series as a repeat, if not main, character. And that’s because Batman and Superman are more popular, not because they are male.

And no, and they never will, because those two are the face of the franchise and the most popular characters? Because they’re male? No. Because they’re one of the originals, and most popular at time of creation which managed to carry over.

I know they all appear in animated movies or in the backgrounds of other movies or for short animated series. But like I said, that is not the same as having several live action movies dedicated to focus on one specific character. Those are the movies that the actress above is talking about. Those female characters you listed do not take up as much space as Batman and Superman. The comic industry was started by men and marketed primarily towards men for multiple decades. This is an industry that predates the 1950s. They believed that male characters would do better and that’s why Batman and Superman have had such a long headstart in focus and popularity on these other characters. Batman and Superman are popular because DC puts so many resources and marketing behind them, because they believe male characters will perform the best and continued with this thinking for decades. Sexism in American comics is not some new unknown thing. It’s not random that Batman and Superman are the most successful.

All this actress is asking for is that female characters be given just as much of a chance as Batman and Superman have. It’s not like she said “abolish batman and superman let’s see ONLY female superheroes from now on”. She didn’t say anything wrong. She’s right. Hawk Girl, for example, is obscured compared to Batman and Superman and if DC put more resources behind that character she could become just as successful. I’ll gladly sit and wait for Wonder Woman to get several of her own focused live action movies because despite the fact that she’s just as old as Batman and Superman, her first big live action theatrical movie focused on her came out last year. edit: i’ll stress again that we’re talking about theatrical live action releases here. that’s what the woman in the gif is referring to, because she’s a actress and she was asked about a medium she would be apart of.

omg. no, like i specificed, this isn’t about the animated series or short ass tv shows. The live action theater movies are the medium that the woman in the gifs is talking about, because she’s an actress so the live action movies are a medium she’d be involved in. That’s the original topic. That’s why she’s talking about scenes and movies that she would like to do. That’s why I’m talking about the movies in particular. That medium is one of the most lucrative for DC as well as Marvel. These other characters you’re talking appear in tv series that are now over or basically unheard of, or have to share the spotlight with several other heroes and villains (that’s a good point about super girl though, even though she still has just a tv show right now I hope she’s getting her own modern and current theatrical release soon). That’s not the same as having multiple theatrical releases focused on one character. That’s not the same level of dedication. If Wonder Woman was being given just as much of a chance as Batman and Superman, her first focused live theatrical movie would have come out earlier than 2017 after BM and SM have already had several. Hawkgirl and Batgirl would have had at least ONE focused theatrical release by now. I’m not gonna pretend that DC stands behind them as strong as they do Batman and Superman.

Okay so live action movies only? Super specific ain’t it? Seeing as how live action super hero movies have only been around for 40 fuckin years, so not even an entire generation.

11 female superhero films are currently in the works, with nine more rumored!

DC only has 35 live action superhero movies out, out of those ALL OF THEM contain a main female character, and at least 10 have the female character as a lead or colead.
