very strong image in my mind of how when lawrence goes back to practicing medicine sometimes he’ll be in the middle of surgery with his hands inside someone all covered in their blood and when he blinks, instead of whatever nameless patient it is this time lying on the table, it’s adam. sometimes this is horrifying and upsetting. sometimes it’s deeply erotic and horny. sometimes it’s both. it depends

people are talking about how he lied to lawrence; that's a fair point, but I think the fact that he lied to Lawrence and he's an honest person are two things that can coexist, while being contradictory. it's his CHARACTER that's honest, like how he says in the movie. photography is the study of the truth. you take a photo, it's simply an image of events that have happened, that can't be changed. (of course, you can doctor the photos, but that's not what adam does, so I think its irrelevant). his character is a contradiction to jigsaws, a man who knows what he is, and honestly thinks less of himself as shown in the script when he tells lawrence he's nothing. John is a man who hides behind a persona, thinking he is a God. the fact that he lied to lawrence in the beginning of the movie doesn't change the fact that through parts of Adam's character and his themes, we can see that his story is one of change and honesty, and despite that being jigsaws whole ideology, it got him killed. him lying to a man he was stalking while he was kidnapped and confused, thinking he may be behind it all, doesn't chance that.
