The air inside the makeshift medical tent is ice-cold. Jaheira shivers, and then hisses with pain at the movement, fisting her fingers into the thin sheet draped over her cot.

“Aye, I know,” mumbles Reeda. The young halfling cleric has the tip of her tongue stuck out between her lips, her eyes narrowed with concentration as she delivers another healing spell into the wound in Jaheira’s gut. “If you’d all fallen back and come t’ me when the blow was first struck, this would be hells of a lot easier. Ma’am,” she adds as a distracted afterthought.

Jaheira grunts. “The battle needed finishing,” she mutters through gritted teeth. The attempt at bravado is a little undermined by the bloodloss slurring each word into the next. 

“Spoken like a Harper,” Reeda quips dryly, not looking up. “I know damn well there wasn’t even supposed t’ be a fight. Commander Vartan said--”

“Vartan did not know what we were facing.” Jaheira scowls, but she can’t maintain the expression for long. The tent lurches around her as her head sags back against the pillow.

i have so many khalid headcanons i don’t know which ones are the ones worth sharing!!! throwing some out like pocket sand:

-Raised in harem living quarters until his father lost it (along with khalid’s mother) gambling.

-Good favor with a Calimport brothel run by a courtesan that briefly shared quarters with Khalid and his mother. This courtesan is also his first connection to the Harpers, herself an informant. She often would task Khalid with stocking hidden staches around the city.

-First sword master was an alcoholic ex mercenary from the north(this is me seeding Khalid’s grand mastery proficiency in Longsword over the Amlakkar-Issued Scimitar 🤓). The deal was Khalid would trade booze for lessons. This was a gray area to wrestle with but the merc said let me go to hell the way I want to!!!

-Khalid’s presence within his father’s household was justified by the idea he was meant to serve the family for the generations his extended lifespan would allow. His father’s wife grew to not want him in the house at all.

-Khalid can hold his tongue but has rolled his eyes into a confrontation more than once

-His features are considered overwhelmingly mannish by elven standards. Not very demure… And by human standards his “elven beauty” is pretty underwhelming.

-In his earlier Harpering days Khalid had a brief and challenging stint as a nude model when his physique caught the eye of a prominent artist, who happened to be teaching figure drawing classes attended by a person of intrigue to the Harpers.

-Didnt start growing facial hair until after dating Jaheira (which spurred on jokes from other Harpers that oddly got under his skin at the time lol)
