Hand Painted Retouched Photograph Portrait Of Military Men In Uniform, CDV Vintage Albumen. A Photograph By Eurenius And Quist. Swedish Photographers Wilhelm Abraham Eurenius (1830-1892) And Peter Ludvig Quist (1833-1924) Founded The Photography Firm Eurenius & Quist In 1858 In Stockholm. Eurenius, Originally An Artist And Engraver, Had Taken Up Photography In The Mid-1850s And Then Caught The Attention Of Aspiring Photographer Quist, Who Had Moved To The Swedish Capital From Malmö In 1856. Their Partnership, One Of The First Professional Studios In Stockholm, Was First Located At Regeringsgatan 18 And Then From 1881 To 1892 At Hamngattan 18. In Its Heyday, Eurenius And Quist Was Also The Official Photographer To The Swedish Royal Family. Inked, Hand Colored.

Many Of His Cartes De Visite Had An Attractive Sketch On The Back - Three Cherubs, The Top One Holding A Large Old Camera. On The Back Of His Cartes De Visite Produced From His Studio At 16 North Pitt Street From 1875 To 1884, He Advertised: “Copies May Be Had At Any Time. The Negative From Which This Is Taken Is Specially Adapted For Producing An Enlarged Picture Of Any Size”. In The 1890s, He Advertised: “Black And White (Permanent Carbon) Prints And Solid Oil Colours At Prices Which Place Them Within The Reach Of The Masses.” The Edinburgh Trade Directories Recorded Wk Munro As Being Based At Only 16 Pitt Street From 1887 Onwards, But His Cartes De Visite Appear To Have Continued To Use The Address, 58 Pitt Street, For Many Years (Possibly Until 1907) Rather Than 16 Pitt Street. The Following May Be Helpful In Estimating The Approximate Dates Of Wk Munro's Cartes De Visite. These Were Numbered Consecutively. I Have Seen Cartes Numbered Up To About 78,500. Numbers 45,000-57,000 (And Possibly Some Either Side) Appear To Have Been Allocated When He Was Based At 16 North Pitt Street, Between 1875 And 1884.

Giorgio Sommer (2 September 1834 to 7 August 1914) Was One Of Europe's Most Important And Prolific Photographers Of The 19th Century. Active From 1857 To 1888, He Produced Thousands Of Images Of Archaeological Ruins, Landscapes, Art Objects, And Portraits. Georges Sommer Was Born In Frankfurt (Modern Day Germany), Where He Studied Business. He Opened His First Photography Studio In Switzerland, Where He Made Relief Images Of Mountains For The Swiss Government. In 1856, Sommer Moved His Business To Naples And In 1866 Formed A Partnership With Fellow German Photographer Edmondo Behles, Who Owned A Studio In Rome. Operating From Their Respective Naples And Rome Studios, Sommer And Behles Became One Of The Largest And Most Prolific Photography Concerns In Italy. Sommer Was Involved In Every Aspect Of The Photography Business. He Published His Own Images That He Sold In His Studios And To Customers Across Europe. In Later Years, He Photographed Custom Images For Book Illustrations, As Well As Printing His Own Albums And Postcards.
