Obverse With Bearded Head Of God Poseidon Facing Right. Reverse With Dolphin Leaping To The Right, With A Trident Below. Script In Greek With Lettering NY. According To Greek Mythology, The Island Of Nisyros Was Formed When God Poseidon Using His Trident, Cut Off A Part Of The Larger Island Of Kos And Threw It Onto The Giant Polybotes To Stop Him From Escaping During The Gigantomachy War. This Island Was Mentioned By The Poet Homer In The Iliad. Polybotes Was One Of The Giants, Offspring Of Gaia And The Blood Fell From The Castration Of Uranus By His Son Cronus. It Is Believed According To The 1st Century BC Geographer Strabo, That The Giant Is Buried Under Nisyros.
