As Ball puts it, “Season one, you get Langdon. Season two, you get Frank.”
I feel like Patrick is so used to joking about "He's Langdon. Just Langdon. No first name." that he kind of ignores his first name at this point. You can literally learn his first name in s1 if you want and if you're observant enough.
“All the bright lights and carpets and stuff can be a lot to navigate. And we’re in the middle of making a really good season of television right now, so that’s my main focus.”
1. He's an anxious person and I totally get that. Me too, Patrick, me too.
2. "A really good season", huh? I'm curious what kind of story they have for Frank in s3 for Patrick to be seemingly more excited than he was for S2.
“We shoot eight months out of the year, and then after we wrap, the show is coming out,” he says. “And so you never really clock out of The Pitt. It’s just this freight train that just keeps on going.”
I do hope they are getting some rest in the meanwhile. They're working their butts off.
"...not only has he had to confront his own shadow and confront the lies that he’s been telling himself, but also he’s been away. So he’s not sure of himself. He comes back very timid and very ashamed. He’s walking into a work environment full of a bunch of people who he’s lied to and disappointed and is trying to apologize to. And he realizes that his trusted mentor doesn’t want anything to do with him. He knows that it’s his job to repair that relationship, but Robby doesn’t want anything to do with it. That really puts him on his heels.

Robby knows that whether it’s by the book or not, this is what needs to happen. He comes at Langdon hard. He says, “Wake up! Doctor up!” It’s the tough love that Langdon needs. In the moment, it feels a bit like an attack. But it is the jolt that he needs to get out in front of his doubt, and he pulls it off.
I mean, after the shit that Robby does all day to Frank? That (and the "nice job" praise) are not that bad. (Although the expression he says it with? A scowl? Ugh. Frank deserves better.)
I’ll also never forget season one medical bootcamp. They brought in an actor for us to practice doing some procedures on. I remember being a little timid and saying to Noah, “Man, we really get up in people’s business.” This is an actor, and I’m up in his mouth and his groin. You get really personal really quick.
I love their friendship and the mentorship that is happening between Patrick and Noah. I love that we get to see the glimpses of it.
Robby and Langdon, I think these two guys understand each other. I think they see each other. And I think there’s a friendship there that extends beyond mentor-mentee.

Friendship that extends beyond the mentorship. <3 Honestly, in an interview after s1 Noah said that Patrick "had become a dear friend" & it warms my heart.
Noah and [executive producer] John [Wells] and Scott took a huge risk in hiring me. Langdon is an incredible part that they had incredibly big plans for, and they hired me with basically no experience. They took on the responsibility of training me and guiding me through this whole process.
I dare to hope that their "big plans" extend to s3, s4, and whatever it is until they feel like there's nothing to explore with Frank's character. He has to stay with Robby. They have to become best friends that communicate and feel intimate again. I don't need anything else.
Noah has been really amazing about that, both in terms of how to make television and also just navigating this new space where strangers on the internet know who you are. It’s an incredibly blessed moment that I’m in, but it’s also a lot. It’s a big change. Noah has really been there to offer guidance.
Again, as an anxious person, I get it. The internet had become sooo mean and so personal in the last 10-15 years. I'm so happy he has this kind of support, especially frol Noah that has been doing this for decades (and is very online while also having a good balance between being aware, being online and offline).
I think Langdon, over the course of the season, sees Robby not just as a mentor, but as a person who is also struggling. And he realizes that Robby is not just there for Langdon’s healing journey, but is on a journey of his own that has nothing to do with Langdon. He’s imperfect, and he never claimed to be perfect. I think if the audience is feeling some sort of way about Robby being imperfect, good. Great! That’s the story that we’re telling.
🙃🙃🙃 Just because he's on his own journey doesn't mean he gets to be a total dick about Frank. "And you're still riding me." Okay, fine, they better tell that story better than they did in s2.
But I really find the "he never claimed to be perfect" line extra interesting because it's literally Robby's pov. "I never claimed to be perfect" while Frank says about his perfection. I feel like the lines are blurring very much in what Patrick is saying as an actor and how he sees Frank through the actual script.
They really want Langdon and Mel to get together. They seem to really want Robby and Whitaker [Gerran Howell] to get together. They really want Robby and Abbot [Shawn Hatosy] to be a thing. And so that is great. That has nothing to do with me, but I’m glad everybody’s having a lot of fun.
Hey robbylangdons, we have to be louder. I mean, I think interviewers should stop bringing fandom to the actors, I'm sick of this, but I'm also sad that the ONE relationship that is canonically intended to have weight ("Tantric lovers") is not even remotely seen together/as important.
But yeah, Patrick is SO right about "that has nothing to do with me". Say it, dude. Unless they make Robby and Frank more of a canonical couple, yeah. Forever anti kingdon and anti hucklerobby. And pro platonic Robby and Jack, idc. The only ship I want canon is robbylangdon.
Also, hell, like 15 years ago a person that would bring so much shipping to actors would be shunned. Why are we asking actors about fandom activities? Why are we blurring this line? I hate it. And I hate how you have to agree to these new rules in order for them to have some kind of weight? How you also should start saying "Yeah, I want Frank and Robby to kiss" so it's even considered? Ugh. (At least Noah still ships Frank and Robby. At least he loves Frank's character that much. At least he appreciates Patrick.)
INT: Were you jealous that Langdon didn’t get to do karaoke?
Patrick: Not at all. Not at all. I hate karaoke. I hate singing. They definitely got the right people for the job, and I’m praying that they don’t ask me to do it.
✍️✍️✍️ I'm taking notes on what kind of activities Frank and Robby were and would be doing together.
Very few actors actually ever get to be a series regular and get the big paycheck. A vast majority of actors are living paycheck to paycheck, and have to do day jobs in between.
I'm thinking about Supriya and how Noah fired her. And how Supriya was the one that didn't believe that she had a good gig going on and that had to keep her teaching job until people started signing up to her classes just to see her. And now she will have to job hunt again. *deep sigh*
Hopefully [AI] will just get the film industry to relearn what makes film great—not bigger, flashier, badder, but truer and more honest and more human.
I’ve been promising my girlfriend a vacation. We haven’t gone on one the last two years. [...] She’s in Nova Scotia, shooting season two of We Were Liars. She gets a five-month vacation in Canada. So really, I want a vacation.
Reminds me of Noah telling an interviewer, "Are you kidding? I got 3 days off and then it's back to work." Yeah, like I said, they work they butts off.
