There is a little pain usually, but one time a nurse was using this cuff that would tighten automatically and it just kept getting tighter and tighter and she was getting snippy with me because my arm was tense. Lady, my arm is tense because it really really hurts

#for me it's usually enough pressure to be unpleasant but it doesn't cross the bar into painful #EXCEPT when I was waiting for surgery and the dreadful nurse who made so many mistakes I thought she was going to get me killed #cinched that bastard up tight and then left me on my own #after about half an hour my arm was NUMB AND COLD due to this so I took it off -- guess that triggered an alarm #bc a different nurse came in and scolded me but didn't make it as tight when she put it back on

Hey everyone, me again.

So that mod blew up. 1600+ downloads in about a week. I know many mods get far more, but stiiiill, it's exciting. Thank you for everyone who downloaded and shared feedback!

So here's a more-or-less finished version (might add more stuff if anything surfaces, or if anyone reports embarrassing bugs), properly uploaded on the Nexus. Source also included (not GitHub atm, meh, but you can download and see everything you need from the Nexus link).

Also...EA app support! Yaaay! Special thanks to riperviwe over on Discord for being a test subject and sending live logs to make it possible. Also everyone who tested over at the Creators' Cave Discord server!

Told my spouse this would come true the next time they work from home on a day I thought they were going into the office.

So I tried out Reddit for a while (even though I had it on good authority that it was a cesspit) because sometimes I feel weird about how much older I am than most people here and I thought maybe I could find some weird people my own age there ...

And I did, and some people there are cool, but good gods overall it is tedious to deal with. It's not universally a cesspit, although they are obsessed with toilet habits -- they have long arguments over bidets and at least once a week someone aggressively insists that "everyone pees in the shower so we should all just admit it." You also can't say anything obliquely because few there are capable of reading between the lines. The list goes on.

Anyway, I never fit in here but I super don't fit in there. I think I'll try to limit my use of it to seeking answers to specific questions -- that's where it tends to shine.

Plus I started playing LotR Online again recently and it's full of weird people my age (and even older!) so even though a game chat isn't really what I was looking for, I feel less lonely now.

i wish there was a way to say "you're right, but this is really ineffective and even counterproductive messaging to anyone who doesn't already agree with you" without sounding like an asshole

I wish I knew how to hold it together for funerals. It's embarrassing when I inevitably fall apart more than those who were closer to the deceased do.

My uncle's funeral was yesterday. And I did like him very much -- I would go so far as to say he was my favorite uncle -- but I've never lived near my extended family, so I at most saw them for about a week per year. I know my relatives well enough to have a nice visit with them, but not enough to describe myself as "close" with any of them.

But there I was, running out of tissues and struggling to keep my snot in check and being unable to speak; meanwhile while my uncle's mother, wife, children, and even his grandchildren (ages 16 and younger), who loved him dearly and were with him on a daily, weekly, or at least monthly basis, all managed to keep their tears in check enough to talk to people.

I've always been like this. Even at the funeral of a co-worker I was pretty neutral about. It was a pretty tragic situation that time: my co-worker had a brain tumor and the day they buried him would have been his 36th birthday and I just felt so awful for his two little kids -- who were also holding it together better than I was.

Services don't make me feel better. I do my best to tune them out, and only go at all to show my support to those who were closer. Though how much support I am when I'm a slobbering mess is dubious. Most of all I really hate to think anyone assumes I'm trying to draw attention to myself.

Anyway I need to figure this out because my parents and my in-laws are getting up there, and if anyone expects me to be able to greet a line of visitors when any of them goes, they may be pretty disappointed.

Suppose I might have fit in better in one of the cultures where they want more expressiveness at funerals. In ancient Egypt they used to hire extra mourners, and the more you could wail, the better.

When I was a kid and heard "you know what they say" or "that's what they don't tell you" or any other way of expressing societal conventions (and such) through the mention of "they," I would envision this mysterious organization of people in gray jumpsuits with "THEY" in giant white letters on the back who enforced these norms.

anyway you should always remember that all those foreigners you see dying on the news are just as real people as you are who have just as much interiority as you do. there is nothing about you that makes you more important and it is by pure chance that you are not in their position. in fact, this holds for all of history. every person, no matter the horror of the fate that befell them, had just as much interiority as you do. i feel like some people haven't fully internalized this.

Hey, wanna make music? Yeah? Got a buncha money? No? Well that's perfectly fine, check this free stuff out:

Vital - A powerful wavetable synth, my personal favorite VST synth, very easy to figure out creating new synth sounds, with the help of the plenty of tutorials that are out there for the plug-in. (There are paid versions but they are completely unnecessary to get 99% of the features of the plug-in.)

Synth1 - A classic piece of synthesizer software.

Pendulate - An interesting, chaotic synth that you can make weird little sounds with.

Native Instruments' free plug-ins - Various cool VSTs, including the Komplete Start pack.

The Free Orchestra - A set of orchestral instruments for Kontakt Player (see previous link).

BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover - More orchestral stuff! This one has its own player so you don't have to download a separate VST to use it if you don't want to.

Magical 8bit Plug - A chiptune plug-in, intended for producing sounds like that of 8-bit systems like the NES and Master System.

Genny - A synth VST made to emulate the soundchip of the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive.

MT Power Drum Kit - A nice rock n' roll style drum kit plug-in.

This guy's weird VST collection - 6.4 gigabytes of weird VSTs, including some you might know, like Delay Lama and MeowSynth!

sforzando - A free player for soundfont files.

Musical Artifacts - A resource I mainly use to find soundfonts, on which you can find other various things as well.

Kilohearts Essentials - 30 effect VSTs including reverb, delay, compression, pitch shifting, transient shaping, ring modulation, phase distortion, and more.

Xfer's freeware VSTs - Exactly what it says on the tin, including the one and only OTT compressor.

Illformed - The good ol' dblue Glitch 1.3, Crusher, Stretch, and TapeStop.

Hysteresis and Fracture - Two interesting glitch effects, one being a delay and the other being a buffer.

Codec - A cool digital audio degradation effect.

Le Phonk - A slick distortion plug-in.

MAIM - An effect that mimics the sound of MP3 compression.

Soundly Shape it and Place it - One is simply an equalizer VST, the other is an effect that emulates a speaker (ex: a radio) and a space (ex: a cave).

Fresh Air - An effect that adds high end information to your sounds, to provide brightness.

ValhallaSupermassive - A combo reverb and delay plug-in that sounds quite big.

UnplugRed - A collection of various interesting VSTs, most of which have free versions.

Chowdhury DSP - I can't personally speak for all of these but their tape model effect is great for some lo-fi style effects.

TAL-Chorus-LX - A thick sounding chorus, good for "retro" sounds too.

Polyverse Wider - A great effect for widening sounds up, really simple too with only two controls.

Freesound - A good audio file resource, mainly for foley recordings.

Cymbatics Dubstep Starter Pack - A little sample pack with some good drum and synth samples.

fishmonger drum kit - A pack of samples from the album 'fishmonger' by Underscores!

WangleLine's sample packs - Free samples put out by my awesome mutual WangleLine!

aaand I might as well include this set of drums I made awhile back :P

As for DAWs, it's been a long while since I've used anything other than FL Studio (not counting Audacity, which I still occasionally use for specific purposes), which, while being the only one I can directly recommend, is paid. However, I've heard good things about Reaper which has a "free trial" that you can technically use forever, akin to WinRAR. Additionally, I've also heard some good things about Waveform Free.

MORE because there are some additional little things I forgot about:

Geonkick - A drum synthesis VST, especially simple to get kicks going, but capable of producing a multitude of sounds.

plugdata - A visual programming environment for plug-in projects, that people produce their own plug-ins for, such as infamous plug-in the gusher.

SoundThread (info in description) - A really cool node-based audio editing interface based on the Composers Desktop Project, great for sound design, although it currently only supports .wav files.

OpenUtau - An open source software for UTAU voicebanks like Kasane Teto, much easier to work with imo than the original UTAU software for a beginner to vocal synths like UTAU and Vocaloid.

Famitracker - More NES style chiptune stuff, this one's a classic standalone tracker program.

Furnace - Another tracker I've heard fantastic things about from chiptune artists, more fully featured and capable of producing a wider variety of sounds.

Well, you did it, Tumblr. You've boy-who-cried-wolf'd so many pictures of ordinary objects, landscapes, animals, and fully-clothed everyday portraits of people who mysteriously coincidentally all happen to be trans I'm sure there's no bigoted intent behind that that I've learned to think nothing of ignoring your "potentially mature content" label, and now hey! I'm actually now starting to see pictures that really shouldn't have been opened in mixed company! Great job!

the patriarchy does not love people who are men. it coerces them into constructed desires (for power, for control, for wealth, for punishment) and rewards them for willingness to be coerced. but to be A Man, in the patriarchy's eyes, is not to be a person; to be powerful is to be a person.

this is why bell hooks says to create loving men we (as in, people committed to anti-patriarchal revolution) must love (care for on a political-social level) men whether they are performing or not. it exposes the lie of the patriarchy and exposes that there are other desires (for connection, for emotion, for liberty, for hope, for peace, for personhood) that have been silenced and restrained and there is real pain that comes from coercion.

bell hooks was not being idealistic when she explained that the revolution against patriarchy must start from love. not just the emotion or our individual relationships, but with a deep sense of shared personhood and innate care and compassion towards others, that guides us to political-social revolution, that makes an alternative world possible through the force of sheer refusal to submit to the cruelty the current system runs on.
