Ten minutes ago, Isabel had asked for another round of Riders and Seekers. Valentina had considered declining.
Isabel had looked at Valentina with her stupid shiny eyes and her stupid crinkled nose and her stupid encouraging everything and asked again. Valentina had considered accepting.
Well, Present Valentina wishes Ten Minutes Ago Valentina had considered tying every one of her suitcases to her golden boot buckles and throwing herself into Starglow Lake, because she’s already told this nosy little lightning bolt—and Isabel, who she’s pretty sure only serenades the flame piece so Valentina doesn’t have any excuse not to do this part—her middle name, and her other middle name, and her Chinese name, and the name of her childhood Bichon Frise (“Did Ava come up with that one?”), not to mention enough Furi family reunion incidents to tarnish their name forever.
There is one secret she hasn’t told anyone. The name of the person she likes.
“C’mon, dude, the clock’s tickin’ all the way down,” Isabel says, pointing at the lightning bolt as it swoops to and fro, goading and gloating. “We’re not gonna win if you don’t spill something.”
Valentina sighs. She’s a good actress—or Sophia’s secretly into getting knocked off cliffs and plays along accordingly; Val likes the version of their story where she’s a future EGOT more—but, well, she can’t keep this charade up forever. “I like Isabel.”
She closes her eyes, and stretches a hand out for the bolt to soar down into…
…only to find it still above them.
Valentina tries (and fails) to keep her voice from shaking. “Why didn’t it work?”
Her friend, ever encouraging, bursts into laughter, burying her face in her hands. Ugh, Valentina can’t tell if this is better or worse than the reaction she expected.
Isabel resurfaces, a unicorn-poop-eating grin spreading across her face. Definitely worse. “‘Cause it’s not a secret.”
Valentina breathes in and out, and in and out, and what in the world is breathing? She needs answers, she needs them now. If Layla Fletcher had busted her out of the closet while rearranging her leather jackets— “How long have you known?”
“Those are literally different things.” She jabs Isabel in the chest. River snorts at her, almost in warning. What’s he going to do? Drown her? As if that hadn’t been Present Valentina’s first plan. “You are such a jerk.”
“A jerk who’s going to win.” Isabel says, blank and calm and the scariest she’s ever been. Then, she turns to the lightning bolt. “I like Valentina back.”
Wow. Maybe not drowning had been a good idea.
(It doesn’t occur to Valentina until later, as they scale a whole shelf’s worth of library books suspended in mid-air, to fact check Isabel: “We’re playing Riders and Seekers, you jerk, we’re both gonna win!”)
(Much later, when Isabel insists on receiving a kiss for ‘her’ well-earned victory, Valentina very much feels as though they both won here.)

Valentina would probably already have a bias against Ravenzella if we assume that Mona besides telling stories about her time at the academy also gossiped about her coworkers to her grandchildren
I don't think Valentina's the kind to disrespect teachers but it's funny to imagine her and Ravenzella get nowhere during lesson because they're just exchanging snarky comments the entire time lol

I wanted to draw more of my teacher Ravenzella AU and also just kinda wiggle out of my comfort zone for a change, I almost never draw comics so if this looks odd then that's why lol
The idea I have for Jun's and Shuimu's rework is that Shuimu's appearance is very similar to an eel(at least for dragon standards) which caused them to be ostracized by others. Jun understands what it's like to be excluded by your peers and not be taken seriously, so when she sees Shuimu for the first time she sympathizes with the dragon, seeing herself in them. And it's what allows them to bond, they're kindred spirits who know what it's like to feel left out and alone.
Concerning Shuimu's water blast I originally stated that they can shoot boiling water like the scauldron but that's kinda boring. They can still blast boiling water, but I'm thinking they also have firebreath, which boils the water in the first place and helps produce the steam breath attack by boiling the water until it's steam. They can also use the firebreath independently but it's not as strong as the water blast.

Stupid AU where Ravenzella is a teacher at the academy cuz it'd be funny but also cuz the academy is severely understaffed wdym you only have 5 teachers + a healer that shows up sometimes
Her power of absorption or replicating other unicorns' magic was kinda hard to give a physical representation, which is why I settled on her weird cape and stripes at first, but I decided to take a crack at it again and boom I think it looks pretty nice now
My two cents on her is that she's obviously grimorian, probably the same species as Ravenzella, but her smaller ears make me think that maybe she's only part grimorian👀👀👀
Darksome and Olivia first meet when her and Tom are exploring the Hidden World where they end up getting separated. While trying to find eachother Olivia runs into the dragon and has a surpisingly positive encounter with her, after which they end up semi-bonding. After a while, Tom reunites with Olivia and they decide to head back home. Darksome ends up following them back to the surface due to not wanting to return to her solitude and being intrigued by Tom's and Ampere's(Thunder's) dynamic. When she's discovered the next day she's just being a general nuisance, terrifying workers and causing messes. Tom looks at the situation, turns to Olivia and tells her she has to train the dragon. And while she wasn't confident at first she finally gives in and trains Darksome. After that Darksome just hangs around the grounds harassing the sheep, invading personal space and occasionally rummaging through the trash,
I don't think Olivia would fly around much,probably only when it's REALLY necessary, other times she just lets Darksome exist around her or teaches her silly tricks

how does your nine realms rework's story differ from the mess that is canon?
The biggest change is that the whole Night Light species no longer exists, because their existence doesn't make sense. I sound like a broken record but the only way for them to exist is if they were INCREDIBLY inbred. And even if they were, the entire species would go extinct anyway due to low genetic diversity
Now, I actually kinda like the original concept of TNR, it's just REALLY lazily put together. I had this idea that project ICARIS was instead stationed on the island where New Berk was, where it used to be an archeology site but because they found some strange materials(gronckle iron, dragon scales mayhaps) they call a scientific research team there and canon happens, but I'm not really sold on that yet
Another thing I changed is that Olivia has her own dragon. This idea was mostly self-indulgent but I feel like it could've helped Olivia see what Tom sees and understand his decisions better, it could also be a parallel to when Hiccup helped Stoick train Thornado. And maybe it could have helped the other scientists there accept dragons if they saw that the lead geologist trusts them
Something that also bothers me is the whole Jörmungandr deal. Maybe it's just me but I think it should've been Buzzsaw who caused the release of Jörmungandr instead of the Skytorcher.
I need to skim through the series again(and finish my s8 rewatch, I have a lot of opinions abt Sledkin) to make a more coherent post. There are many other plot points I'd love to change but, again, I have to skim the series for that cuz I cannot remember anything💔

I js decided that the Solaira-Zephyra conflict and founding of the academy happened like 300 years ago or smth cuz I think it makes sense that the academy's really old, considering how big and how many hidden or secret rooms there are
