No individual should be harassed, threatened or harmed in anyway because of their sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. I make this statement because of a looming cloud of trouble producing a storm with non-conducive reasoning that washes out empathy and saturates prejudice.
The reason is that violence as well as discrimination has increased towards people like you and I who choose to love someone of the same gender and/or express themselves differently. There’s always the opposition muttering useless grievance such as “they shouldn’t shove it in our faces.” This doesn’t make sense since the media is flooded with accounts of discrimination from businesses, organizations, violence/murders in regard to men whom choose to form a union with someone of his gender or a transgender woman who is harmed because she is transgender. These atrocities are not noble and unacceptable. There is no crime in being ‘open’ and being a productive member of society.
Worse is the epidemic of homelessness among young men and women who are honest with their parents about who they are what they feel. This is an opportunity for parents/guardians to display even more strength, endurance and God’s unconditional love. We can all be rays of hope in this battle.
