Reblog if you write fic and people can inbox you random-ass questions about your stories, itemized number lists be damned.
tagged by @tedwinisconfused, thanksssssss i love talking about books!
LAST BOOK I READ: The Brides by Charlotte Cross. It was a completely disappointing Victorian gothic that was supposed to be a sapphic prequel to Dracula but left me profoundly bored.
A BOOK I'D RECOMMEND: A Gracious Plenty by Sheri Reynolds. it's an odd little gem about a woman badly burned in an accident as a child who can see ghosts. i love a weird book and something a bit outside the box, and i think the way she writes the connection between life and death is perfect - not too sentimental, or cliche, but really lovely.
A BOOK I COULDN'T PUT DOWN: The Reformatory by Tananarive Due. there are some stories that stick with you forever and i know this will be one of them.
A BOOK I'VE READ TWICE OR MORE: The Wonder by Emma Donaghue. i have my gripes with donaghue's works but i really love how she wrote this one. found family never fails to get me and i'll always love irish famine stories.
BOOKS ON MY TBR: i have so many on my shelves and my bedroom floor. i want to get round to The Five by Hallie Rubenhold soon, especially since I borrowed it. more on the list would be The Great Hunt (if I ever get around to finishing it...) and Rottenheart by Kat Dunn, which is a top priority.
A BOOK I'VE PUT DOWN: i do this all the time but recently, it was Bloom by Delilah S. Dawson. i found it irritating, dull and badly written.
A BOOK ON MY WISHLIST: Murder at the Spirit Lounge, by Jess Kidd. i always enjoy her books, they're wonderfully humourous, and this will be the second in her detective series. i'm mad to read it.
FAVOURITE BOOK FROM CHILDHOOD: i loved a lot of series, but if i was to narrow it to one single book i'm going to say Midnight by Jacqueline Wilson. i loved a lot of her books but that one fascinated me and i owned it so reread it a lot.
A BOOK I'D GIVE TO A FRIEND: depends on the friend, but generally maybe a Discworld book because it's my favourit series i'm always trying to indoctrinate people into, or maybe Victorian Psycho, because I love the insanity of it.
BOOK OF POETRY OR LYRIC THAT I OWN: i am not much of a poetry person but i have a collection of Eavan Boland and a couple of Emily Dickinsons.
WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING: i am always reading at least 3 books at once because i am a psychopath. right now i'm about to start The Children by Melissa Albert, I'm a bit into Mrs March by Virginia Feito, and I also have Brigid by Kim Curran untouched for the past couple of months because it was boring me, but might get back to it.
WHAT I'M PLANNING ON READING NEXT: could be anything, but probably Rottenheart or Murder at the Spirit Lounge, whenever i can get my hands on them. i also want to give Yesteryear a go.
no pressure tags: @vhskit @horseproductions @the-oracle-of-the-lost
im realizing very fast that people do not in fact know that sometimes things in stories suck on purpose and it sucking is the point
"this story is misogynistic!!"
>looks inside
>about the pressures of societal misogyny and how its bad

My deepest darkest fantasy is that I collapse on the street and I am rushed to the hospital. They perform a bunch of tests and find out I am severely deficient in some kind of vitamin. Then I start taking the vitamin and I become the happiest cleverest person alive because all my problems were caused by this one deficiency
Moreover, everyone gathers around to be tremulously compassionate and discreetly admiring: all this time, you lacked the Vitamin? And yet you persevered?
genuinely sickening to think about how men pop up out of holes in the ground and you have to swing a mallet and hit them over the head to get them to stop
