sorry to be on reddit but the answers on this are insane because everyone is saying 16m should get his own room and then one room for the boys and one for the girls. how is a 14 yo and 8 yo sharing a room any more sensible than an 8 yo and 5 yo sharing a room.... privacy is important blablabla but the idea that there needs to such strict gender stratification is crazy omg 14 and 8 vs 8 and 5?? just because 5 is female?? crazy
also 11 and 5 crazy insane... imagine being 11 and there's a 5 year old in your room when it's not necessary. how are you meant to stay up and read fanfiction if you're sharing with a 5 year old whose bedtime is 7 PM or whatever

i deserve financial compensation from the bad wuthering heights takes i had to read yesterday... gather round, it's time for the smug nuanced thinkers to explain 19th century racism to us!
no, i dont think he could be white irish, and i suspect people who say he could be are working from a half-remembered memory of the book and general assumptions about racism in england at the time, or missed a lot of incredibly unsubtle comments. heathcliff is not just described as vaguely darker in skin, there's some very charged comments made about him that i never see people bring up when they say his race doesn't matter
& i really cant believe there's people out there who think "no, heathcliff doesn't experience racism, he experiences classism" is anything but embarrassingly dismissive ; it's literally like when men say a poor woman's experiences are only due to class and poverty, and not misogyny. as if these could ever be neatly separated like that. classism and racism, two famously completely unrelated issues
anyway. im just saying that because i need to tell you. many people who post about wuthering heights dont have the first clue what they're talking about. read the book, look things up, make up your own mind
i think it's also wrong to assume that because emily brontΓ« was a white woman who never left the north of england, she couldn't have encountered people who weren't white and couldn't have thought of racism at all, much less as a bad thing. she was able to think about class, social mobility, women's rights, but racism is just too improbable? racism and the abolition of slavery was a major topic in the late 18th century and early 19th. like just the most famous examples :
i think people also tend to vastly underestimate the diversity in 18th/19th century europe, especially in big empires, especially in port cities. heathcliff is found specifically in liverpool, which was, at the time, the largest city for slave trade in england. i dont think it's completely absurd to imagine that emily brontΓ« would have been aware of that
we need to put women like this in prison
do you have a sense of identity/self? no nuance

do you ever experience 'collective effervescence' (the intense energy, shared joy, and deep sense of unity people feel when gathering for group rituals, concerts, or sports events, making individuals feel connected to something larger than themselves)
