I read this one the day it got posted and it has remained one of the most succinct and well written fics ive ever read. 25k words of almost as good as the novelas writing and story.

my favorite au in the whole fandom. Mb becomes a pirate precanon and then goes around saving and befriending some humans it comes across after they were kidnapped and scattered across the CR after a ill-fated planet survey.

Murderbot runs into someone who used to work for the Company while being surrounded by a smattering of it and ART's humans.

has my personal favorite headcanon in it i think naming yourself Murderbot was very cool and awesome of it.

very well constructed construct ocs. Lab hell lots of angst but also catharsis and healing.

this one really gets you because it starts out making you think its just a silly ART and MB get into situations that help them understand eachother and stuff then in knocks you out with like mind bending levels of character writing and world building and corporate espionage and introspection on what it means to be a construct and how murderbot would feel meeting constructs very much like itself along with ones who are very different.

Murderbot gets confronted with its discomfort around comfortunits until enough security events happen that force it to talk about its feelings.

well first off they're basically canon so jot that down. I am honestly not a very daring shipper and stick very close to canon in most cases, so I'm just picking up what martha wells is putting down. in platform decay its straight up canon that mensah and art share custody (god to be a fly on the wall for that conversation. mb please let me hear just one conversation between them PLEASE). they are the two most influential figures in its life, why would I side with only one ship when having both is clearly healthiest for it?

mensah and art also represent the two sides of mb, organic and inorganic. it has struggled to be accepted as being both its entire life, its p fitting that it has someone very human and someone very mechanical that both love it in its entirety. the three of them are a balanced venn diagram, having all three together means it gets the support it needs from all sides.

and mensah and art both come from very loving backgrounds, both with families they care deeply about and that care about them in return. mb had no one for nearly all of its runtime, for decades it was only itself and the company. with mensah and art there is no hangup that they only want it for its function, much as it may try to convince itself otherwise. they love it unconditionally, the way it needs

and more importantly they both let it leave them. they don't force it to stay, they understand its on a difficult path and needs to find itself. there's a reason @securityunit-ese suggested 'if you love it let it go' when we were searching for a name for this ship. it needed to leave mensah to find itself and it couldn't have stayed with art at the end of artificial condition. they both leave the door open for it to return to them and now its at a point where it chooses to do that, and I think mensah and art are just happy to know it isn't alone anymore between the two of them

good god I would kill for more canon mensah and art interaction, I would do anything. they're both very similar characters, strong smart leader types that have both been damsels in distress for mb to save (not to mention both intrepid galactic explorers). and they both have very dry senses of humor, mensah to shield her actual emotions from the people she works with and art to hide its true intelligence. I feel like people miss that part about mensah, that she understands and enjoys mb's humor and matches its deadpan humor with an equally straight face. I mean come on she's the first one it ever said a joke to 😭 listen if I'm going to like a ship they have to be able to make jokes, and these three can easily work off each other. and mensah and art especially could work in tandem to mb's detriment (read: benefit but it doesn't want to admit that), I can absolutely see them gushing about how much they both love it and joking about its antics and mb is just sitting there like this is too much love I can't fucking handle this right now

ok going into headcanon territory I think she would love art for the same reasons. she's the only one we've seen it intimidated by, seeing how frantic it was cleaning for her visit, and it probably was very amenable when she came on board. but art is still art, its always going to be a silly little asshole, and I can absolutely see her matching its energy and having whip-smart comebacks to its snarky comments. THAT would make it respect her even more. art for sure has a jealousy streak (re: holism offering to teach mb and art not fucking having it) but I think it has always been the #1 mensahbotter even when no one else was, encouraging mb to 'find its crew (and especially mensah)' and welcoming her aboard lavishly after a whole novel of being such a bitch to everyone. I've seen some people say art would be jealous of mensah but I have the citations to prove otherwise. because murderbot thinks the world of mensah, art is also in awe of her. because murderbot chose art as its first active decision, mensah can trust art to take good care of it. they both know they're important to mb and it needs them both to function, they're both very grateful that if one of them can't be there for it then the other can be.

I think it just feels so natural to have the three of them together. I like mensahbot and murderhelion separately ofc, but it always feels like somethings missing when its only two and it feels complete when all three are there. it just makes sense. murderbot is deeply traumatized, it needs an army to heal it. it had no one and now it has so many people who care about it. so why would I reduce myself to just one ship when it clearly needs both mensah and art to be its full self? why would I have to choose in a world of canon polyamory and secret third things? mb has two hands and these two are the ones its willing to hold onto the most. ot3 of all time.

(To my dismay, the things that upset me in episode 8 weren't resolved by the conclusion of the season! Fingers crossed for season 2. I still don't watch that part of episode 8, it's distressing.)

My latest one brings it full circle as it's also a fix-it for the TV show about some things that upset me. I had hoped to post it on the anniversary but tbh I've been really overwhelmed by everything so it's not done yet. I'm working slowly on it right now.

(Also an unresolved topic and crossing fingers for season 2 address that. I want them to be friends.)

I now have 60 fanfics on AO3 and working on even more on the side.

22 fics are book-only, 18 fics are TV-only and 18 fics are blended book-TV (usually leaning one way or the other), 1 fic is a crossover to another fandom and 1 (!) is a completely different fandom and I think it got a pretty good reception ☺️

I have written for three fandoms: Murderbot TV, The Murderbot Diaries books and the Aliens franchise. There are two fics for that last one, the crossover with Murderbot and then that stand alone sci-fi gift exchange cause it seemed fun. (It was.)

I mostly write gen (22) and then I'm evenly split between all the other ratings. Most of my fics (31) don't have any warning to apply, followed by Choose Not To Warns. 10 fics are "anonymous" but not really ☺️

After Murderbot, I write about Mensah the most which I'm sure surprises nobody. After Mensah it is the Pres Aux Survey Team, then Ratthi, then ART, then Leebeebee.

My relationships follow that same order of characters & Murderbot. Except for the Leebeebee which is / followed by Mensahbot, Mensahbotcule and the Mensahcule. Dr Ratthi/Murderbot has also managed to slip in there.

(Personally I find Murderbot the most fun to write, then Mensah and then Ratthi) (Arada was the hardest to work out but very satisfying when I did. I would like to write more scenes with her and Murderbot.)

Not many other fix-its, there's some break-its, a lot of missing scenes and speculations. A couple of "what if" AUs and long fics.

I've tried to dabble in a little bit of everything, from CSS interactive fics to drabbles to 5+1s and multi-chapter multi-series epics. I currently have three active WIPs that I'm taking way too long to update due to fandom events I've signed up to.

My additional tags are dominated by hurt/comfort, fluff and objectification. My most used Murderbot-specific tag is Touch-Averse Murderbot

I have posted 273,840 words which have given me 53,081 views which is a lot of people! 112 people have even subscribed to me to see any fic I write, which is cool since I'm experimenting and writing so many different things and styles. I have another 60k of words across multiple projects not yet posted.

I have received 8,995 kudos and 1,461 comment threads (which are my favourite things because I can talk to ppl about my ideas.) There are 1,634 bookmarks across all my fics. I had add-ons that hide the stats from me so this is all a very pleasant surprise.

I have received an amazing 14 gift fics, 3 fanarts (+another 3 not posted), I have inspired one fic with my own works and I have also been gifted an amazing podfic of one of my fics.

I have participated (so far) in three AO3 events! They're really cool. I've also taken part in assorted discord events. I'm currently signed up to the Big Bang three times (author and 2artist) and to the zine. I am going to try and run my first event in September.

I've done two collabs and I'm working on a third.

Somehow, my third ever fanfic is one of the top 20 fanfics for MBTV.

Two more of my fanfics are in the top 40 MBTV, which includes my horrible LBB AU which just blows my mind. I think it might be the only fic in the top 40 that is MBTV-only? That's neat. I had a lot of fun writing that and reading everyone's horrified reactions.

I enjoy the creative process and trying different writing styles. Since my job involves writing a lot of non-fiction with strict and formalised writing, it's nice to just cut loose and break rules.

It is interesting to me that I enjoy writing things I wouldn't usually read, I think because I get control over the story so there's no real surprises? But seeing readers squirm in the comments/bookmarks is fun as fuck. I like layering the story.

I've enjoyed writing for more niche characters, niche settings or niche interpretations of characters. I especially enjoy when I get readers commenting that I am filling in a niche that they've been craving or that they liked reading a different take on someone. That just feels nice to meet a need and to not be alone.

I can't pick my favourite type of comments/bookmarks, I love all of them from the simplest emoji reactions to the borderline essays. One of the funniest comments I got was someone who read one of my darker fics without reading the warnings. They still enjoyed it but were disturbed. I also got like 50 eye emojis once and that had me laughing in public. Also so many breakdowns and people pointing out details they've noticed or sharing theories. Then those who join my discord project threads to offer up suggestions.

Not sure how long I'll keep this up. Motivation is certainly starting to decrease, but I'll keep picking away at them for now as they are quite fun and it helps keep my mind off other things.

1. Internet Archive. Has plenty of videos to watch, plenty of games you can play that are emulated right on the website. You can also find entire collections of roms. For emulators, check out Emulation General Wiki to find the best emulator for the system you want to emulate.

2. r/piracy has a wiki full of safe places to read comics and manga, to watch anime and cartoons, and to watch movies.

3. Virtualbox, you can set up a Windows XP virtual box and get old PC games from Internet Archive. You can also check out CD Game World if you need a no-cd patch.

4. Saltybet. A Livestream of MUGEN with thousands of characters fighting against each other, sometimes things get hilarious. Runs 24/7.

5. The Cutting Room Floor, spend hours reading up on cut content from your favorite games.

6. Lost Media Wiki, read up on lost movie, books, animation, video games, etc.

7. Neocities, learn coding and make your own website!

8. WebDSR, explore shortband radio

9. Radio Garden, listen to radio stations from around the world

10. Every Noise At Once, explore the widest archive of music genres, with samples and Spotify playlists

So some of the finest minds currently alive decided to take incredibly expensive important scientific equipment and mess with it until they worked out how to move in just the right way to sing Happy Birthday, then someone made a cake on Curiosity’s birthday and took it into Mission control so that a room full of brilliant scientists and engineers could throw a birthday party for a non-autonomous robot 225 million kilometres away and listen to it sing the first ever song sung on Mars*, which was Happy Birthday.

This isn’t a sad story, this a happy story about the ridiculousness of humans and the way we love things. We built a little robot and called it Curiosity and flung it into the star to go and explore places we can’t get to because it’s name is in our nature and then just because we could, we taught it how to sing.

That’s not sad, that’s awesome.
