Fic under the cut :)
"C'mon little one. Gimme something. Anything." Clark looked upon your little form on your tummy time mat, he lying across from you on his own tummy. This was his challenge of the ages. This was you simply minding your own business. Something that Clark isn't well-versed in.
Obviously.
Baby space had taken a firm hold on you that day, which meant lots of napping and bottles and... yeah that's pretty much it.
And of course, Clark and Lois being the best caregivers around were there to love and take care of you no matter the headspace.
But it became quite clear as the day went on that Clark found baby space time with you a lot less... mentally stimulating... than kiddo space time with you.
"Lois... are you sure they're okay? I mean, they haven't said a single word in hours!" Clark called out to his partner, who was busy making your lunchtime bottle in the kitchen.
Clark reached out, softly poking your cheek to see if that would elicit any reaction from you, but ended up getting a blank, albeit very cute, stare back.
"Babies usually don't talk Clark," Lois replied simply, testing the temperature of your milk briefly on her wrist and walking back to the living room once satisfied with it, plopping down next to Clark. "Because they're babies."
Lois made some very inviting cooing noises, wiggling your bottle in front of you, which urged you to crawl over from your comfy spot on the floor to the even comfier spot on your mama's lap.
"I know but..." Clark sat up, scooting closer to Lois as he tried to find the words.
"But what?" Lois asked, placing the bottle into your mouth and letting you drink to your heart's content.
"Don't they seem bored to you?" Clark finished, his eyebrows scrunching up. Lois let out a small chuckle, looking down at you, a fondness like no other twinkling in her eyes.
"They look pretty content to me. I think you're the one who's bored here, Clark." Lois' lip quirked into a soft smirk before she focused back on you, helping the bottle ease out of your mouth for a bit so you could take a breath.
"No, no, it's just- well, just nothing. Yeah, I guess you're right." Clark admitted with a soft sigh. "But wouldn't it be a bit more fun for everyone involved if we played a game or something?"
Lois shrugged, continuing to feed you your bottle, which was her main priority opposed to entertaining Clark. Sorry Supes.
"I guess you can try after they're done with their lunch." Lois suggested. Clark nodded, and fell quiet, now a man on a mission to have you get some playtime in. He went off to prepare while Lois remained where she was, enjoying the still calmness and your happy little gulps.
Clark returned shortly after his departure with some of your favorite toys he found scattered about the house in tow. He could have sworn he had asked you to pick them up the day prior. But that's a story for another time, yes? He sat back down, keeping himself patient as you were fed and burped.
"Welp. There you go." Lois said as she plopped you down on the floor before Clark, with some difficulty as your little hands seemed desperate to hold onto the front of her shirt. "Go crazy."
Clark immediately started to go crazy, but not really as that's just an expression, what he literally did was hold out your favorite stuffed animal first, just to see how you would react.
"C'mon baby, c'mon. Come and get your toy! C'mon, come see it!" Clark smiled as big as he could, rubbing the soft fuzz of the toy against your cheek. You just yawned and stared blankly at him, well, more so through him, actually.
"No? Nothin? Is Daddy really that much of a snooze-fest?" Clark gave you a jokingly stern look that would have usually gotten a few giggles out of you, but today was not his day, as a matter of fact, you busied yourself crawling away from him!
You were actually a baby on a mission to get some mama time in, so off you went! But there were obstacles in the way, like the big bored alien mountain that spontaneously appeared in front of your path, blocking the way.
"C'mon kiddo! I thought you loved playing with me, what's the scoop, huh? Why dont'cha anymore?" Clark pouted. You pouted back, time to state your mission statement.
"Mama." You babbled, pointing to the one and only seated on her throne, the couch, who was enjoying the heck out of this, clearly, giggles spilling out as she watched you two.
"Yes. That's Mama, and she's soooo, super duper cool, but so is Dada, not to toot my own horn, so let's play?" He offered once more, even giving you his inviting dopey grin, but you took it for the road as Mama awaited.
You crawled around the talkative obstacle, sitting at Lois' feet as you reached the couch, she laughed down at you, trying not to snort out, knowing Clark would be a little disappointed. But God, were you cute, and God, was this funny.
"We meet again." She said in a playful tone as if she was an ancient thing, expecting you. Now that DID get a giggle out of you as she brought you close to snuggle into her lap, and Clark's pout deepened all the more.
He shuffled over on his knees to where you and Lois sat, resting his chin on one of the couch cushions. He proceeded to sit there and sigh progressively louder every few seconds until Lois looked at him.
He was just as much of a baby as you, if you couldn't already tell.
"What?" Lois finally tore her eyes away from you to meet the eyes of a pouty Clark. At least both of you were cute to look at.
"What am I doing wrong? Why don't they like me anymore?" Clark's eyebrows scrunched as he reached out, placing a hand on your head, his own spur-of-the-moment comment being proven wrong as you leaned into the hand. He smiled.
"Nothing Clark, they're just milk drunk and sleepy and want me for a while. They're a baby, remember? It's not personal."
Lois rested her cheek on top of your head. She believed every word she had spoken, though, she couldn't help but sympathize with Clark as he wasn't currently feeling the comfort that is holding a little one. Their little one.
That could be rearranged.
"C'mon. Hop up here and share the love." Lois stopped rubbing your back for a brief moment to pat the spot next to her, inviting Clark to the couch throne.
Immediately he obliged, getting comfortable next to Lois, reaching out once more to run his hand through your hair. You cooed out to him, and that was enough for Clark.
Slowly and softly, he rested his cheek against Lois' shoulder. First your breath evened out, and your parents' followed.
The house was still, you all asleep.
And, obviously, everyone, felt loved.
