What is the Jaskier Mini Bang?
A collaborative event focused on Jaskier from the Netflix version of the Witcher!
Just like in most fandom bangs, the way it works is:
Creators sign up for the event
Writers come up with fic ideas and submit their ideas to the mods
Artists submit their list of preferred fics they’d like to contribute to
Writers and artists are matched up based on their preferences - every participant will have a partner to work with
The most fun part! Writers and artists collaborate to finish the fic and the associated artwork
For the purposes of this event, by art we don’t mean just digital or traditional illustrations - artists are also allowed to create sculptures, photo manips, music playlists, podfics and many other kinds of art.
A mini bang, in this case, means that the word count requirement for fanfiction is lower than in a typical big bang. To read up more about big bangs in general, you can go here!
What are the general rules and restrictions for all participants?
(to see specific requirements for writing and art in this event, scroll down)
All works created have to focus on the character of Jaskier from the Netflix version of the Witcher
While we want to place focus on Netflix!Jaskier, we do allow elements from other Witcher canons - such as Netflix!Jaskier in the game universe, or Netflix!Jaskier interacting with book versions of characters in Netflix!verse and other combinations. You are allowed to mix and match canons as you please, as long as Netflix!Jaskier is the focus of the work - hell, you want to include Dandelion as well? Or maybe you’d like to see Geralt from The Hexer interact with Netflix!Jaskier? Go wild!
Works focusing on ships are allowed, but in that case, the main ship in a work has to involve Jaskier; other ships are allowed, but they cannot be the focus of a work
We are also open to rarepairs! Keep in mind, though, that the rarer the ship, the lower the chances we’ll be able to pair you up with an artist who is enthusiastic about that ship
Works rated M or E (Mature, Explicit - according to AO3 rating system) and NSFW works will be allowed, but only participants aged 18+ will be able to create and collaborate on those. For works with ratings lower than M and containing no NSFW elements, there are no age requirements
Works containing graphic descriptions of violence, major character death, hard kink, incest or dubcon require prior mod approval before being allowed into the event. If you’re unsure about whether your idea will be allowed, reach out!
Works containing: underage relationships, RPF and noncon will not be allowed for this event
All works will need to be appropriately tagged
Crossovers will be decided on a case to case basis, but a good rule of thumb is this: the focus of the work should be on the Witcher characters even if the setting of the work is from another medium. The work should not require extensive knowledge of a medium different than the Witcher
Writers are allowed to sign up as artists and vice versa! We do ask that anyone who signs up as both does not reveal the fic ideas and summaries before the claims list is available for artists
Frequently asked questions here
Works written for the event have to have a minimum of 5k words. The suggested maximum is 10-12k words. Works longer than 12k words will be allowed in the event, but we strongly encourage writers to plan for a fic that can be finished during the duration of the event.
Fics created for the event must be new and not posted anywhere prior to the event, either in full or in parts
Writers should not discuss their event fic ideas publicly until the end of the claims period. Discussion of those fic ideas is allowed in the dedicated channels in our Discord server - join here!
Writers should not post their full fic until their assigned posting date. Writers are allowed to share small snippets after pairings are assigned
Fics do not have to be beta read, but we highly encourage it. Participants are allowed to use their own betas or they can look for betas in our Discord server. If you’re struggling to find a beta, reach out to a mod and we’ll do our best to help!
Writer sign ups open on 20 June 2022 and close on 4 July 2022 (23:59 CEST)!
Artists are allowed to create a work in any medium, including:
Digital and traditional 2D art such as illustrations, comics and others
Digital and traditional 3D art such as sculptures, 3D models and others (as long as the artwork can be photographed or screenshotted and easily shared as an image file)
Photography, photosets and photo manips
Crafts (as long as they can be photographs and easily shared as an image file)
Playlists (event playlists should have at least 10 tracks and a cover)
Podfics (for specific requirements regarding podfic, see below)
For any type of artistic medium not listed above - reach out to us and we’ll work with you to see if we can allow it for this event!
Artists are allowed to claim a maximum of 5 fics; unless they’re also signed up as a writer, in which case the maximum is 2 fics.
Artists are only guaranteed one assignment; any assignment after that depends on the number of participants and other factors - but we highly encourage artists to claim more than one fic!
Artists are required to create at least 1 finished artwork per assignment. There is no upper limit for how much artwork an artist can create per assignment.
Additional requirements for podfic
Podfics do not have to cover the entire fic that the artist is assigned to. The minimum required is a recording of 1k of the fic or the first finished chapter ready for the posting date - podficcers are free to podfic the rest of their assigned fic after the event.
We will have a different set of posting dates for fics with podfics to give podficcers additional time to record and edit before posting. We may also allow for podfics to be posted after the fic, on a case to case basis.
Artist sign ups open on 20 June 2022 and close on 18 July 2022 (23:59 CEST)!
