At what point are writers beginning to contribute to the AI cultivated problem of short attention span for readers? That’s why they are using it, rather than doing the work or searching themselves for the knowledge. And I say this as someone who has ADHD. But teaching shortening everything—hook is first line, first chapter needs primary action, less and less world building, lower the reading level, no details needed, etc etc etc…
We want everything faster and faster. Easier and easier.
And it’s making us dumber, research proves it.
So few have distress tolerance, like any. For anything.
But what we aren’t remembering is that many of those skills were once learned through reading. Through gradually reading harder things. Through WANTING to read older/smart things.
When did we lose our desire to grow?
When did authors shift to writing for sales and not for the story? When did capitalism take over writing?
