I’m far more inclined to think the one pointing notably away is Mizuki’s rather than Kanade’s.

I haven’t had my Niigo thinking cap on for a bit so forgive me if this isn’t deep, but if anything, isn’t it kinda that Ena and Kanade’s futures are like, most related to Niigo, career-wise? That’s what I think given the plot summary of Mizuki looking into her future options, at least. Mafuyu’s interest in nursing and Mizuki’s in fashion design have fuck all to do with Niigo’s current activities and fuck all to do with the other’s passion, whereas Kanade is absolutely going to keep composing whether that’s with Niigo or through whatever means of monetization, and while Ena is ultimately pursuing being an Artist artist, doing art for Niigo is still art and is actively pushing her towards new forms of expression. For Kanade and to some extent Ena, this can be the job, for Mizuki and Mafuyu their career passions lie elsewhere. These are the directions their career paths will take them, if they choose to follow them. Which is why Mafuyu is standing at a crossroads, trying to make decisions but still not entirely aware of where she wants to go, looking in the direction of Kanade’s path. I guess. None of them lead backwards, I don’t think there’s a more forward direction because all of their paths will take them somewhere new, away from the house in the distance (and perhaps away from each other… (I don’t think Niigo is going to ever actually divorce but if everyone looking at their futures necessarily they have to figure out how the form of Niigo may or may not change to accommodate)). Also I don’t do flowers but the ones Mafuyu’s holding look most similar to the ones on Kanade’s sign.

Mizuki’s card is her getting ready in the landing of the house, luggage ready, door open, she’s leaving her place of comfort to take on the world after one last look over.

Kanade’s is her listlessly on the swings in the garden of the house, like an approximation of movement or flight or the outside world while ultimately tethered to the spot in this comfort zone under her control.

Miku’s at a café in town or something idk. Her position as extension of SEKAI as a rest spot?

always looking at herself. for better and for worse, she knows exactly who she is. she knows what she loves. she knows her strengths. and she knows her fatal flaws. what's more, she sees it all as equally immutable.

when she's getting ready to head out, she looks in the mirror and sees how others would perceive her. when she's faking a smile, she looks in the mirror and sees the turmoil hidden underneath. when she's struggling with anxiety and isolation, she looks in the mirror and sees the only person she can blame.

and when the sight of herself becomes too terrible to bear? she covers up the mirror in her room. or, she does this:

The distress when she realized she can't find any of her mom's old clothes that still smell like her anymore.

Coming to know Mafuyu's scent and finding herself missing it when Mafuyu isn't around. 'Accidentally' getting their pillows swapped once and sleeping better than she ever has before because she can just bury herself in that smell.

Mizuki’s seems like it’s just plain (THE BUN IS CUTE AS FUCK!!!!), Mafuyu’s is really crunchy still but looks like her usual one maybe, but that’s still 3/4 Niigo scrunching it up.
