My main/art blog is @lemonlumens, this is my Project Sekai sideblog. As you may be able to tell, I like Mizurui a lot and post about them a lot. I find them fascinating, and their relationship is fascinatingly weird as hell. More generally, I'm a Niigo fan before I'm a person and I'm in the process of contracting a case of WxS poisoning. Polyniigo and Polysho are simply true to me.
I’m also insane about Waiting for Godot, the play about waiting that Rui mentions a couple times, and I frequently post about it in relation to Rui and Mizuki. The quote in my blog description is from it, as is any dialogue attributed to Vladimir and Estragon, it’s what I’m referring to with any mention of Godot or waiting or “nothing to be done”.

I like how the fanart of Mizuki’s outfit from ena7 is split between whether she’s wearing leggings or socks. It really is hard to tell but it’s leggings.
I was having a bit of trouble drawing a pose so I was like why don't I pose my unfinished mzri models for reference real quick and then that was 8 hours ago. I did some shit and it doesn't particularly show but I do like this pose and I like watching them spin.
Ultra C and Beyond the Way blend together in my head a bit, not helped by them releasing relatively close to each other, but god both are soooo fucking good. Like Ultra C is just a hair catchier and that Wanna wanna touuuuuuuuuuuuuch down, go all ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut is utterly peak so it tends to supercede my memory of both, but dude Beyond the Way's So burn my burn my heart bit.... both are great gotta love Giga

Lost child is forever gonna be iconic for Mafuyu ripping out a poison ivy IV, that’s just such potent imagery. The confusion between nurse and patient, IV medicine a necessity for getting better and poison ivy keeping her sick and trapped, whether by ripping it out by force she’s hurting herself or freeing herself or both, the hospital itself taken by ivy, abandoned and uninhabited and warped and nonsensical in contruction as seen in the other cards, the table Mafuyu’s on looks if anything to be an autopsy table.
I finally finished Waiting for Godot (mostly because of @/friendsinsolitude it feels wrong not to mention that) and this one type of interaction, whatever you call it, between Estragon and Vladimir felt extremely like mizurui to me in a way
Edit because I wrote the original post hastily while powerwalking to work and only included context in the tags to explain what I mean: estragon and vladimir in the play have a frequent back-and-fort talking style of yes-anding around a concrete assessment of their situation; however there's a few moments where estragon makes a full stop on some particular descriptive analogy, whereas vladimir tries to keep their back-and-forth up in the air.
As for here, Mizuki is somewhat the more 'grounded in her own convictions' of the two between her and Rui; Rui will play along to other's paces and cede his own point of view more readily.
...so I think he would just. Let her say they're not friends. Yeah that's not what he would want but he only ever goes as far as support for the most part with her (and with a lot of his friends from what I can tell tbh)
Examples of what I'm talking about in the actual play.
A radio show? By two teenagers alone! At midnight! Asking not to be interrupted while ‘on air’! Localized entirely within the Kamishiros’ garage slash Rui’s de facto room?! [I’m very amused by what Rui’s parents might presume about the optics of early days Midnight Showtime, the radio show Mizuki and Rui have in the universe of that connect live, noted to have initially started in Rui’s garage. I think Rui should needlessly suffer The Talk.]

Every day of my life I think about Mayonaka no Showtime. If it started in Rui’s garage then has Mizuki met Rui’s parents? They steal the Nightcord at 23:30 bit about “Midnight Showtime” starting midday, and Mizuki complains that her relevance to the name would disappear if it were aptly titled, so the “midnight” is more than likely symbolic of her extant affiliation with Nightcord (and the “showtime” to Rui and WxS, but that’s more generic), but like, had it ever actually been at midnight and the midday timeslot was a pivot made when things started picking up in that universe? I think the potential optics of Rui bringing Mizuki to his garage slash de facto room at midnight on the regular as observed by his parents would just be really really funny. Especially when the “radio show” is eventually proven real by its astronomical success garnering 80% of the population of Japan listening in.

In the Niigo WL2 afterlive Mizuki said “singing with you all really is nice” and I immediately thought of her and Rui’s kizuna r56 show call-out line. So awesome. Getting severely mzri/polyniigo minded about it, I really like these bits where the same/similar language is used about Mizuki’s feelings for them. Like in the WL2 afterlive it’s very much that thing of this world where we’re here together, connected like this, is miraculous.
And I think just the same is true abt the mzri r56 dialogue, that quieter admission of being here and connecting with you/others being really actually nice, huh. Like that unspoken “I’m glad you’re here too” from that bday 4koma. The wonder of continuing connection. And like, the difference between “singing with you all is really nice!!” of N25WL2 and “singing is nice” “if you’re fine with me, I’ll accompany you whenever” of mzri rank56, Mizuki able to say that it is the being with everyone she finds nice, vs Rui’s hedged follow up on her implication of.
Mafuyu’s little snipes at everyone’s weak points (like Ena’s weight management and temper, Kanade’s struggles with everyday tasks and physical exertion, Mizuki’s self-indulgence like skipping school or reckless spending, etc) get more and more interesting the further we get from the Mafuyu who would say she doesn’t understand why others do the things they do. Cause it’s very much a predictable routine by now, she knows what the response is and chooses that anyway.
A little bit I kinda think she really likes winning. And the way to win rhetoric is to prove someone’s words false, to point out hypocrisy. I mean, the snipes are Funny, but it’s also kinda genuinely distasteful in an interesting way cause a lot of the snipes content are stuff the other three use to bludgeon themselves, like genuinely to some extent distressing. And I think it’s stuff that in a certain view is easy to boil down to “failures of self-discipline,” like as if they’re purely consequence of actions they take or don’t take rather than just as much products of circumstance/reinforced by environments/pressure to adhere to norms. Cause like, what’s Mafuyu had except a deeply instilled self-discipline. Y’know? To some extent taking the extreme effort she’s put into everything, into acting perfection, as a given. So those “failures of self-discipline” clash with her worldview of what’s normal, and are therefore fair game. It’s interesting as extension of her whole thing in main story of pointing out all the negative things everyone had been ignoring.
