We are no longer alone, waiting for the night, waiting for Godot, waiting for⌠waiting. All evening we have struggled, unassisted. Now itâs over. Itâs already tomorrow. (Prsk sideblog. Largely Mizurui lol)
My main/art blog is @lemonlumens, this is my Project Sekai sideblog. As you may be able to tell, I like Mizurui a lot and post about them a lot. I find them fascinating, and their relationship is fascinatingly weird as hell. More generally, I'm a Niigo fan before I'm a person and I'm in the process of contracting a case of WxS poisoning. Polyniigo and Polysho are simply true to me.
Iâm also insane about Waiting for Godot, the play about waiting that Rui mentions a couple times, and I frequently post about it in relation to Rui and Mizuki. The quote in my blog description is from it, as is any dialogue attributed to Vladimir and Estragon, itâs what Iâm referring to with any mention of Godot or waiting or ânothing to be doneâ.
Organizational tag directory (look here if you want to find a specific kind of thing I post or know what MSMS or Bitter Almonds are referring to):
#rambles - All my textposts
#swagposts - My posts that I particularly like and/or put some effort in.
#parallels - Posts where I draw parallels in the text, screenshots and/or citing my sources.
#asks - Asks.
#my art - My finished art. Everything here can also be found reblogged to my main/art blog.
#doodles - All my art and art-like stuff, including sketches, wips, and edits ~exclusive~ to this blog.
#my comics - Comics and sequentials, any of my art with dialogue basically.
#3d stuff - I dabble in 3d modelling (and needle felting) on occasion.
#notes app excerpts - The closest I get to writing.
#images tag - Textposts that are images and I therefore can't keyword search.
#mizurui playlist - Selected lyrics and justifications, songs I think are perhaps very Mizuki and or Rui. You can find the playlist here (spotify link)
#mizurui - Guess. Also includes reblogs. I donât tag a lot of my Mizurui posting on account of being insane, though, so you may also want to search âMizuruiâ or âMizuki and Ruiâ without the hashtag on my blog if you want to see the full picture of my illness.
Specific scenarios:
#transfem rui - Wouldnât it be awesome if Rui were transfem. Iâm ill about her.
#mizurui yuri - Wouldnât it be awesome if Mizuki and Rui were both trans girls and were deeply involved with each other in a sometimes implicitly-explicitly romantic sense. Iâm ill about them.
#nothing sweeter than bitter almonds - College roommates Mizurui where Mizuki blatantly puts almond extract in Ruiâs food to make him think sheâs poisoning him, Ruiâs determined to play dumb and not give her the reaction she wants. Yet another mindgame they play for fun. Here's the main post outlining the scenario with accompanying art.
#middle school manslaughter - AU where Mizuki accidentally kills a guy in middle school and Rui covers it up. The rest of the story proceeds as normal(?). Referred to as MSMS for short. | chronological view if you wanna see how the idea developed.
#reverieâs getaway - Adult Mizurui situationship roadtrip, wherein Mizuki drops by Ruiâs apartment occasionally like stray cat, and then they go on a 3ish day roadtrip together somehow.
#sugar dissolves - Diamonds are Forever, Sugar Dissolves. Adult Mizurui yuri where they become ex-fiancĂŠes after a proposal and subsequent premarital divorce, featuring a ring pop and elaborate bit. They are not dating beforehand.

The thing about romantic mizurui I like is the lack of flutteriness. Thereâs no butterflies in stomachs to me, itâs a steady warmth or abject nausea. Thereâs no shyness. Also theyâre really weird about each other.
Everything understood is left unspoken and everything left unspoken will not be understood, the fucking thinggggg with Mizuki and Rui is that neither will put each other out of their misery and say it in as many words, simultaneously a cruelty and mercy. I donât think their feelings and wants are ever all that mismatched they just cannot for the life of them get it across. Being as they are, alike, playing rock paper scissors against your reflection always ends in a draw.
All the VNs Iâve been familiar with before prsk have standard talksprites, static or the typical type of animation, and Iâm not into Vtubers either, so the live2d was pretty novel to me, but damn looking at other games in the gacha vn genre with live2d the difference is stark huh? Gets across what it needs to and I wouldnât go so far as to say prsk is particularly ugly or anything, but like wow live2d can actually look good elsewhere.
I really like extrapolating Mizuki feeling an odd tension between wanting Rui and wanting Rui to be miserable because thatâs the only time she can conceptualize him wanting her as much and also just straight up wanting him to be happy and therefore not wanting to infect him with her misery, from her secret distance ss2. What a thing to remember him miserable fondly and feel crushed by him smiling happily. Itâs such an awesome feeling because itâs not even as though Mizuki would say she wants a future just the two of them, thatâs something she may have felt in middle school through the circumstance of them being alone together, not an isolated want for One Special Person nor Rui to fill that role, theyâve both met good people now. I want you to be miserable so youâll be by my side again, and I want you to be happy while youâre by my side otherwise Iâll be catastrophically revolted, but we wouldnât be beside each other if we were happy. Itâs so utterly useless and inactionable! Itâs terrible! Itâs a terrible thing to think! It feels terrible and selfish! Itâs awesome!!!

I think smth interesting would be if the MSMS event was lim.... I have trouble imaging the hypothetical hairstyles but I just know they'd look really cute (as cute as an event amount an accidental death can be lol). Hundreds of thousands of crystals will be eaten by the gacha in this scenario. Oh god tiering would be an absolute bloodbath too
Legitimately evil but yeah, the scarcityyyyy. The leaks would go insane Iâd love to see the speculation based off just the preview and then the cards. Zero clue on hairstyles either Iâm not that creative lol. The agony of pulling on lims would really instill in the players the right emotional landscape to be in for the story. Itâs mixed so thereâs no comm but imaginarily itâs Stress by Justice, the bgm sounds suspiciously like that. Man it being a mixed event this serious is still really funny.
Mizukiâs sad smile she uses whenever she gives up on something and is doing a really shit job of convincing herself itâs fine or is reminiscing always fucking gets me, itâs not even classified as a smile in the files itâs under her sad expressions itâs that tragic.
This one gets me too, itâs like this other one she uses while lying a lot but also uses genuinely sometimes, except she canât even muster that degree of brightness and real melancholy seeps through.
Thinking on a name for the Hypothetical MSMS Event, I was thinking some shit along the lines of like Unearthing a Buried Past, some sort of play on the literal/figurative resurfacing of the body and the memories, but itâd be really funny if it also abbreviated to MSMS. Mystery Mansion Gacha is perfect and feels close enough that itâs fun as is but we could get on the nose-r for the proper title. Ummmmm. Mantle shifting, muddy story. Memories stirring murky sediment. Muffled souvenirs may surface. This is nonsense word association but like, maybe itâs not that far off from some of the really abstruse event titles if I convince myself hard enough.

Ichika valentines was soooo cute still, Nene Ichika Kanade Honami friendship is really really awesome and cute, I love when Kanade and Nene interact at all their superficial similarities and quickly revealed differences are so neat and the interaction between their different brands of social awkwardness is cute. FriendshipâŚ.. Kanadeâs line after everyone leaves about her house feeling quieter than usual despite this being how it normally is breaks my heartttt, so itâs just really heartwarming to see her having friends, outside of Niigo too. Like, sheâs come so far from her semi-apathetic affect from the start of the game, the ability to recognize that sheâs lonely, the ability to reach out for the sake of reaching out. And Nene! From Twilight Parade her thing with Ichika and teaching her to sing, having put all that effort into reaching out to her and making that connection herself instead of letting it pass, their continuing friendship is hust so freaking cutesâŚ. And all of their confidence in reaching out and connecting. Augh!! Friendship!!!!!

I dislike Tsukasa too but you're kind of being uncharitable with that Sakurako post. 1) He refers to Nene as his rival on many occasions, 2) Besides Nagi and maybe Yuuki, there aren't female NPCs looked up to by the cast, 3) He's looking to that actor because it's that actor who gave him his dream and played that exact same role. He DOES praise and recognize her in stories. 2 is important but it's not like this is specific to Tsukasa. The writers are just misogynistic, unconsciously or not.
LMAO uncharitable to who???? Tsukasa isnât real and doesnât exist outside of the writers writing him, if they write his story misogynistically then his story is misogynistic, which obviously reflects on his character like everyone elseâs. Do you think Project Sekai: Colorful Stage Feat. Hatsune Miku is a documentary and the writers are the biased documentarian team warping the True Image of Tenma Tsukasa or something? Everything they write about him is what makes up his character. I was talking about Tsukasa specifically because I read Phoenix and was talking about Phoenix and Sakurakoâs role in Phoenix and Phoenix is a Tsukasa event. What.
1) I donât feel that Tsukasa has been meaningfully shown to see Nene as someone to catch up to, certainly not as a motivating factor in his own event, whereas I feel that a lot of time has been given to showing Nene thinking of Tsukasa as someone to catch up to. Nowhere did I imply he hasnât called Nene a rival, I did imply that I donât feel like Iâve been meaningfully shown that being true through story structure, and I maintain that opinion.
2) As well as Kazamatsuri, Byakkomachi, Futaba, various rival bands and idols in Leoni and MMJ stories, there are female NPCs that are looked up to, but the people who look up to them are only girls. Whereas thereâs a slew of influential male thespians and fathers and relatives and street musicians and executives and the like that have quite a bit of relevance to the stories of boys AND girls. I said that. Itâs bad that no men look up to any women! Itâs frustrating that Phoenix felt like it was set up as if it might prove a meaningful exemption to that by giving focus to a fun, voiced, animate, and established female character whoâs really good at her job and has some meaningful similarities to Tsukasa, and then the actual climax is pinned on a man who doesnât have a voice or face. Structurally, the bait and switch sucks.
3) I understand the sequence of events, I understand the story shown, I understand the logic of Tsukasaâs actions, Iâm not calling it a plot hole or other failure of internal logic, I donât like it. I read the story. I was posting about it because I read the story. I think Tsukasaâs figurative unreachable Phoenix in Phoenix not being the diva of the Phoenix stage who he acknowledges as significantly more skilled than him who is playing the Phoenix his character in the play canât reach was unsatisfying. The character who is his figurative Phoenix being a man who is nothing more than a name and text in a visual novel is unsatisfying. I donât care if him not having a voice or model is symbolic of Tsukasaâs inability to reach him being so wide a gap that he canât bring his image to sceen or something similar, I think thatâs a fair interpretation (that you didnât offer) and I think it doesnât cancel out how unsatisfying it is. Youâre not gonna rephrase it in a way where I suddenly like it more, I understood it fine the first time.
Also that post was way less uncharitable and way less about Tsukasaâs interiority than the ones I made literally immediately before? The one where Iâm like âI found Sakurakoâs place in the narrative structure of Phoenix as a woman wild and unsatisfying in the context of a game that doesnât have any men look up to women, cause it made me believe thatâs what it was setting upâ is the one youâre nitpicking about being discharitable and not the ones where Iâm like âI donât like reading Tsukasa events cause heâs stupid (HYPERBOLE)â?? You have some interesting priorities.
I donât really care if Iâm discharitable to fictional characters or the writers at times lol. I wasnât trying to be objective or write an essay or whatever, I read Phoenix, I had thoughts, I tried to articulate what I found lacking personally, why I didnât click with it. But now that you took time out of your day to tell me that I was being uncharitable in a tumblr post I made a week ago, Iâm gonna do some serious self reflection about being kinder to fictional characters and misogynistic writers while engaging with and interpreting stories by posting on my project sekai tumblr blog.
In terms of what hurts herself and others the most, the stubbornness of her belief that her story only has bad endings. Mizuki takes her catastrophizing as what a situation concretely is; she buys in on her terror and pessimism and defeatism as being the realistic and sure outcome, she believes it when her fears and self-hatred speak for the the people that love her in her head. Itâs a very understandable and tragic coping mechanism for the routine loss and abuse sheâs endured her whole life, if she expects the worst it wonât hurt as much when it comes, but it means she gives up on trying for anything more because it feels out of reach to her, regardless of whether itâs actually attainable. Sheâs always had to be on guard against attacks coming in between the lines, she doesnât know how to handle love said straightforwardly. There has to be some condition, there has to be a limit in scope or time, there has to be some unflattering comparison, she knows sheâs just fundamentally fucked and dispensable. Even if she could believe the love shown to her is real, theyâll all find something better eventually, and sheâll be left behind, sheâd just drag them down by clinging, sheâd be stupid to believe anything else.
She lives with a sword of Damocles hanging above her neck, knowing that in any instant, if the wind blows the wrong way, sheâll be beheaded. And this leaves her flighty, it leaves her thinking she knows better than all the people around her, she thinks she knows that no matter what they say or do or promise, they donât really mean it. She retreats to her own world, never sharing anything with the people who want to know her, who want to know her joy and despair, who want to be there for her through both, who want to give her as much as sheâs given them, who want to connect with her, who want to stay with her, she shuts all that down.
The ending is set in stone, Mizuki Akiyama is dead, she never arrives no matter how long sheâs waited for, thatâs the way it is. Itâs ridiculously unfair to everyone and herself, to think the people who care about her donât mean what they say, to unilaterally decide that they would drop her the second it became inconvenient or they found out what she âreally isâ in any sense, to cheat herself out of the love extended to her because she thinks she doesnât deserve it. Because sheâs had her autonomy questioned and denied so long, she believes she doesnât meaningfully have any, and ironically, she denies the autonomy of anyone interfacing with her, flattening everything into a storyâ a tragedy; she knows how it ends, and everyone is helpless to do anything about it. Isnât it all so sad? Thereâs nothing to do but act whatâs written. Of course, the story hasnât actually been written yet. Thereâs no way to know how it ends before it does. Tomorrowâs pages are blank, the pen is in her hand.
