Mizurui Mass Psychogenic Illness

I’m also insane about Waiting for Godot, the play about waiting that Rui mentions a couple times, and I frequently post about it in relation to Rui and Mizuki. The quote in my blog description is from it, as is any dialogue attributed to Vladimir and Estragon, it’s what I’m referring to with any mention of Godot or waiting or “nothing to be done”.

I sound insane but this is an established Mizuki motif and I went and checked and the only other Rui cards with scissors in them are his Holy Night untrained which shows a bunch of his garage including the costume Mizuki made hanging on the wall, and anni2 in which Mafuyu is holding medical shears, very much that thing of her finding what she wants to do (nursing) starting to free herself of her mother’s pressure, it was Mizuki’s idea to attend the festival, Rui happened to be talking about middle school also.

It’s ultimately more clinging to plausible deniability like usual, but it is pretty nice that the character Mizuki plays in the show is very explicitly a girl, and Mizuki experiences a shitfuck ton of character bleed by design. The whole thing is a thinly— honestly it’s not even veiled it just straight up is likened to Mizuki and Ena’s deal, so for it to be a story of two girls is nice.

Like this bit especially where it’s very much Mizuki finding that determination, where she and Kosame overlap and it’s near purely Mizuki’s feeling, but it’s Kosame that makes up her mind because they’re one and the same. Of course given Rui’s earlier words.

Also ameonna is really kinda very much said like a slur, calling Kosame inhuman, framed in much the same fashion all those scenes of Mizuki overhearing the vile transmisogynistic shit about her are.

It’s of course always awesome how every time Mizuki and Rui think of their middle school selves they think of That Fucking Rooftop. Like this is of course in part cause that’s the only graphic (mostly) specific to their middle school, but like, their designs are notably different enough that you could tell it’s a flashback to middle school no matter where they were. Yet that roof remains the symbol of the, like, zeitgeist of middle school to them. Of the thoughts and feelings and memories they associate with that period of time, the people they were. Also interesting cause presumably Rui only started going to the rooftop in his third year aligning with meeting Mizuki, but the anecdote he tells later on pertaining to his resonance to the sitch with the girls fighting is from before then. The image of himself in middle school is so associated with the rooftop that it’s invoked anachronistically.
