That beginning sequence of Lestat playing on the piano with Louis on FaceTime is so incredibly domestic it makes me weep that the entire season is built off of the crashout that follows.

I’m starting to realize we may not all be ready for Racism 102, aka “often times, you don’t think ‘I’m going to be racist,’ you just act on it.”
It does not matter what other reasons you have for being racist. It was still racist. White people lashing out on people of color when In Their Feelings About Something is still racism. White people objectifying people of color for WHATEVER reason is still racism.
Hey, so me saying that I see Wicander as my favorite Sam Riegel character to date (as a known Sam Riegel disliker by my close friends) is because I find it incredibly compelling that he is playing a character in a position of power from an institution that is oppressive, being forced to face and interact with people he and his family are oppressing and having to handle that complexity. Regardless of him being a “sweet boy” and having good intentions, this narrative is forcing him into situations where taking accountability is integral. He inherited that lot, and it is his responsibility to either separate himself from it fully and actually break the system if he actually wants to be remembered as a good fucking person. I for one am incredibly excited to see what Brennan puts him through.
That is why I’m interested in this character more than his previous ones. It speaks to ME as a marginalized Queer Latine person living in the current political climate in the States. Narratively it is more interesting to me than what I’ve seen before. And that’s not supposed to be some kind of an attack on your favorite iteration of a Sam Riegel character.
It has nothing to do with *checks notes* Wicander being “conventionally attractive”.
And this is why as a basis I am always looking at Critters sideways…
The way Critters are quick to protect their favorite thing (these fictional characters) and act out of pocket with real people has always been an issue. I have several reasons why there’s characters I don’t like, fully because of who is playing them. And making any sort of explanation for it means getting dragged through coals.
