most of what people like about it is the potential, as is the case with most other pairings since we’re still only 30 episodes in.

The only difference between this pairing and most other pairings is that Occtis and Kattigan haven’t had a chance to share a table together and actually develop a bond.

most people paid attention to occtis & kattigan’s interactions after the above screenshots because the show hadn’t even aired yet. to people's surprise, there was some substance to the pairing.

episode 1:

upon first seeing kattigan, occtis got so distracted he dropped his spell. kattigan appeared to flirt back, "I have that effect on many."

kattigan & occtis had a connection through their emotional support animals/familiars.

pin & wulferic playing was the first time occtis had fully smiled in episode 1.

their first meeting was followed by kattigan trying to impress occtis (“I’m a well sought after bounty hunter, I work for the people, you know.”)

episode 2:

alex was very eager to roleplay with kattigan during the scene in which kat eats pie in a feral way - “my lord, what a way to eat”

a lot of people kept talking over alex during the scene (not that it’s a big deal, it happens) and unfortunately the overture didn’t allow very much room for roleplay, but the eagerness is noted simply because there was potential for more interaction that didn't happen

episode 3:

the infamous ass slap occurs, which is the foundation for the sexual attraction on Kattigan’s part

it was also something to encourage Occtis to make his own decisions despite his fears.

seeing occtis as a person, not a means to an end:

even with their tables being separate, Kattigan also made the comment about Occtis: “He’s young, but he’s capable,” in response to Thimble worrying about him - attempting to reassure her but also pointing out that Occtis could very well handle himself.

In comparison to everyone else either seeing him as a miracle or means to an end, this offered that Kattigan’s perspective of Occtis was that he is an adult that can handle himself - the opposite of being suffocated by Julien, Thaisha, and Vaelus, something said during this interview around 16:54. 

Alex pointed out the Seekers all confused him because he was trying to be three different things for three different people that all wanted something from him. Occtis later brought this up as a point of resentment towards Julien - he was tired of listening to Julien with the fear that if he didn’t do what he said, he would kill him.

For some Occtigan fans, we felt Kattigan would allow Occtis to be himself & explore himself without the same suspicion the Seekers were giving him.

the convergence:

this entire convergence they barely spoke to the other, until That moment in the wine cellar

episode 31:

Kat pushed Occtis against the wine, calling him pretty boy. He also asked if he was a Daddy's boy, the subtext caked into the interaction.

Occtis responding to the interrogation with that wide, fascinated grin affirmed the sexual tension.

Laura was wiggling her eyebrow and grinning during the entire scene along w/ half the cast reacting with interest and that made it more palpable.

All of this was followed by Kattigan healing Occtis with a cure wounds, after no one else appeared to help him.

Occtis shudders as he's healed, whispering "I appreciate that," under his breath when Hal checks on them.

Robbie’s love language, as someone else pointed out, is through healing, and that was demonstrated a lot in Campaign 3.

Kattigan looked towards Occtis for direction on where to go when the tables split, and Occtis took the lead in instruction.

Contrary to what most folks believe, the potential behind this dynamic lies in the fact that as imposing as Kattigan may seem, he’s very caring, and he’s very loyal, and he’s VERY intentional and observant. And despite how small and frail Occtis may seem, he’s considerably powerful and has often carried the political discussions that the group has been having. He's also incredibly straight forward and more assertive than he was in life.

It only took Occtis clarifying his allegiance for Kattigan to be at the ready and trust him, compared to others who only offered skepticism. Occtis also repeatedly insisted Kattigan come with them, saying “we are going to the Golden Orchard" - and it’s as simple as that for Kat.

it is also worth noting that Incubus Succubus by Xmal Deustchland on Occtis' official playlist was the same song Robbie used for the Occtigan selfie on Instagram.

robbie & alex are co-conspirators

by now, it's no secret: both Alexander Ward and Robbie Daymond know about the pairing, and the next arc may reflect that knowledge.

chronologically, it appeared that both Robbie & Alex recognized people drew fanart and shipped Occtis & Kattigan sometime between the campaign first airing and them filming the Convergence.

there was a small group of dedicated fans (including me & some friends of mine) that maintained that robbie & alex might actually romance each other if they shared a table.

Back in March, Alex & Robbie posted the following, along with Whitney encouraging them to kiss. (We now know this to be taken after they filmed the Convergence in March 2026, looking at their outfits.)

There was also this moment during Sam's livestream in which Alex talked about how many people on the internet really wanted to see Occtis with Kattigan as well as his naming preferences for the pairing. This was a surprise to some because Knightingale/Occtien was the most popular m/m pairing for Occtis at the time. This was also the first time he mentioned his preference for the name 'Kocctis.'

Alex then mentions Occtigan AGAIN in the Campaign 4 shipping ad talking about how he prefers the name Kocctis. Contextually however, we now know this was all filmed after the Convergence. So they definitely knew something we didn't!

In a surprising turn of events, I've actually gotten additional information through experiences either myself or my friends have had at conventions.

Phoenix Fan Fusion 2026 - In a conversation where we asked about the nature of duo photo ops, Alexander Ward mentioned Robbie "loved coming up with ideas to feed the Occtigan shippers" during their games. We did not prompt him about shipping at all prior to this conversation, he brought it up himself!

Anime Blues Con 2026 - A friend of mine showed Robbie Daymond my instagram to show him my work. They were both talking about artists that they enjoyed, and they gave me as an example (assuming Robbie had already seen my artwork, because I'm one of the emote artists for the Beacon Discord.) Robbie saw my Occtigan art, pointed at it, and said "It's always good to see this ship." He also and began 'smiling and giggling like a schoolgirl.'

with these two encounters, I think it's safe to say Robbie *really* enjoys the pairing, and we're likely to see more from them in the future. Alex holds some kind of affection towards the pairing too, wanting it to be named 'Kocctis' instead of 'Occtigan.'

why is the majority of content for them sexually charged?

I feel the need to point this out, but it’s purely coincidental that everything we have currently is very sexually charged! The few scenes they have together are significant enough for people to theorize about their dynamic.

subverting expectations within their dynamic

Most people believe it’s the stereotypical helpess twink x older man dynamic everyone is after, but all of the Occtigan/Kocctis fans I’ve spoken with appreciate the potential of the pairing because it subverts those expectations.

Aside from them both having ESA familiars in Pin & Wulferic, they both had terrible relationships with their abusive fathers and it has directly influenced how they’ve grown. Occtis is young and well educated, but he thinks he’s a failure and he has no idea how to navigate his emotions.

Kattigan is older, but he’s someone born & raised in the woods and emotionally stuck in a time of his life where he lost everything, and he still thinks it’s because he’s a failure. Both have zero social skills as a result, and both are also very lonely people. Kattigan thinks no one gives a fuck about him. Occtis thinks very few people care about him. Neither of them appear to have the capacity to be vulnerable easily, but the way they navigate confrontation is remarkably similar. Neither of them are afraid of speaking their mind. Occtis is no longer timid, and Kattigan never sugarcoats his words. Occtis is driven by his curiosity, and Kattigan is driven by his instincts.

They both have a love for animals & nature, Kattigan feeling at home there with Wulferic as his familiar and Occtis using Pin to explore the forest. There is also the idea that the both of them can be completely unhinged and freaky and neither of them will be scared of each other.

The idea with Occtis and Kattigan is that Kattigan listens to Occtis and learns from him , and Occtis learns how to navigate his emotions in a healthier way from Kattigan in turn (as implied in this interview with Alex around 19:05).

Kattigan lets Occtis be himself while Occtis studies Kattigan. The potential romance comes from the idea of loving someone as they are, encouraging them to explore, to exist without shame of who you are - mistakes and all.
