I just had to (hopefully temporarily) close down EU shipping due to the new PPWR legislature set to take effect Aug 20th - packaging and waste regulation you gotta dish out unaffordable money and paperwork for, mind you that I already follow and pay extra to keep my shipping materials 80-100% paper product, the rest is re-used bubblewrap and such. Then I just found out Trump is rolling out Section 338 - 50% duties on Canadian goods come Aug 19th. The global IEEPA tariffs that were struck down by the Supreme Court were only recently replaced by MFN and Section 301 tariffs - aka Forced Labour tariffs (that a single person business specializing in selling handmade goods like me has to still comply with. The irony of this coming from a country that loves modern slave labour). It seems these new tariffs likely will stack on top of the current ones. I can only hope Trump will back down with pushback like he usually does because this seems utterly nonviable for US-Canada trade as a whole. Same with this fresh batch of ongoing EU regulations because I'd really prefer not to have my main source of income get wiped out. So please fellow Canadians, it's a great time to support one another right now and hey, I have offers of general discount or free shipping for Canada in my online store :') These past years have been brutal with postal strikes lasting months on end (and I'm not crossing the picket line of the Canada Post union) and new regulations and sudden tariffs just utterly devastating so so many global micro-businesses.
