After a long morning shift all I want is to go home, but my phone starts ringing and when I look at the caller ID I feel confused, Jack Abbot reads on the screen, I ask myself why would he be calling me on his day off?Ā
I pick up feeling worried, heās been a bit weird since Robby left and I promised Robby Iād take care of his best friend while heās on his sabbatical.Ā
āHello, Jack?ā I ask as soon as I pick up the phone, but the voice that answers that confirms my name isnāt Jackās voice.
āY/N? Iām Joshā¦ Look Iām gonna need you to come pick up your friend, heās in no condition to drive himself home.ā John says and I immediately realize what Jack has been doing for most of the day.
āRightā¦ Rightā¦ Iāll go pick him up right away, can you please tell me what bar heās at?ā I grab my car keys and start the car, I only end the call after he told me the name of the bar and I put it on the GPS system.Ā
It takes a few minutes to the address, but when I arrive I walk straight into the bar and find Jack practically laying on the counter nursing a glass of whiskey as if itās the most precious drink, but right now he probably thinks he is.
āHey, Jackieā¦ Ready to go home?ā I ask patting his shoulder and he raises his head, at least heās aware of his surroundings.
āY/N, who called you? Ahā¦ Joshā¦ Traitor.ā He says, pointing to Josh as if he was betrayed by the polite bartender who only laughed as he wiped the counter clean. I reach inside Jackās pocket and grab his wallet to settle his bill, giving Josh a fair tip for dealing with a drunk Abbot, which I know isnāt easy.
āLetās go, Jackā¦ Iāll take you home.ā I say reaching under his shoulder and placing his arm around my shoulders to walk with him to my car, thankfully he complies kind of easily, only half complaining about his leg bothering him.
I start driving to his house, already kind of used to the path to his apartment.
āSoā¦ Care to tell me why youāre spending your day off drinking your ass off?ā I ask, glancing at him and he looks at me, his eyes trained on my face and heās been looking at me ever since we got in the car.
āRobbyās been goneā¦ā He says, as if thatās enough reasonā¦ And for him it is.
āI knowā¦ Robbyās been gone for a few days.ā I say softly, knowing how hard itās been for him since Robby left.
āSomeone tattled me to my therapistā¦ She said helping the SWAT team isnāt a hobbyā¦ So she made me stop.ā He says, sulking into the seat and we both know that that someone is Robby, right before he turned off his phone for the sabbatical.Ā
āWellā¦ There are other healthy hobbies, Jackā¦ā I say, breathing deeply and turning into his street, parking in his parking spot.Ā
āI know that, but none of them are as tasty as this oneā¦ā He says and I realize heās entering his flirty state and that is very dangerous for me as I help him into the apartment, the whole way heās throwing flirty jabs my way and Iām trying to be respectful and ignore how good his arm feels around my shoulder. I unlock his door and help him lay down on the couch.
āJack, Iāll go get your pajamasā¦ Do you want anything else from your room?ā I ask helping him lay down on his couch.
āYou can get some and massage my back if youāre offering.ā He says, resting his head on his hand and smiling at me, looking at me up and down. God, how am I supposed to resist this man? I ignore him and turn around to go to his room, I can hear him laugh loudly, this is something Iām used to since itās not the first time I helped him get changed. I grab his pajamas and the lotion. - yes, Iām too weak for this man to deny him a massage- I walk back to his living room and he immediately clocks into the lotion on my hands.
āDamn, honeyā¦ So you are going to give me a massage?ā He says laughing softly, clearly teasing me and I laugh back, throwing his pajamas on his face.
āHa ha. Get changed, Iāll go order us dinner and once youāre sober weāll talk about the massage.ā I say, winking at him teasingly. As I walk into his kitchen I can hear him laughing again.
I order his favorite and go sit on the couch to wait for it, but heās still getting changed and I try to keep my eyes away from his strong back, coughing lightly to make him aware of my presence and he looks at me over his shoulder and our eyes meet, his eyes crinkle when he smiles at me.
āEnjoying the show, sweetheart?ā He says, turning to face me and throwing his shirt on the couch and crossing his arms. Making his arms appear bigger and his pecs more prominent, I cough and cover my burning cheeks when I realize I was staring. He smirks and tilts his head at me, taking a few steps at me.
āJackā¦ Youāre drunk.ā I whisper when heās close enough that I can feel his breathing on my cheek and I tilt my head down.
āDonātā¦ Iām tipsy at best, sweetheart.ā He says, cupping my chin and tilting my head up, I look up into his eyes, those beautiful light blue eyes. My eyes flickering between his eyes and his lips now displaying a small smile as he rubs his thumb gently on my lower lip and I feel his breathing on my lips gently. When he starts to lean down to kiss me and I lean up to kiss him back we hear the doorbell ring.
āItās the foodā¦ Iāll go get itā¦ā I whisper, but make no move to pull away, he only lets go of me when his doorbell rings again, groaning loudly as he goes to get the food.
We sit on the couch to eat, avoiding the huge elephant in the room. Once weāre done eating I can clearly see heās already better. āJackā¦ Drinking like this isnāt healthy for you.āĀ
āI knowā¦ I knowā¦ But now that Robby is gone and I canāt help the SWAT team.. Whiskey is all I have left.ā He says, pushing around the food on his plate and I hold his wrist gently.
āJackā¦ Youāll always have me, always.ā I say, smiling at him gently and rubbing my thumb on his hand softly and he looks at me surprised, as if he hadnāt even considered this option. āWhatā¦?ā He asks, trying to hold back his emotions.
āMe, Jackā¦ If you want to drink, call meā¦ If you need Robby, call meā¦ If you feel anything at all, call meā¦ Iām seriousā I say as seriously as I can and he breaks down, I place our plates on his coffee table and pull him into a hug. Rubbing one hand up and down his back, trying to soothe him and running the other hand on his hair, we stay in this position until his shoulders stop shaking and his sobs quiet down.Ā
We finish eating quietly and I help him move back to his room, turning on the tv he canāt sleep without and help him remove his prosthetic, hearing his loud sigh of relief from it and when I move to turn off the lights and go home, he holds my wrist gently enough that I could pull away in case I wanted to.
āStayā¦ā He whispers gently, so gently that I could have missed it if I wasnāt paying attention to him.
āSureā¦ Of course, like I saidā¦ Alwaysā I whisper, just as gently and smiling at him softly, pulling the blanket so that I can lay with him and as soon as my body hits the mattress he pulls me into his chest, wrapping one arm around my waist and his other hand goes to my hair, running his finger through my hair softly.Ā
āYou still owe me a kiss from the interruption earlierā¦ā He whispers against my shoulder, half asleep and I laugh softly as I promise that if he remembers that tomorrow, Iāll gladly give him as many kisses as he wants. He laughs back with me and rests his chin on my shoulder falling asleep and once I hear his breathing even out, I let my body relax and fall asleep beside him and honestly speakingā¦ It was the best sleep Iāve ever had.

āUhā¦ Sorry to interruptā¦ Whatever that wasā¦ā I say feeling my cheeks burn with shame and my eyes start to burn with unshed tears, I turn away before Mohan can see them, but Jack notices it. Of course he does, always so observantā¦ āIā¦ I have to go, mandatory break according to Robby.ā I mumble over my shoulder, trying to cover the quiver in my voice with a weak laugh as I walk towards the closest on-call room to try to recompose myself.
I walk through the Pitt already exhausted from this shift, damn Iām not built for the morning shift anymore, Iām starting to regret agreeing to doing a double shift to have tomorrow off. After being here for almost a year now, I feel like Iām already used to walking around these halls. I feel like I heard Jackās voice, but when I turn around and donāt see anyone, I just assume Iām imagining things, so I continue on my way, walking through the halls as Iām about to turn to head to the nursesā station, I hear a voice coming from one of the rooms in the corner:
āOkayā¦ Our little secret.ā I hear Mohanās voice and when I turn my head to look inside the room, letting my curiosity speak louder than sense, my eyes widen and I can feel my body freeze. Inside the room is the man that has been plaguing my mind for weeks now.
The man thatās made me feel like Iām on top of the world almost every morning since I transferred into the night shift, Jack Abbotā¦ The man is shirtless on the gurney as Mohan applies something on his back. When I freeze to see the scene my shoes make a loud noise against the floor and both their faces turn towards me, Jackās eyes widen for a fraction of a second, not enough for everyone else to notice, but Iām not everyone elseā¦ Or so I thought.
I can hear Jack calling after me, but I ignore it. It's childish I know, but he shouldāve told me if he wanted to end our agreement to be with Mohan, I get itā¦ Sheās really beautiful and smart and sheāsā¦ Mohan. I enter the on-call room and sit on the small and half decent bed we have there, not even a five minutes later and Jack walks into the room and closes the door behind him, his shirt is backwards and inside out, so he clearly came after me right after I left. I sigh deeply trying to get myself ready to hear him say the words āweāre doneā even though we never really dated.
āWe need to talkā¦ā He says crossing his arms, normally that wouldāve distracted me, the sight of his biceps filling up the shirt so nicely and those pants heās wearing would normally get me riled up for him, but right now? Right now all I want to do is go home and cry myself to sleep.
āIā¦ I suppose we doā¦ā I say breathing deeply, preparing myself for the worst case scenario.
āJack, Iām not stupidā¦ We agreed that this would be āno strings attachedā and itās fine, I get that you only wanted something easy to cool off after shiftsā¦ I just find it ridiculous that we went home together yesterday, you ate breakfast with me this morning and today youāre what? Flirting with Mohan inside one of the rooms? How else am I supposed to take the sentence āOur little secretā damn it?ā I ask, trying not to get exasperated, but failing since I can feel the burn of the tears forming and the feeling of my cheeks burning in something mixed of annoyance and embarrassment.
āY/Nā¦ I donāt know what you think you saw, butā¦ Itās definitely not what you thinkā He says, taking a step closer to me, making me look up at him to meet his eyes, my eyes red rimmed and glassy, which he quickly notices.
āWhat? Y/Nā¦ The ālittle secretā she was talking about was a bruise on my shoulder.ā Jack says, trying to hold my face gently, but I push his hands away still feeling upset with him, still feeling a little self conscious about him being alone while shirtless with Mohan āY/Nā¦ Please donāt push me away, talk to meā¦ā He says, sounding desperate and I can see the panic in his eyes, I sigh loudly, preparing myself as I decide itās the right moment to tell him everything and if he decides to walk awayā¦ Iāll have to spend my 30 minutes break trying to recompose myself and at least pretend to be fine for the rest of the day.
āWh-Whatā¦? Y/N, come onā¦ Youā¦ You really want to end what we have over a misunderstanding with Mohan?ā He asks, his voice breaking slightly by the end of the question, I give him a wet laugh, wiping my tears with the back of my hand.
āI canāt do this anymore, Jackā¦ Usā¦ā I say, blinking fast to try to scare away the tears that are already flooding my vision, his eyes widen and quickly fill up with tears as well.
āItās not just the āMohan situationā, Jackā¦ I canāt do this āno string attachedā shit, just being the girl you fuck when youāre overwhelmed because of workā¦ I fell in love with you and seeing you with Mohan, in that sweet romantic moment helped me realize thatā¦ Just being a fuck for you isnāt something I can take anymoreā¦ I need more and I understand if you canāt offer me that, if Iām not the one you want that withā¦ā I say, finally letting my tears fall and my sobs break through my throat loudly, Jack sits beside me on the bed, cupping the back of my neck and pulling me into a soft hug, I try to fight it, but he shushes me gently, running his fingers through my hair so softly that more sobs break through me.
āYouāre the biggest idiot Iāve ever metā¦ I never said I wanted something casual, you just assumed and I didnāt correct you, because I thoughtā¦ If these nights with you are everything Iāll ever get with you, Iāll make it the best I canā¦ I love you, Y/N, Iām completely, madly in love with youā¦ But I was afraid youād never want to be in a serious relationship with meā¦ Given that Iām not the easiest person to be around.ā He says, laughing wetly as he hides his face in my hair, clearly fighting his tears. Itās not common to see him be so vulnerable.
āWait youā¦ You didnāt want something casualā¦?ā I ask confused, pulling my face away from his chest looking into his eyes.
āNo and I have no idea where you got that idea fromā¦ā He says just as confused, honestly I got that idea from a comment I heard from Dr. Shen, but I wasnāt going to tattle on an attending like this.
āI justā¦ Heard around, but donāt try to change the subjectā¦ You love me?ā I ask, wiping my face, seeing his face flush makes me feel a little more hopeful about our situation.
āYeahā¦ Guess you could say thatā¦ I understand if you still want to end things with me, if me being in love with you ruins ourā¦ Situationā¦ā He says lowering his head, trying to hide the tears that were already forming on his eyes, but I donāt let him think like that for long, because I cup the back of his head and kiss him deeply.
And that was the best kiss weāve had so far, itās messy and full of teeth, but also filled with the feelings we were trying to hide, full of the love we were both trying to bury. He sighs deeply into the kiss, tangling his fingers through my hair.
āYouā¦ You are a menace, sweetheart. So weāre real now?ā He asks, smiling at me hopefully. I smile at him softly.
āYes, Jackieā¦ Weāre real, but I expect a real date to officialize it.ā I say smiling at him, playing with his hair gently. He laughs softly, nodding and pecking my lips over and over again. āSoā¦ You said something about you being hurt? What happened?ā I ask feeling worried about him, but he calms me down and shows me the bruise forming on his back, I help him put the shirt on properly this time, laughing softly as I kiss him one last time before we have to leave the quietness of the on-call room to get back to work.
āIāll see you after the shift, right?ā He asks, holding onto my waist softly and I nod smiling up at him.
āOf courseā¦ You still owe me a cuddle session from the scare you gave me todayā¦ā I say smiling softly, pecking his lips gently one last time before walking out to the ER, feeling a lot better after having this conversation with him and suddenlyā¦ This shift isnāt as shitty.

As we walk back to his car, I canāt help but notice how different he looks in a suit. In a good way, the suit makes him look more serious and a hell of a lot more handsome. I still canāt believe I agreed to this, we walked to his car, talking about how the day went and how excited we are for the race on Sunday. When we reach the car, he opens the door for me like the gentleman he is, I sit in the passenger seat already feeling the anxiety filling my stomach, when he sits next to me I canāt stop the comment from coming out:
āSoā¦ Itās kind of unusual for a team principal to be free on the evening of a race weekendā¦ā I try to keep the question I really wanted to ask hidden in between the lines: āHow come youāre free on the Friday of a race weekend?ā He laughs softly, I guess he caught on to the underlying question I made:
āWell letās just say I had something more important to do than to stay in boring dinners and interviews today.ā He says, focusing on the road, I realize that heās saying going out with me is more important than the boring schedule of a team principal:
āWaitā¦ You cleared your schedule for thisā¦?ā I ask confused about why heād cancel his meetings for a girl he just met:

Only then I realize that I donāt know where weāre going, but I donāt care. I spent the next few minutes of the drive trying to calm down the butterflies he woke up in my stomach and to soothe the warm feeling on my cheeks. I havenāt felt this way since I first went out with Carlos and itās scary. What if I get my heart broken again? What if he judges me for having already dated someone from the paddock? Guess Iām going to have to find out, since it seems we have finally reached our destination and itās one of those fancy restaurants that guides always recommend to tourists.
At the front door the hostess asks if we have a reservation and Iām surprised when James says that he has a reservation in place, the hostess guides us to our desk on one of the corners of the restaurant, not hidden away, but still private. I feel the butterflies again and try to fight my smile, that shows me how different James and Carlos really are. Carlos always made sure our dates were hidden away, in places no one would recognize us and Jamesā¦ James just proved to be the complete opposite of Carlos, he brought me to a good restaurant, got us a good table and he even pulled my chair for me. I sat and he gently pushed the chair to a comfortable distance from the table and seats in front of me.
The hostess comes back with our menus and waters, we thank her and I start skimming through the menu to see what sounds interesting to me:
āI heard that the steak here is divine.ā James says, smiling at me through the menu, his eyes shining and crinkling on the edges. That encourages me to smile back at him:
āWell then I guess Iāll have to listen to your advice and get the steakā¦ā I say, smiling back at him, already feeling my stomach flutter again, we close the menus and he places our order with our waiter who takes away our menus politely and notes down our order. I take this quiet moment to start a conversation with him:
āSo umā¦ How are you feeling about Sunday?" I ask feeling a little awkward, God Iām terrible at small talk, I wish George was here, heād know exactly what to ask, James laughs softly, but answers my question:
āMyā¦ I feel like Iām in one of those boring interviews, but to answer your questionā¦ Weāre feeling a little confident, since we got a good position on the practice today, hopefully our luck will follow us into Sunday.ā I laugh as well, feeling my cheeks burning at the stupid question I asked:
āSorryā¦ I couldnāt think of anything else to askā¦ā I say laughing, trying to hide my embarrassment:
āOh so let me ask you a better questionā¦ Why do you avoid the Williamsā garage like the devil is living there?ā He asks smiling, itās clear he doesnāt know the answer, otherwise he wouldnāt have asked, but I oblige and answer, if Iām going to give him a chance I better do it right:
āWellā¦ Technically Iām avoiding one of your drivers, Carlosā¦ I dated his cousin for a while last season, but he umā¦ It didnāt work outā¦ā I say, avoiding the real reason we broke up since I donāt want it to seem like Iām trash talking Carlos (even though I constantly trash talk about him with George):
āAahā¦ So itās you that Carlos mentioned a few timesā¦ā He says as if heās finally connecting the face with the histories he heard about me and Iām hesitant to ask what Carlos said about me, but my curiosity speaks louder and I ask:
āHe umā¦ He mentioned me? Whyā¦? I meanā¦ What could he possibly say about meā¦?ā I ask laughing weakly, failing successfully in trying to hide how much it bothers me that Carlos was talking about me:
āNothing bad essentially, he simply mentioned that his cousin was going out with someone that was much younger than him and that he felt bad for this poor individual, since they were apparently clueless to the kind of guy his cousin is.ā He says, shrugging as if it was the most normal thing to say to someone, but I was speechless, I've been avoiding the Williamsā in fear of bumping into Carlos, fearing he might judge me for dating his cousin when in reality he felt bad for what his cousin did to me:
āIā¦ I didnāt expect thatā¦ I thought heād take his cousinās side, honestly.ā I say laughing softly, trying to hide how relieved I felt. He laughs with me and we fall into a nice conversation, heās really nice and this date is going really well. Almost an hour later weāre eating our steak, which were indeed divine, when we hear a loud commotion on the door of the restaurant, someone is yelling, practically shouting at the poor hostess for the long wait, James turns around to see whatās going on and when the hostess one step to the side we realize whoās at the hostessā stand causing this huge scene, Carlos OƱoro Sainz, my ex, and the girl he cheated on me with.
My eyes widen in surprise and for just a second our eyes meet and I notice the realization in his eyes when he sees me and James, suddenly his anger isnāt targeted at the hostess anymore, now heās trying to push past security, yelling at me every insult he can, trying to make me feel bad for going on a date, when heās literally on a date with the girl he cheated on me with. I lower my head feeling embarrassed that the whole restaurant is now looking at me and James:
āIām sorryā¦ Iām sure this isnāt what you were hoping for on a first dateā¦ā I say, hiding my face into my hands, fighting the sting behind my eyes of the tears of anger forming:
āDonāt worry about it, heās a jerk anywayā¦ We can get out of here if you want, I know a great ice cream place nearby.ā He says with a soft smile, his hand gently holding onto my wrist, not controlling, not possessive, simply grounding me. I take my hands off my face and give him a faint and weak smile, nodding. He signs to our waiter for the check and pays for the bill entirely and gives the guy a nice tip for having to deal with the scene Carlos is causing. We stand up and he places a comforting hand on my lower back, guiding me to the exit as we thank the hostess and try to ignore Carlos, but he tries to follow us to Jamesā car:
āHey! Already moved on?! Didnāt know it was that easy to get you into bed, Y/N!ā Carlos yells at me, trying to grab my arm, but James is faster and grabs his wrist tightly:
āYou donāt speak to them like that, not to anyone and certainly not in front of me.ā James says seriously, gripping tighter on Carlosā wrist, trying to make his point clear.
āOkay, okayā¦ Geez, I know they look good, but trust me. You donāt want this one, theyāreā¦ Inexperienced, if you know what I mean.ā Carlos says, trying to embarrass me for my lack of knowledge on the only department that mattered to him, the bedroom.
āSo? You say that like itās a bad thing, inexperience isnāt a bad thing, it just means they were focusing on more important matters than something as stupid as that.ā James says annoyed as if the mere thought of what Carlos said is ridiculous and infuriating to him, Carlos scoffs, pulling his wrist from James angrily and when we think heās about to say something he simply grumbles a āwhateverā under his breath walking back to his date that was left by the entrance of the restaurant.
As they walk away from the restaurant we can still hear her yelling at him about being left at the door of the restaurant and how embarrassing it is that he didnāt make a reservation. Me and James hear that and we try to hide our laughter, but itās basically impossible as we look at each other. After a good laugh out of this we decide that itās getting late and that itās best if we head back to the hotel, since the quali will be very early on the next day.
He drove us back to the hotel, his hand gently holding mine. Even after we left the car and he insisted on walking me to my room, he still held my hand. When we reach my room, I say almost sad that the date is over:
āWellā¦ This is my stopā¦ā I smile at him, holding my hands in front of my body:
āI guess it isā¦ See you tomorrow or are you going to continue to avoid walking past the Williamsā garage?ā He asks, laughing quietly through his nose, I try to stop the laughter that bubbles in my chest, but it was impossible:
āIāll definitely see you tomorrow, Jamesā¦ Tonight was greatā¦ā I say smiling at him softly, taking a hesitant step towards him. When he doesnāt pull away, instead he takes a step closer to me, I place a hand on his chest softly and kiss his cheek softly. He laughs softly, but respects the boundary I set with him:
āGood night, Y/Nā¦ā He whispers softly given our proximity:
āGood night, Jamesā¦ I had a lot of fun tonightā¦ Reallyā¦ā I whisper back, smiling widely, no longer hiding the happiness or the butterflies heās giving me. He takes a hesitant step back and starts heading for the elevator to go to his room, but every few steps he looks back at me.
Once he reaches the elevator, I open the door to my room and walk inside, I turn on the light and almost scream when I realize that George is sitting on my bed:
āI shouldnāt even tell you anything after you almost scared me to death.ā I say laughing, but I sit next to him and tell him everything about the date, safe to say we went to sleep late after a full night of gossiping.

Iām taking a walk with my closest friend on the paddock, George, heās currently giving me an earful for taking the longest route to the Mercedesā garage, since I donāt want to go anywhere near Williamsā garage:
āY/N, you canāt avoid Carlos forever, some day you're going to have to face him.ā He says riding on his scooter, practically glaring at anyone who steps in front of his way, I laugh when some poor intern almost makes him fall when he tries to swerve. āIām serious, if weāre late again for a meeting Toto might kill us.ā He says when I stop laughing.
āOkay, okay, youāre rightā¦ Itās justā¦ It was already bad enough that his cousin was dating someone basically his age, but the fact that his cousin cheated on meā¦ Itās humiliating, George, like with a capital H.ā I say, sighing loudly, running my fingers through my hair as if thatāll fix all of my problems.
āI warned you thoughā¦ But did you listen to me? No, because why would you? Itās not like I know every gossip to be known in the paddock.ā He says mocking me, I turn around to face him, starting to walk backwards. Making silly faces to tease him, he starts laughing, but then:
āY/N, watch out!ā He yells, but itās too late, my back is hitting someoneās broad chest, the strangerās hands hold onto my shoulder to make sure I donāt fall:
āSorry, Iām sorry. I shouldāve been looking ahead.ā I say turning around, trying to ignore Georgeās laugh as he continues going forward, leaving me with the handsome stranger, his dark blonde hair, dark eyes, soft stubble on his face, wrinkles adorning around his eyes and his smile, just when I notice his smile is when I realize he probably asked me something, my cheeks burn with embarrassment, I cough and ask:
āSorryā¦ What was the question?ā I try to muster a sweet smile, trying to hide just how much this 40 something years old man is swaying with my feelings already.Ā
āI asked you name, sweetheart.ā He asks smiling, now that his hands have let go of my arms, he crosses them in front of his chest, his biceps filing so nicely the empty spaces of the sleeve of his button up shirt.
āUmā¦ Iām Y/N, Iāmā¦ I work at Mercedesā¦ Director of the Legal Team. And I donāt think I caught your name.ā I say, trying to sound as smooth as I can, which probably wasnāt a lot, since he laughed softly and I realized I really want to hear that sound more often.
āJames, sweetheart. Williamsā team principal.ā He says and I feel all my hopes and dreams get crushed, I shake his hand and mutter an excuse for being late to a meeting and hurry away from the most handsome man Iāve seen in a while.
When I reach Mercedesā garage, everyone is smiling at me like they know something I donāt and I slowly walk to the meeting room, where Toto, Susie, George and Kimi are waiting for me.
āDid I miss anything important? Iām sorry for being late, someone left me all alone on the way here.ā I say glaring at George, as he stares at everything but me, pretending Iām not in the room.
āOh donāt worry, Y/N. George filled us in on your littleā¦ Mishap with James.ā Susie says, smiling at me as if I told her that we just won the championship. As I look around the room confused, George finally decides to fill me in on the joke of the moment.
āSoā¦ I mightāve told them that you had the most romantic moment with James andā¦ They approve.ā He says, smiling like he had just given me the best news ever. I look at him like heās crazy.
āGeorge, there was no āromantic momentā. I bumped into him and that is it.ā I say putting the documents on the desk to start the meeting, but Kimi seems to have other plans.
āJames is singleā¦ If youāre wondering.ā Kimi says giving me that sweet boy smile he has, I sigh loudly knowing my friends wonāt drop this unless I give them a real answer.Ā
āGuys, nothing will happenā¦ Iām taking a break from relationships after myā¦ Fiasco with Carlos OƱoro Sainz. Besides heās Carlosā boss, itād be weird to be with his boss right after his cousin cheated on meā¦ And besides, he doesn't even seem interested in meā¦ā I say trying to hide my disappointment.
āY/Nā¦ Iāve known James for a while and from what George saidā¦ Heās interested, you should give it a chanceā¦ Who knowsā¦? Something good could come out of this.ā Toto says, giving me one of his knowing smiles.
āThanks, bossā¦ Iāll think about it, for now can we justā¦ Focus on the meeting?ā I ask, trying to get this over with so I can go back to my hotel, order a huge tub of ice cream and watch corny movies to forget today happened.
Iām so focused on the documents that I donāt even realize that Kimi took my phone from my briefcase, nor do I notice his quiet conversation with George as they do something on my phone, but Susie and Toto notice and theyāre amused by this. After the meeting they put my phone back on the briefcase and I start gathering the documents, George approaches me with a look on his face that tells me he did something:
āWhat could you possibly have done? We were at this meeting for hoursā¦ā I say scratching my forehead annoyed at this antics.
āWellā¦ Letās just say someone has a date today thanks to me and Kimi.ā He says smiling with a wide smile, glancing between me and my briefcase.
āNoā¦ You wouldnāt, George, Iāll kill you.ā I say rummaging through my briefcase, desperately looking for my phone, when I unlock it, thereās a conversation open with James and the last message he sent read:
āIāll pick you up from the garage, what you were wearing was perfect and I canāt wait to see you. ;)ā My jaw drops and I really consider killing George, whoās still smiling at me like an idiot.Ā
āThank me later, pretty stuff, go woo your man.ā He says, smiling like his life isnāt on the line here, I take a look outside of the meeting room into the garage and James is already there waiting, how did he already know the meeting was over, when I hear a squeal from behind me, I connect the dots, Susie and Toto mustāve told him.
āWeāve been trying to set him up with someone for months and youāre the first person heās shown real interestā¦ Come on, Iāll help you get a little more fixed up for the date.ā Susie says, pushing me into the bathroom to fix my hair, throw some water on my face and try my best to make this clothes look even a little less like a āIām ready for workā and more like āIām so ready for this dateā.Ā
After a few good minutes, I walk out of the meeting room to find James leaning on the wall waiting for me and he looks even more handsome at night, the moon gives him a sharper edge that I hadnāt noticed before.
āReady for the date, sweetheart?ā He says, offering me his arm like a gentleman. I hold his arm softly, while trying to contain the burning sensation on my cheeks, I start laughing softly:
āI thought I already told you my nameā¦ā I say, trying to keep my voice steady, but just by looking into his eyes I already know Iām doomed.
āYou did, but sweetheart suits you moreā¦ Sweetheart.ā He says, smiling at me like heās enjoying this banter between us, he starts guiding me outside and I already start to feel like I owe Kimi and George a thanks, those stupid cupids.

Author's note: Finally on break from college, now that my first year is finally done and I'm accustomed to the studying schedule, I might be able to write more constantly (Hopefully). lol
Iām sitting in Jamesā office waiting for him to get out of the meeting. It's taking longer than usual, so I start playing on my phone to pass the time. I look up from my phone a few minutes later when I hear footsteps towards the office, James opens the door and practically slams it closed:
āWoah, whatās gotten you in such a bad mood?ā I ask, smiling at him softly, trying to lighten the mood.Ā He sighs loudly:
āTheyā¦ Theyāreā¦ I canāt even begin to explain how fucking angry I am right now.āĀ He says pacing around the office, hands clenching on his side, trying to contain his anger.
āWhat did they say? Come on, sit downā¦ Take a deep breath.ā I say, losing the smile when I realize heās really upset with what happened in the office, gently guiding him to sit on the couch thatās in the office.
āIā¦ I canāt say it, but it's justā¦ Itās utterly ridiculous what theyāre doing, seriously, itāsā¦ Itās likeā¦ Like they donāt even care about the wellbeing of the-ā He starts rambling and when I realize heās nowhere near getting something comprehensive out, I cup both of his cheeks gently enough that he can pull away in case he wants to and place a chaste kiss on his lips.Ā
When I pull away and look into his eyes, theyāre already looking at me with so much love and tenderness. His hands that were on his lap went around my waist, hugging me gently and kissing my neck softly.Ā
He starts kissing his way up my neck towards my lips and he kisses me just as gently, trying to use those kisses to calm himself down. We hear the door open, then two loud comical screams come from it and we pull away from each other, my hands on his shoulder, looking at the door startled. We find Logan and Alex by the door:
āMY EYES! OH, MY EYES!ā Logan screams, covering his eyes.Ā
āWHY?! BY GOD, WHY?!ā Alex yells afterwards, falling on his knees dramatically.
āMy God, boysā¦ Youāre so dramatic, you couldāve knockedā James says, covering his blushing face embarrassed.
āIām traumatized, I donāt know how Iāll ever look you two in the eyes again.ā Logan dramatically says, pretending to wipe some inexistent tears from his eyes. I laugh loudly at that, covering my mouth when James scowls at me, but I can see that heās also trying to fight his laughter.
āCome on, kids. We werenāt doing anything.ā I say standing up from the couch and helping Alex stand up from the ground, laughing through my teeth.Ā
āWe came to check on you, bossā¦ We heard it was a tough meeting.ā Alex says, looking at James whoās still covering his face.
āYou boys donāt have to worry about it, Iāll try to fix everything before the race, you two focus on resting and feeling ready for the race.ā James says, standing up and placing a gentle hand on the bottom of my back.Ā
āGo on, kids. Iām sure the big boss won't mind if you go get ice cream.ā I say laughing, noticing that James really doesnāt want to talk about that, the two younger boys look at each other and then:
āIāM GETTING THERE FIRST!ā They both yell at the same time, running to their cars.
āI canāt believe theyāre 20 something years oldā I say laughing, looking up at James to find him smiling at me tenderly.Ā
āThank you, honeyā¦ā He whispers as if itās a secret no one can hear, kissing my forehead softly.
āAnytime, handsomeā¦ Now letās go, I made myself crave ice cream by mentioning it.ā I say laughing with him, we both walk to the parking lot slowly, only to find both driversā cars gone. āTheyāre really fast for two traumatized kids.ā I say laughing, bringing out a laugh from James.
āCome on, you want to go to the usual place, sweetheart?ā He says smiling at me softly, opening the passenger door for me.
āYes, please, honeyā I say smiling at him, as he walks around the car and gets on the driverās seat, starting the car and placing a soft hand on my leg as we drive off to my favorite ice cream, I know deep down he might not tell me why he was so frustrated after the meeting, but he willā¦ Eventually when heās ready.

It had been a while since James had more than a day to just be home. No rushing off, no endless calls, no schedule to chase. Just us, the kids, and a sunny afternoon. So we decided to make the most of it with something simple: a little family barbecue in the backyard.
James, naturally, took over the grill. He always insisted on being in charge of it ā apron on, tongs in hand, moving around with the kind of focus that made me laugh.
I stretched out on the lounge chair by the pool, sunglasses shielding my eyes as I watched the kids. They had gathered around the hose and a bag of balloons, whispering and giggling like little conspirators. It didnāt take a genius to know what they were planning.
I smiled to myself. As long as they werenāt aiming for me, I wasnāt about to stop them.
James must have noticed too, because he called over without looking up from the grill. āYouāre not going to say anything?ā
āNope,ā I said simply, tilting my head back. āIām choosing peace today.ā
Peace lasted all of five minutes.
A balloon shot across the garden and burst against the grill with a dramatic splat. Water splashed up Jamesās arm, and the kids froze, wide-eyed, waiting for his reaction.
James turned slowly, eyebrows raised. āOhā¦ I see how it is.ā
The children screamed and ran before he even moved, laughter echoing through the yard. But James was already reaching for the hose.
I sat up, laughing. āDonāt you dare!ā
Too late. The first spray shot across the lawn, catching one of the kids square on the back. More squeals, more running, and before long James was chasing them with the kind of determination that only comes from pure mischief.
Within minutes, everyone was soaked. The kids teamed up against him, shrieking with laughter as they managed to land a few balloons. I got caught in the chaos too, my chair dripping wet, my shirt clinging to my skin.
James jogged past me, hair plastered to his forehead, grinning like a teenager. āBest barbecue ever,ā he said breathlessly, before aiming the hose right at me.
āJAMES!ā I yelped, too late to escape the spray.
The kids howled with laughter, James laughed until his sides hurt, and even I couldnāt keep a straight face.
The food might have gotten cold, but our house was filled with giggles, squeals, and the kind of happiness that only comes from being together.
And honestly, I wouldnāt have had it any other way.

Another race weekend. Another few days without my husband.
I was just about to settle into the familiar rhythm of missing him when my phone buzzed ā George Russell, of all people.
āHey, I have an idea,ā he said, his voice brimming with mischief. āHow do you feel about surprising your husband on Sunday? In Azerbaijan?ā
I didnāt even hesitate. āSay less. Iām in.ā
Cue me, frantically packing a small overnight bag for me and (b/n), who is basically a tiny clone of their father ā same eyes, same stubborn chin, same ability to make my heart melt. Every time I look at them, I fall in love with my husband all over again.
By Friday, the guilt started creeping in. He tried to call. Of course he did. But I knew I couldnāt keep a straight face if I heard his voice ā heād know something was up immediately. So, I let the call go to voicemailā¦ and then againā¦ and again.
Saturday, we landed in Baku. The city was stunning, but my heart raced every time my phone lit up with another call or message. His texts were starting to sound anxious, and I hated making him worry. But I knew the surprise would be worth it. He needed this. We needed this.
By Sunday morning, George pulled up in a sleek car to take us to the paddock. He glanced over at me, worry written all over his face as he drove.
āSoā¦ Bonoās been off this whole weekend,ā he said. āNot picking up his calls? That hit him hard.ā
My chest ached, but I smiled down at (b/n), who looked adorable in their custom-made Mercedes onesie ā our last name printed proudly on the back.
āHeās going to forgive me the second he sees this face,ā I said, gently booping our babyās nose.

The garage was buzzing with pre-race chaos, but my husband? He was off to the side, pacing like a man on the verge of a breakdown. I could hear him talking to Lewis' dog ā who, somehow, had wandered into the garage.
āWhat if sheās tired of me?ā he muttered. āTired of always being alone, tired of this life. What am I supposed to do without her? Sheās my light, my whole damn worldā¦ā
George barely stifled a laugh before calling out, āDude, if you miss your wife so much, why donāt you go after her?ā
āYouāre right,ā my husband said suddenly, grabbing his things in a panic. āIām flying to her right now. Forget the race.ā
He was this close to walking right past me ā until a little voice piped up:
āDaddy!ā
He froze. His entire body stilled as if heād been struck by lightning.
āDaddy?ā (b/n) repeated, this time with a hint of confusion.
He spun around so fast, I swear he nearly gave himself whiplash. His eyes landed on us ā me holding our child, both of us smiling like idiots.
āWhatā? Howā? Is this why you didnāt answer my calls?ā he sputtered, walking toward us like he couldnāt believe we were real.
I laughed, the sound catching in my throat. āGeorge wanted to surprise you. I couldnāt lie to you, so I didnāt pick up. Simple as that.ā
He pulled us both into a tight hug, his hand gently cradling the back of our babyās head. āYou scared me,ā he whispered. āI missed you so much, sweetheart.ā
Then, still holding me, he looked over my shoulder. āDonāt you have a race to run, babe?ā I teased, raising an eyebrow.
His eyes widened. āCrap.ā
A quick kiss on my forehead, a soft smile, and then he was all business again ā slipping back into race mode with practiced ease. And honestly? Watching him in his element, so focused and passionateā¦ yeah, it was ridiculously attractive.
I sat in the garage with (b/n) snuggled on my lap, grinning like a fool the entire race. Win or lose, I didnāt care. I was just happy to be there ā with him.
After the race, he debriefed with George and Kimi, but the second it was over, he made a beeline for us.
āReady to go?ā he asked, a twinkle in his eye.
āWhere are we going?ā I asked, wrapping one arm around his waist while balancing (b/n) on the other.
āWell,ā he said, his smile softening, āyouāre not flying home until Monday, and I finally have a few hours offā¦ thought we could try this little restaurant I heard about.ā
He opened the car door for me, as he always did, then carefully buckled our child into their seat. Gentle. Thoughtful. The same man I fell in love with.
And in that moment, I knew ā no matter how many races, how many weekends apart, no matter how far this life takes us ā heāll always be mine.
The man who missed me like hell, and still looks at me like Iām his whole world.

We walk back to the office. As I walked through the paddock, simply looking around, nowhere to go nor to be at the moment, Iām waiting for James to finish an interview about his expectations on this weekendās race. I was walking with earphone, so I didnāt hear Alonsoās warning to leave the way of his scooter, but the only thing I fell is two strong arms wrapping around me and pulling me into a strong chest, my head collides with the chest, instantly Iām filled with a comforting scent that I recognize without needing to look up, my arms instinctively wrap around him: āThank you for saving me.ā I whisper to him before kissing his cheek softly and resting my face on his shoulder: āHoneyā¦ I love you, I would never let anything happen to you, my princess.ā He kissed my forehead softly, his lips staying there for a second before he showed me that handsome smile I fell in love with, I smiled back at him lovingly. Then we hear the cameras clicking and we remember where we are, he wraps only one arms around my waist and starts guiding me to his office so we can have some privacy to talk before going home.

He told me on our wedding day in his vows that he also knew the moment I didnāt blame him for our date being āruinedā by the rain that I was the one for him, in his words: āThat day, I knew I had found my soulmate, the one I thought only existed in fairytales, the one I would gladly look for in every life. My one and only, my princess.ā

I was in the teamās garage the moment I saw Checo crash, in a fraction of a second what was a happy day, ended up with me and him going to the hotel early, the drive home was silent, Sergio was staring out the window and I was driving, it was a strange moment. I donāt recall a moment where Checo and I werenāt talking and it made me feel weird, thankfully the drive wasnāt that long and as soon as I parked the car he was out of it, walking fast towards the elevator, I tried following him, but he was going so fast, I ended up riding the elevator alone and once I reached our room and entered it, I immediately noticed that the bathroom door was closed, I closed the front door and placed a āDo not disturbā plate and knocked softly on the bathroom door: āCheco, honeyā¦ Are you in there?ā I asked gently, it was a stupid question since I could hear his soft sobs from outside the bathroom: āIām okay, Y/Nā¦ā He say weakly and I sat myself with my back against the wall next to the door: āItās okay to not be okay, darlingā I said, trying my best to comfort him through the door.
āI know sweetie, but not for meā¦ I screwed up, I canāt screw upā¦ā He said, his voice getting more and more strained from the crying: āHoneyā¦ Who said that? Everyone is allowed to screw up every once in a whileā¦ Weāre humansā¦ Now, can you please unlock the door? I feel bad that youāre all alone in that bathroomā I say gently, waiting a few moments and then I heard it, the door was unlocked but he didnāt open it. So, slowly I started to open it.
Inside I found a scene that made my heart clench, Checo holding his knees close to his chest to hide his face and his tears from me: āIām sorryā¦ā He apologized, for what Iām not sure: āWhy are you apologizing my dear?ā I ask sitting in front of him in that cramped bathroom: āI screwed up, I always screw upā¦ā He said, hugging his knees closer to himself.
āHoneyā¦ Thereās nothing to apologize for, the car malfunctioned, it couldāve happened to anyoneā¦ā I say softly, resting one hand on his knee, he raises his head and I finally see his face, tear stained: āBut it didnāt, these types of things never happen to Max, itās likeā¦ I donāt know, I think my time has passed andā¦ IāmĀ not cut out for F1 anymoreā¦ā He said, forcefully wiping his tears: āStopā¦ Honey, what happened today wasnāt your fault, the car was fuckedā¦ And thatās that, yes it didnāt happen to Max, but it couldāveā¦ Iām just glad youāre okay and that youāre not hurtā I say gently, pulling his hands away from his face with one hand and with my free hand I wipe softly his tears and cup his tear stained cheek, looking deep into his eyes, hoping to reach that dark place that the insecurity had installed itself. He looked down and then: āIāve seen the commentsā¦ From when Red Bull re-hired Danielā¦ Most people say theyād rather see those two in the carā¦ That I shouldnāt be in the car anymore, that Max and Daniel are a better fitā¦ And I wonder, what if they were right? What ifā¦ Iām not cut out to race next to Max? What if I donāt belong to Red Bullā¦? what if-ā He started spiralling and I cut him off: āStopā¦ Those comments are wrong, all they see is the energy those two have andā¦ Itās not your job to match that energy every dayā¦ Iāve seen a few videos, honeyā¦ Red Bull is where you belongā¦ Itās made you stronger and better, not that you werenāt strong beforeā¦ But it just made you even strongerā¦ Youāre the strongest man Iāve knownā¦ You endure so much from the team and from the fansā¦ Youāre amazing and I love you for that.ā I say kissing his cheek softly, I pull away just in time to see his eyes tearing up once more and he pulls me into a tight hug, itās a little awkward but I wouldnāt dare refuse him a hug right now. Once I took his hand and stood up in front of him. He hugged me one last time: āThank youā¦ For being supportive andā¦ For respecting my decisionā¦ For being this amazing person you areā¦ I love you.ā He said holding me closer to him, we left the bathroom and decided to have a night in, we ordered takeout and watched a movie, cuddled up in the hotel bed, that night I realised Checo was truly the strongest person I know, he endured so much in silence, but now everything was better and heād be okay, weād be okay, because we have each other, so as long as it stays like that weāll be okay.

We were all hiding for the surprise party, James was supposed to get home in a few minutes. I know he said he didnāt want me to make a big deal out of it, but itās been a whole year since he started at Williams and heās been so happy, I had to do something to celebrate it.
I heard his car parking in our garage and him coming up to the door, once he unlocked it, entered the house and turned on the lights everyone came out from their hiding spots, I was hiding in the kitchen with a cake for him, putting the cake on the table so I can hug him, once I reach him and wrap my arms around hm congratulating him for the one year in Wlliams he whispers in my ear smiling lovingly at me: āYouāre so lucky youāre cute.ā I smile back at him, we then go cut the cake so everyone can enjoy a slice, I ended up inviting everyone i could from Williams, both Alex and Logan confirmed theyād come and after me they were the first ones to hug James, he seemed very happy to see everyone here and we spent the next few hours talking to everyone.Ā
Once it started to get late everyone started bidding their goodbyes and hugging James congratulations a last time and soon enough we were alone.

Even if you donāt listen sometimesā He says smiling at me lovingly, pulling me into his arms and we start swaying to the rhythm of the music, my head resting on his shoulder and his on top of mine. We stay there until the music ends, then we just stand there, hugging each other for a little while longer. Once we finally decide to let go of each other, we keep holding hands as we walk up the stairs to sleep for the night, today was a good day and tomorrow will be even better, because weāll be together, so every next day will be better than the last.

James tried convincing me that I didnāt need to go, but I did. It was a very important race and I could see how important it was for him. It was always important to have me around, but heās been getting more and more anxious with the races. I insisted I would go, he insisted I wouldnāt and now we are in the car on the way to the paddock. In my hands I had a box of tissues and some medication: āHoney, youāre staying in my office, Iāll warm it up to help with the fever.ā He said already worried about me: āJames, sweetheartā¦ Iāve had the flu before, Iāll be okay, I want to watch the race by your side.ā I say leaving the car once he parked, feeling a little light headed so I lean on the car, he comes around worried, checking my fever with the back of his hand and getting a tissue to clean my runny nose as I tried to not pass out: āHoneyā¦ I told you, you didnāt need to come, itāll be another common race.ā He tried to convince me to go back to the hotel.
āIām not leavingā¦ Iām fineā¦ā I said weakly as I stand up from the car, feeling everything around me fade, it felt as if I was floating for a second, but before I could reach the ground, James caught me in his arms, resting my head on his shoulder as he carried me inside: āSince I canāt convince you to go, Iāll see if I can do something about me taking care of everything from my office, itās too hot out here for youā¦ā He said, laying me on the small couch he had in his office, leaving the room for no more than five minutes. He came back with a notebook and some earphones: āI got permission to do everything from here, I'm glad they could understand the situationā¦ā He said sitting down close to me, I sat up only to rest myself against him, my head on his shoulder as I tried to keep up with everything that was on the screen.
In my half-asleep state, all I could understand is that Alex was in third and once the race ended, he managed to get second place, the guys came in the room to call James to go celebrate, but once they opened the door they found me asleep on his shoulder as he ran his fingers through my hair, they left without making a sound. James and I left a little later, he carried me to the car, laid down the seat so I could continue sleeping and before he drove us home, he made a quick stop at my favorite fast food and ordered me my comfort food. He knows it helps me feels better when Iām sick, he then drove us home and only woke me up once we were already inside and I laid in our bed comfortably, in my pajamas that consisted in an old Williams shirt of his that I found and my comfort food next to the bed, he kissed my forehead and we ate the food, watched a movie and went to bed, I woke up feeling a lot better but once I heard a cough coming from James, I looked at him apologetically, I had gotten him sick: āIāll take care of you, I promiseā I said, giving him a gentle kiss on the cheek as I went to grab the medicine and get started on breakfast.Ā

Another race that started with Max being first, that by itself had already made Toto stressed, but the fact that not even 20 laps into the race and Magnussenās tyres exploded causing him to hit the walls and hit Lewisās car, thankfully neither of them were hurt, but we needed to take Lewisās car back in if we wanted him to finish the race. I could see Totoās knuckles getting white from how much force he was putting in keeping his hand closed, most likely to stop himself from exploding and screaming at Lewis for something that wasnāt his fault, slowly I walk closer to him, gently resting one hand onto his back and offering the other one for him to hold, he looked at it considering his options, he could not hold my hand but he might had ended up hurting his hand from how much force he was using, so he decided to hold my hand, much more gentler than he was holding his own, but it was visible how much just holding my hand helped, to add to the comfort list I started rubbing my hand up and down his back, being always gentle with him.Ā
Lewis and his car reached the pit stop and while the car was getting checked over by the mechanicals me and Toto insisted on Lewis getting checked by the paramedics. We didnāt want him to continue racing today if he got hurt, thankfully they cleared him, no major injuries, just a few scrapes.Ā
The car got cleared to go back into the race, we left it up to Lewis, if he felt like he was good to drive for the remaining of the race,his answer was to basically grab his helmet and jump back into the car, and then he was back on the race, Toto was helping George get into a higher position, at this moment George had went from the 16th place up to the 10th, which was pretty good, Lewis was climbing up the positions quickly, Toto held my hand a little tighter feeling a little anxious about today, but I have a good feeling so I look at him and give his hand a comforting squeeze, to let him know i was still here for him, he smiled gently at our intertwined hands and went back into focusing on bringing those kids to the podium, with 5 laps remaining Lewis was on 5th and George was on 6th, they were helping each other climb up. We were on the edge of the seat and the rac finally ended, Lewis and George had managed to get up to the 1st and 2nd place, it was only celebration, they brought the champagne the United Kingdom flag and we started hugging each other, Toto turned to me instantly once the checkered flag waved and he hugged me so tightly he brought me off the ground, soon enough we had hugged everyone, at the podium the boys hugged and held the trophies together, it was only celebration the whole night and the next day as well, we were all still pretty happy that we won that happiness lasted us throughout the whole week.

Once I hear him opening the door to his friends I reach under the bed and pull out something I prepared for him, my plan is to tell him Iām pregnant by giving his this small Red Bull onesie, our last name and his car number on the back, I put the onesie on the box I bought, taped a small card saying that we are pregnant and together with those things I put the last few things, like the positive pregnancy test and a miniature of the car like it was a toy for the child. Once itās all wrapped up I hide the gift behind my back and go downstairs to give it to Checo.
Finally downstairs I said hi to his friends, a few from Red Bull and some who aren't, I believe he invited Carlos, Daniel, Max, Alonso and Vettel, and they all brought their girlfriends or wifes. Once everyone was greeted, I asked Checo to sit down so I could hand him his gift. He sits down on the couch a little confused but obliges by closing his eyes and putting his hands out, I place the gift box a little nervously on his hands. Then he opened his eyes and looked at me confused, I shrugged and he started undoing the bow I made, once he removed the cover and read the words āWeāre pregnant!ā in bold letters I could see small tears forming in his eyes, he took the onesie from the box and started yelling from happiness: āIām going to be a dad!ā His friends all patted him on the back as congratulations and their WAGās came to hug me congratulating me as well. Once the initial shock from the news passed we continued on with dinner as we had planned, after everyone left.
Me and Checo laid down in bed before going to sleep, he insisted on talking to the baby before sleeping even after I explained that the baby wouldnāt hear him to which he responded with: āIām her father, sheāll listen to meā I giggled gently, running my fingers through his hair as he spent the next hour talking to the baby, I didnāt have the heart to tell him that it was too early for him to be so certain that theyād be a girl, but surely enough once I was with 18 weeks and we managed to schedule the ultrasound to know the gender, the doctor told us that the baby was a little girl, that day Checo spent almost three hours online looking for cute outfits for the baby and a few merchandise that he could get for her, the baby wasnāt even born but she already had her father wrapped around her finger, one thing Iām certain of is that sheāll love him very much, every time she hears his voice she starts kicking like crazy, these two will be inseparable.
