My Thoughts On Drew Afualo's Podcast
So if you've been on TikTok or even Twitter, I'm sure you've probably seen some of the clips floating around from the podcast that Drew Afualo did with ER where they discussed who knows what and womanhood. And here are my thoughts:
This is actually my first time encountering Drew Afualo and my last, so I'm sure based off that you can already tell how I feel about what she said and what rhetoric she's been spewing since. From the clips I've seen, both of them are about slow as hell. ER saying, and I quote, "Your womanhood is not your ability to be sexually assaulted," is... 🫠. Because let's be so honest, literally no one, no biological woman, has ever thought that she is a woman solely because she is able to be SA'd. Not to mention that men, women, children, and even animals can be sexually assaulted, so I'm not quite sure what they thought they were doing when they said that besides just being plain ignorant. And this is one of the reasons that everyone doesn't need a podcast mic because then you get opinions like this that make zero fucking sense.
Now onto another issue (on top of many) that I have with this podcast. ER again says something ignorant (now I'm just assuming they are an ignorant POS) and states that "transwomen have a more beautiful understanding of womanhood." Girl, what?
Like, let's be honest, most people transition in their teens, which means that you probably spent ten or so years being treated as a male. So that means you ultimately have a very different experience than people who were born female and continue presenting as one. That is just the truth. And it's fine. I don't understand why so many people find this a hard concept to grasp or why you would find it offensive....
This means that you might not necessarily relate to the experiences a lot of young girls have. There are differences between someone who was born female and continues to present as one and someone who was born male and transitions to female. Those differences are periods, PCOS, endometriosis, FGM (in some parts of the world), infertility, etc. And these are things that transwomen will not experience. So I lowkey do understand why ER thinks that because as someone who was born male, you don't have to mention the aforementioned things. So obviously I understand why you would think that you understand womanhood better than a biological woman because you don't have to deal with a lot of the hard parts of being a woman. Now, you do have to deal with the bad parts of being transgender, like that our president is a bigot and that a lot of people are obsessed with controlling transgender people. But like, I don't understand why speaking on womanhood or how women view womanhood isn't your place?
Now obviously transgender women have their unique experiences that I as a biological woman (probably) cannot relate to, and that's also fine. Everything doesn't have to be a shared experience. Because you have your own view of womanhood, but at the end of theday it isn't a competition, and when you try to make it one, you make it very easy for people to start being transphobic.
Overall, I'm confused on where either of them got any of these ideas from and why they felt the need to regurgitate them.... And since I have a feeling some very sensitive person is going to come across this post, I have already tagged #terf in case you guys accuse me of being one, even if that's a label I don't identify with.
