Hey so remember how grocery prices suddenly jackknifed during lockdown and never went back down?
Well turns out the companies would have done that shit either way and had been steadily price-fixing for the last decade!
Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson just announced more than $40 million in court-ordained Fuck You money from massive swaths of food production companies are to be paid out to households earning at or below 175% of the federal poverty level ($25.5k for 1 person, $34.5k for 2 people households) before Dec 31st of this year. Happy Holidays.
"The bottom line here is that my legal team took on two large corporate price-fixing conspiracies that increased the cost for groceries for Washington families. We've prevailed, and as a result, we are sending checks to over 400,000 Washington households."
Cannot stress enough the extent of the conspiracies he's talking about here. 15 out of the total 19 chicken producers got nailed in this lawsuit. Not the total number of conspirators, mind, just the ones who left enough evidence for the AG to kick their ass in so expedient a manner. Make no mistake, all 19 were in on it. The court case against the rest of them has been delayed until October of next year, though. None of them are making it out unscathed.
Tuna didn't escape antitrust horseshit either, because the CEOs of Starkist, Chicken of the Sea, and Bumblebee Tuna had a fucking group chat where they complained that the price of tuna was "too low" and they agreed to artificially inflate the price.
âWhatâs so maddening about the conduct of these companies is the reason that they engaged in this price-fixing conspiracy was greed. They wanted to make money."
So anyway the AG who nailed their asses to the wall and continues to do so is running for governor. If you live in Washington, could be worth your vote when primary season rolls around.
You know, if you don't live in Washington state... think about calling YOUR state attorney general and asking what they intend to do about that information. Are they going to protect citizens in your state? If you, like me, think that watching our pay trickle away in the checkout line is a shit deal... Maybe harass your reps and AGs about it.
The thing is, the more states react to the same information, the more likely that they'll succeed. Governing is no longer happening in federal Congress, so if your state chooses to take action on behalf of its citizens.... well, it's not like it's going to be easily stopped. Class action law is still law. The choices made by the prosecution determine what law is law and what law is simply a hollow effigy of lies. Who keeps the strong accountable to the law?
So I am writing to my state AG. I may also write to members of Congress, on the off chance that there is an avenue of restitution there as well. I want to know: if they can get a breath of refresher cash from their government trying to chase down some money, can I get some from mine? Because fuck! That'd be nice!

Plenty of you have heard about our cityâs own superhero Phoenix Jones, but less have heard about the Mighty Morphin Park Rangers, a group of athletic teens who protect Seattle from eastern washingtonian threats by combining their Bear Zord, Salmon Zord, Eagle Zord, Raccoon Zord, and Douglas Fir Zord into the colossal and mighty CASCADIAZORD!

my nameâs WOMEN, 2004
â¤Happy International Womenâs Dayâ¤
"I wish I could make a game but get other people to do all the art and writing and programming and" you literally can. It's called being the project manager, and all you have to do to get this job is be willing to write all the emails, make all the phone calls, set up and moderate all the group chats, schedule and lead all the meetings, monitor and follow up on all the deadlines, coordinate with all relevant third parties, and personally chase down the answer to every question that anyone might conceivably ask about anything. If that sounds like your idea of a good time, there are any number of projects that would love to have you on board.
(If you're thinking "wait, I've seen lots of indie game projects with nobody doing that job", that's one of the primary reasons most indie game projects with team sizes larger than 3â5 people fail. Without a dedicated PM role, the best you can hope for is that one of your team members is an absolute rock star who's able to do full-time PM work on top of their creative role, and if you're very lucky they manage to stick it out for a couple of projects before they burn out and the team falls apart. In a more typical case, everybody wants to be a creative and nobody does the PM work, and then your Kickstarter campaign gets to be the subject of a wildly speculative what-went-wrong video by a YouTube personality who talks like a Sesame Street character.)
This is so, so true! I've stepped in to so many indie projects that are filled with talent only to ask, "So, who's your PM?" and receive a blank stare as a reply. Those projects do not make it, full stop.
The older I've gotten, and the more teams I work on the more I have learned to appreciate having people who can organize and manage people and operations. Just because you can't draw a stick figure doesn't mean you cant be creative and those skills are sorely needed, and too often overlooked!
This is true in any field and as a people manager, I can say that you must also be comfortable with minor disdain from your team. Some creative types are seriously adverse to being cat-herded. You need to be flexible to their needs but willing to stand firm and be the "adult" in the room when the group is getting off course.
If all goes to plan and the project is successful, they'll most likely thank you later but not everyone is comfortable with that aspect I find.
you can tell a lot about a person by who their first fictional crush was. it also explains every fictional crush theyâve had since
who was yours? iâll go first: mine was batman :x
