4 people died? 52 were arrested?? THERE WERE HUNDREDS!!! This was a blatant act of terrorism, of TREASON; an actual attempt of a coup d'état!! ONLY 52?!!

It's a joke. 2021 started off with a fucking joke. I expected some fucked up shit to happen in the next couple of month. Nothing prepared me to witness what I witnessed. Never have I ever imagined I'd actually witness a motherfucking coup in my lifetime. It never crossed my mind.

Daryl Johnson, senior domestic terrorist analyst at DHS from 2004-2010, started an analysis on domestic terrorism in 2008 under the Bush administration. Despite describing himself as a 3rd generation Republican and conservative himself, Johnson is an expert on right-wing terrorism. And when he researched it in 2008, he found disturbing trends: an increase of domestic terrorist attacks, the formation of anti-government militias, the recruitment of veterans into far-right ideologies. After gathering the data (a difficult task in and of itself, since he was only allowed six workers on the matter), he sounded the alarm in a report titled “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment”.

The problem was, he sounded it in 2009, under the Obama administration. And the right-wing exploded. 

It was propaganda, they said. It was a politically motivated hit piece with zero actual evidence. John Boehner, then Minority Leader, referred to the named terrorists and militia groups as “American citizens who disagree with the direction Washington Democrats are taking our nation.” Most scandalously, the mere implication that veterans could be recruited into extremist groups created a surge of backlash from both Democrats and Republicans. It didn’t matter that Johnson himself was a Republican and Bush appointee, this was clearly all Obama’s fault, his personal attack on the Tea Party. 

The report was pulled. Johnson was disgraced, then fired, along with any who were perceived to have aided him. The task force, small as it was, was gutted, and the office focused solely on Islamic domestic terrorists. It would never fully recover, and the Trump administration would double down hiding reports, slashing funding for anti-domestic terrorist groups, and denying grants for anything that so much as implied that white supremacist terror was rising.

So when all the Republicans come out and say that they condemn the violence, that this came out of nowhere, that they had no idea their party was capable of it, they’re lying. They welcomed them in, called them “disaffected Americans” and fellow conservatives. They coddled occupiers and militants like Clive Bundy and Matt Shea. They hid the extent of their crimes and paid only lip service to condemning them, because their extremism gave them political power.
