Hey Ace, Vincent here. I was a bit curious, given some of the conversations I'd had with him while he was staying at the hotel. Feel free not to answer if it seems too personal as well, but I was curious about how you and Zygarde both felt about L.
From what I have been able to gather, he did some pretty nasty things five years back, but I'm curious how some other folks feel about him.
(Flora's also brought up some similarities between himself and AZ, so I was especially curious for Zygarde's opinion on him.)
Lās that guy who I would always see you following around. Right, Zy?
Ah yes, L, or as I know him, Lysandre. Not many know of his past, but Iām all too familiar with it. He used to be the leader of Team Flare, if that name at all rings a bell. They were an evil organization that originated here in Kalos. Before I intervened, Lysandre and his followers believed all humans are selfish. Their goal was to reduce the number of living beings on the planet, in a sort of ācleansingā. I believe his logic was that if there were less lives, there were less needs to be met, which meant more resources to share. He believed with less greed, there would be less violence, less war, less pain. In a fucked up kind of way⦠I can see it. But his methods were more than unorthodox.
Five years ago, he put his plan into action. He captured Xerneas while it was slumbering, harnessing its Life Energy and using it to power a device known as the āUltimate Weaponā. The Ultimate Weapon has more history to it, dating back to the Great Pokemon War, but I wonāt get too much into that. As for Lysandre, his plan went awry. He was able to fire the ultimate weapon, but it backfired, destroying Team Flareās base and most of Geosenge Town. Iām sure it would have done more damage if it wasnāt for Yveltal and Iās intervention, and the young trainer who delayed Lysandreās plans.
I remember when Team Flareās Headquarters were burning, Yveltal and I entered to rescue Xerneas. It was alive, but not uninjured. And somehow⦠Lysandre lived too. He was on the brink of death, a shell of his former. When confronted with this, Yveltal voted to put him out of his misery. And to my utter surprise, Xerneas agreed. Itās usually much more merciful, but the pain it was put through was undeniable. And as much as I wanted to agree, I just⦠I couldnāt. I begged them to let me help. They were weary at first but ultimately agreed. We agreed that if he were to try to commit another violent act, it would be my job to stop it and mine alone. Even with our agreement, my siblings didnāt let Lysandre get away scot free. Yveltal wiped his memory as an extra safeguard and Xerneas⦠it gave him the same punishment as AZ, the curse of eternal life.
As we left the burning ruins of Geosenge I promised my siblings I would not let them down. And for the next five years, I didnāt let him leave my sight. While I recovered my energy, I also kept Lysandre out of trouble. We had an almost symbiotic relationship. I was his guiding hand and he was my way of communicating with humans.
So that explains why I always saw him with you. And how he seemed to know you wanted something to do with me. Which I mean, he wasnāt wrong. Did you ever tell him, you know⦠about us?
No, he doesnāt need to know. I see him as a student more than anything. I donāt fear him reacting poorly like some have, I just feel itās not his business. As for L himself, Iām unsure how he sees me, whether he feels the same or if he sees me as more motherly. I⦠donāt know how I feel about AZ and Flora compared to myself and L. Perhaps itās the circles Iāve been involving myself in recently, but Flora and AZ seemed to be more involved romantically, so the comparison leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Now that I think of it, youāre right, that would bother me too. But after Ange, Iāve barely seen him at all. Are you not checking in on him anymore? Arenāt you worried he might try something like Team Flare again?
I wouldnāt say I donāt feel like heāll never try it again, but heās made significant progress. He seems more motivated to do good rather than to cause harm. Heās seen the beauty of this world by my side. And now that I have Ace, I feel more confident leaving him to his own devices. Itās not that I wonāt check on him anymore, but the majority of my work with him is done.
