waking this blog up because I start a grad level class this week
me hyper-fixating on a different weird, niche interest every week: should I get my PhD in this?
i have to cope with the fact that as an adult i’m a slow reader but here’s a list of everything i finished this year so far
The Atlas Paradox by Olivie Blake (listened on Audible)
I loved the first book but the others in the series are taking me a bit longer to get through. I’m still a fan though! I find some chapters harder to sit through than others just cause I have my favorite POVs. Still, a more urban fantasy is my jam and I love when magic is incorporated into the real world. Need to finish book three. Currently have 11 hours left.
Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood (Listened to on Spotify)
I can totally understand if her books are not your cup of tea. I find her romances to just be good unserious fun. There are just times when you need to read something a bit silly and Hazelwood hits the spot. Jack Smith is also a dreamboat, which helps.
If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio
Such a good mystery. Good Dark Academia vibes. I truly love Oliver as a character. Was aI annoyed by the constant quoting of Shakespeare? Yes. But that was intentional. As a reformed theater kid, yes, I cringed, but it’s a good reminder that nothing is ever that serious. And maybe you shouldn’t let the drama nerds be isolated. I also really appreciated the exploration of type casting and how it affects actors. Most of it was really subtle, but it’s so ingrained in the theater world that it’s glossed over in real life as well, even if we all know it’s happening.
A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers
LOVE LOVE LOVE This book was such a comfort to me. I have so much anxiety about technology and climate change that the reminder of a possible future where humans make the right decisions was so needed. I feel like I read it at the perfect time.
me coming up with the idea: this chapter is going to be so cool. this chapter will make my entire point. this chapter will be so unexpected but readers will love it
me writing the idea: this chapter is a fucking mess and this character is a LITTLE BITCH

whoever invented registering for classes in college wanted college students dead
I. HATE. IN-TEXT. CITATIONS.
Not just when I'm writing a paper, but when I'm READING a textbook it looks SO messy (Rick-Astley, 1969, p. 420) and it's SO distracting, (Morbius, 2022) and SO disruptive (Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, & Rudolph, 1964.) to my reading and (Bird, Grouch, Monster, & Monster, 1997 ) learning process. And why are some of them SO FUCKING (According, 2007; To & All, 1991; Known, Laws, & Of, 2378; Aviation, 57 B.C.E.) LONG???
I am all for the girlies decorating their freshman dorm rooms however they want
make that space comfortable and inviting for you without remorse. go all out. put up that wallpaper as long as it isn’t going to leave damage. bring in those desk covers, extra furniture, the lights, photo wall, elaborate amount of pillows, etc.
please decorate your rooms for the school year with things that make you happy and make it a good place to live in
me: okay we can’t take the exam now
my brain: *frozen in fear*
me: we- WE CAN TAKE THE EXAM NOW
Yes I’ve talked about this repeatedly but
When I say Jo March is aro/ace it’s the aro part that is more important in that statement. It’s because of the importance she places on the love for her family, saying that she doesn’t think she will ever marry, wanting to be loved by a romantic partner but that is not the same as loving. It’s the insecurity she feels over not having the same kind of relationship Meg and Amy have with their husbands or that her mother has with her father, because she doesn’t feel she can love someone in that way and doesn’t know why.
So when I say that Jo March is aro/ace and it’s the aro part of that you try and erase, you have misunderstood why my decision to say she is such is important. You have misunderstood why it’s important to recognize the journey many aromantic people face in accepting that part of themselves, and how other kinds of love, those for our family and friends, can be just as fulfilling in life.

To: [email protected] Subject: CLASS3290 Question
are you mad at me
we need to abolish homework
it is neither healthy nor humane to put kids through an already screwed up and draining education system five days a week and then turn around and put even more stress on them by making them do extra work out of school and punishing them if they don't do it, despite the fact that it's often inaccessible for some kids. like how do you make kids' lives hell and then wonder why so many of them have anxiety and depression
There’s something perversely fascinating about educational policies that are clearly at odds with the available data. Huge schools are still being built even though we know that students tend to fare better in smaller places that lend themselves to the creation of democratic caring communities. Many children who are failed by the academic status quo are forced to repeat a grade even though research shows that this is just about the worst course of action for them. Homework continues to be assigned – in ever greater quantities – despite the absence of evidence that it’s necessary or even helpful in most cases... Supporters of homework rarely look at things from the student’s point of view, though; instead, kids are regarded as inert objects to be acted on: Make them practice and they’ll get better... Children cannot be made to acquire skills. They aren’t vending machines such that we put in more homework and get out more learning.
- Alfie Kohn, 2006, The Truth About Homework (Kohn is a researcher and educator focused on the ways we teach; in 2006 he released a controversial book called The Homework Myth compiling research for the argument that homework as it stands should be abolished.)
blorbo et al. from my academic paper
