imo the way you feel about groups it's fully socially acceptable to hate (like children or polyamorous people, among others) is the canary in the coal mine for underlying bigoted beliefs. if you're only supportive of marginalized groups when it's cool to do so, probably you don't actually care about marginalized groups, you care about other people thinking you care
there are 1 trillion people in the notes of this post saying "yeah! i mean i hate kids but they should have rights!" you hate kids? you mean you hate all members of an oppressed group solely for their membership in this group? right. why do you hate them? because they can't take care of themselves and need help? because they don't understand social norms and can be "annoying" and disrespect boundaries as a result? because they can be messy? because they don't understand things in the same way as you do? that's awesome. how do you feel about disabled people btw
Call me easily impressed, but after thirty-odd years of gaming, boss fight music that starts out with traditional acoustic instrumentation, then when the really good bit kicks in it adds a single electric guitar still gets me pumped every single time.

Conservative men are addicted to sexism and rape culture.
Absolutely love how emotionally aware my child is for a 4 and a half year old do not however love stubbing my toe on the island for the 100th time today and hearing "hey mama it's okay to cry! It's not okay to throw a fit though, and we hafta re-...we have to reconitize the difference"
When I immediately say "oh no thanks" to a food she offers me she says "oh mommy, chefs try new foods. Can you take one , two, bites for me and if you really don't like it then I won't ask forever again deal?"
like you know what fine sure I'll try your truly heinous concoction because I do in fact hafta respect the deals
Do Not Let HR do this to you. It is not illegal to talk about wages in the work place. I did and got a 12% raise!
True info. Now let me add something: The power of documentation. (I was a long time steward in a nurses union.)
Remember: The "'E" in email stands for evidence.
That cuts both ways. Be careful what you put into an email. It never really goes away and can be used against you.
But can also be a powerful tool for workplace fairness.
Case 1: Your supervisor asks you to do something you know is either illegal or against company policy. A verbal request. If things go wrong, you can count on them denying that they ever told you to do that. You go back to your desk, or wherever and you send them an email: "I just want to make sure that I understood correctly that you want me to do xxxxx" Quite often, once they see it in writing, they will change their mind about having you do it. If not, you have documentation.
Case 2: You have a schedule you like, you've had that schedule for a while, it works for you. Your supervisor comes to you and says "We're really short-handed now and I need you to change your schedule just for a month until we can get someone else hired. It's just temporary and you can have your old schedule back after a month." A month goes by and they forget entirely that they made that promise to you. So, once again, when they make the initial request, you send them an email "I'm happy to help out temporarily, but just want to make sure I understand correctly that I will get my old schedule back after a month as you promised." Documentation.
[Image ID: Text reading: In the middle of a busy clinic at our practice, I got pulled in by my manager to speak to HR, who must have made a special trip because she lives several states away, and told I was being 'investigated' for discussing wages with my other employees. She told me it was against company policy to discuss wages.
Me; That's illegal.
Them: (start italics) three slow, long seconds of staring at me blankly (end italics) Uh...
Me: That's an illegal policy to have. The right to discuss wages is a right protected by the National Labor Relations board. I used to be in a union. I know this.
HR: Oh, this is news to me! I have been working HR for 18 years and I never knew that. Haha. Well try not do do it anyway, it makes people upset, haha.
Me: people are entitled to their opinions about what their work is worth. Bye.
I then left, and sent her several texts and emails saying I would like a copy of their company policy to see where this wage discussion policy was kept. She quickly called me back in to her office.
HR: You know what, there is no policy like that in the handbook! I double check. Sorry about the confusion, my apologies.
Me: You still haven't given me the paper saying that we had this discussion. I am going to need some protection against retaliation.
HR: Oh haha yes here you go.
I just received a paper with legal letterhead and an apology saying there was no verbal warning or write up. Don't even take their shit you guys. Keep talking about wages. Know your worth. /End ID]
At one of my old (shit) jobs my boss would continually come have these verbal discussions with me and would never put anything in writing I took to summarizing every discussion we had in email. Like ājust to confirm that you asked me to do X by Y date and you understand that means I wonāt be able to complete the previous task you gave me until Z date - 2 weeks later than originally scheduled - because you want me to prioritize this new project.
The woman would then storm back into my office screaming at me for putting the discussion in writing and arguing about pushing back the other project or whatever. At which point I would summarize that conversation in email as well. Which would bring her storming back in, rinse and repeat ad nauseum.
Anyway I cannot imagine how badly that job would have gone if I hadnāt put all her wildly unreasonable demands in writing. Bitch still hated me but she could never hang me for āmissing deadlinesā because I always had in writing that sheād pushed the project back because she wanted something else done first.
Paper your asses babes. Do not let them get away with shit. If they wonāt put what theyāre asking you to do in writing then write it up yourself and email it to them.
If you don't have this kind of job but someday you'd might: start practicing.
After a casual conversation with friends, write up a brief synopsis of what you discussed & agreed to. (...Do not email this to friends unless you have their agreement that this would be a fun group project.) Get practice with,
"A, B, and C had a brief meeting about food options after the big game. We decided on pizza, with A&B agreeing to contribute X dollars each, and C agreeing to contribute Y dollars and also bring soda. A will call for pizza on the day of the game and schedule it for delivery at 8:30 pm."
"A, B & C discussed movie options. A wanted something lite and fun; B wanted something scifi; C was fine with anything but horror. Nobody wanted superheroes. Decided on Lost Space Wanderers which opened last weekend; C agreed to research theatre options and report tomorrow."
...and so on. Practice describing the results of "meetings" with friends and you'll be ready to sum up "boss told me to set aside Project A to focus on Project B for the next two weeks" - because what's likely is that boss didn't say anything that clear; boss talked about how important Project B is and how the company needs parts X and Y done asap and you have the best skills for that, and when you mentioned how much time Project A was taking, boss said "eh don't worry about that right now; marketing is breathing down my neck so we really need part X by Friday, okay?"
...at no point did you get a direct instruction.
Which is why anyone who is not the screaming-drama boss mentioned above would think it was perfectly reasonable for you to say, "I want to clarify the discussion we had earlier - you told me to focus on Project B to the exclusion of Project A for the next two weeks, even if that means Project A will miss its deadline; is that correct?"
Genuine question: what do I do when the boss in question doesnāt reply to my confirmation email, then says that he never approved the project delay?
In person or over the phone you say "that doesn't match with my memory of the project but let me check my records and I'll get back to you about what happened on this project." Then go back to your desk and write the pettiest email in the world.
To: Boss
From: you
Cc: work group, team lead, project partner, direct supervisor, etc.
(Depending on severity of problem) Bcc: your personal email
"Hi Boss, I'm trying to resolve some confusion here. After our conversation about priority projects on [date] I reached out to you for confirmation of these details (see attached outlook item) and didn't receive an update to the timeline since that communication. I have been working from the agenda we discussed (summarized in attached outlook item from [date]) in absence of further direction. Do you have a copy of your response updating the changes or correcting mistakes in my summary? It's possible that I didn't see your email and I'd like to identify where a communication was missed so that we can avoid issues like this in future projects.
Best,
[Name]"
For this to work you have to be militant about sending summary emails and firm with coworkers and supervisors that you will be documenting project plans via email, but once they're used to your MO it's worth the work.
I think it's really funny how the practice of bleeping out profanity is not only completely ineffective as a censorship tool, it's had the opposite effect of creating an environment where it's ridiculously easy to edit apparent profanity into footage that doesn't actually contain it. Like you can just grab any audio or video clip and bleep out anything and people will automatically mentally insert profanity in there it fucking rules.
Chat, is it considered āabusive roommate behaviorā to release a raccoon into the living space after you have asked your roommate for months to please clean up their messes (they do not pay any of the mortgage)
For context, when I used to live alone I would do something called āPrincess Timeā where I would do an initial sweep (to remove any significant hazards) and then I would release a raccoon into the living area and clean. This helped because I would 1) feel like a princess and 2) the raccoon would bring attention to things my ADHD brain had decided to ignore and Iād quickly clean that stuff up.
So like, if Iām expected to clean the house now, I will be doing it in the way that is most effective for me. And anything that has not been cleaned up after months of having sit-down talks and sending reminders and being promised things will change, might be deemed ātrashā by the trash panda and thrown away.
We havenāt done since we moved into the house, because I didnāt want to cause my roommate or their cats destress or have their things destroyed by a raccoon
I am a raccoon biologist and one of the few people in the state allowed to take in captive bred raccoons that had been possessed illegally. The raccoon in the photos is Moonshine, but she is currently at the animal sanctuary where I work as I had been quarantining multiple new intakes from an abuse case. I still have two males (Rum Tum Tugger and Electra) left in my home enclosure as we are getting them neutered and then hopefully sending them to an AZA accredited zoo.
I wanna make things very clear that underneath all the whimsy, I am a trained professional.
Those vibes are likely because Iām the original creator of Dashcon and my personality has not changed since 2012 lmao

irritating as fuck when people get mad at Black people existing in premodern historical fiction/fantasy media. like first of all, you're racist. and second of all, you are acting as though Black people didn't exist in premodern Europe which is simply false. especially when we're talking about the Mediterranean, like what the fuck do you people think is along the southern half of the Mediterranean Ocean?? everyone's on boats, there are GOING to be interactions with Black people in Northern Africa, and there are GOING to be Black people in Mediterranean Europe. stop being stupid. your imagined homogeneous white European past is not historical reality, get over it you massive losers
I know I say this a lot, but itās crazy to me that the atla fandom has any sort of tendency at all to portray zuko as rational, levelheaded, clever, knowledgeable, studious, meticulous, practical, reasonable, logical, or otherwise intelligent. while he does possess certain strengths, his greatest are his grit and tenacity, resilience built up through a lifetime of failures born of a tendency for heedlessness, rushing into choices without thinking through the consequences or weighing his options whatsoever. he has his moments, to be sure, but thatās largely because he happens to be far luckier than he gives himself credit for. oh, and while weāre at it, heās also certainly not stoic, aloof, even-tempered, mature, or quiet. the fact that heās foolhardy and impulsive and reckless and dramatic and loud and emotionally expressive and myopically driven and strong-willed are sort of his defining qualities, actually. theyāre also the traits that make his character actually endearing, so im not really sure why people seem so determined to negate them.
op's tags are too true:
#thinking again abt how he literally had aang's exactly address and instead decided to kidnap appa. #which means he's either illiterate or an idiot #at least one of which is certainly true
ZUKKO IS A FUCKING IDIOT YALL. IDK WHAT TO TELL YOU.
Throughout the series he tests the worldās patience.
In season one when Xiao and him are beefing, Xiao purposely triggers him into a fight after Xiao rightfully fucking loses. and Zuko damn near takes the bait. if it wasnāt for Iroh, he would be dead.
Zuko goes through all the events of season one and damn near dies in the finale from fucking hypothermia. This time, if Aang didnāt save him, he would be fucking dead.
In season two he tries to lightning bend on his own- a practice that Iroh literally tells him that will kill him and he does it out of spite. Spite and teen angst, but spite nonetheless.
He goes through a character arc so detrimental to his mental health that it almost takes him out from a borderline life altering sickness. To which he recovers via his motherās memory.
He smiles for the first time- God knows how long heās experienced the closest thing to peace heās ever touched since his mother died- and he goes back to his abusive family. Granted that not surprising in the process of recovering from an abusive relationship. Victims of abuse often goes back to their abusers out of a place of normality.
But from an outsiders point of view, and without the knowledge that comes with that relationship, itās stupid as hell. Even from an objective point of view. He and Iroh have literally stated that Azula is a psychopath- and he still goes back to her.
And in season three he has everything he wants AND HE GOSE BACK TO TJE AVATAR.
THE GUY HES BEEN HUNTING FOR YEARS.
THE GUY HES MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY TOYED WITH
A GUY HE DAMN NEAR KILLED IN THE PROCESS OF SIDDING W HIS SISTER.
All of this this is but a fragment of Zukoās stupidity.
BECAUSE HES A FUCKING TEENAGER.
A BABY.
The largest mass shooting in American history was a hate crime against gay people. Donāt ever forget that.
June 12, 2016. Putting a date on this for when it gets reblogged months from now by people who think the post is about something from 30, 40 years ago.
I am a survivor of the Pulse nightclub shooting, having grown up in Orlando and just turned 20 a month prior. If you didnāt know, there were several families who refused to claim the bodies of their relatives due to their sexuality. One family even had their relativeās name removed from the memorial. Murdered by the same hate with which their families reject them in both life and death.
Many, many people celebrated Pulse. We were told we deserved it. That it was Godās punishment for our sin of loving the same sex. We are sent messages like these I received in 2018:
We in the community often call the victim count 49+ to include the survivors who couldnāt live with the pain.
The event was never officially declared a hate crime or targeted homophobic attack and is rarely listed as one in databases.
At our vigils for those slaughtered, Extremist Christian groups showed up to protest, holding signs like this:
ID: Me kissing a woman I was casually seeing in front of an angry looking man with a āSodomy is Sinā sign.
Please understand how much more than just a mass shooting this was. We are still to this day harassed and told we deserved it by some.
This year was the sixth anniversary. The first couple years I received dozens of messages checking in on me on 6/12. Year 5 got enough news coverage for people to think to reach out to me. This year it was my therapist, the woman I kissed in that photo, and a couple of other gun violence survivor friends. People are forgetting already.
With the 7 year anniversary <2 weeks away, I figured Iād reblog this
Hate is long lasting, but love is eternal.
every time someone realizes they dont have to pick between being a boy or a girl an angel gets its wings btw. and also extremely loud cheering can be heard in the distance from me specifically
btw if you've ever wondered why i make posts like this and get really obnoxious about nonbinary positivity. this is why
and for all of yall that are still figuring it out or aren't getting the support you deserve:
@this-is-nonbinary-joy
Okay but do you accept intersex people who are happy in their bodies? Do you accept intersex people who don't experience body dysphoria? Do you accept intersex people who are cis and comfortable with it? Do you accept intersex people who don't need/want medical interventions? Do you accept intersex people who have no interest in sport or other gendered activities?
Do you accept that all these people still experience discrimination and hate, often from gay and trans people as well as cishet people?
Or are we just your logical strategy to win an argument against transphobes?

when i was a kid i decided that killing people was bad therefore war was bad therefore the military was evil. and adults would tell me it's more nuanced than that and i would understand when i grew up. well i'm a grown up now and idk i still think that killing people is bad and war is bad and the military is evil
if you are a parent, or may become one, or you are otherwise likely to arrive in the situation of caring for a child while they eat, promise me this: if a child doesn't like a certain food or food group, you will ask them WHY. and specifically, you will pay attention to either confirming or ruling out "it makes my mouth itch" or "it makes my stomach hurt," both of which are medically important info that children may not provide unprompted. which i know because this PSA has been brought to you by "i spent my entire childhood and much of my early teens eating peas and lentils while wondering why everyone else liked the Violently Itchy Mouth Sensation so much, like were they a bunch of legume masochists or something, before i finally realized that Violently Itchy Mouth Sensation was in fact a sinister demon appearing only to me, and her true demonic name was: Legume Allergy"
Do not let your child suffer from spicy bananas!
