This week, Tunisia passed a truly historic constitution widely heralded as a progressive and monumental document.  Here’s just some of what these brave elected representatives agreed upon in the face of strong pressure from the more extreme factions of their parties:

Guaranteed equality between men and women

A constitutional mandate for environmental protection, only the third country in the world to do so

A declaration that health care is a human right, with preventative care and treatment for every citizen

A democracy with civil laws that respects freedom of religion

An established right to due process and protection from torture

A former member of Michael Bloomberg’s gun control group claimed this week that the group’s objectives are far more radical than it has let on.

John Tkazyik, the mayor of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., said he quit the former New York City mayor’s group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, after he realized its objective was outright confiscation of firearms from law-abiding citizens.

“Under the guise of helping mayors facing a crime and drug epidemic, MAIG intend[s] to promote confiscation of guns from law-abiding citizens,” Tkazyik wrote in a Wednesday column in the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Surprise, surprise….not. It’s no mystery that this is the end game that gun control fanatics have wet dreams about. Nothing gets a leftist’s blood racing and his shorts puckering out than the image of police kicking in doors and taking weapons from law abiding Americans.
