I first discovered the Marvis line in a hipster general store in Toronto. I was very surprised by the variety of toothpaste flavours they offered. Aside from the usual mint and cinnamon, they have liquorice, ginger, and jasmine (as pictured). As usual, I caved in to curiosity and bought a tube of Jasmin Mint. I have to admit, a floral toothpaste was a bit of an acquired taste, but in time I really enjoyed it.
This was several years ago. I have become reluctant to make a habit out of buying expensive toiletries (well, depending on which way the wind blows). I decided to pick it up again around Christmastime as a treat, since I was able to source some here in Ottawa. Now that I have entered another decade of my life, I realize that I have to use products that actually work, not just taste or smell nice. Using Maris toothpaste this time around, I didn't feel like my teeth were being taken care of. My tooth sensitivity returned with a vengeance, and an exposed nerve has once again exposed itself. Also, my overnight guests hated it.
In conclusion, designer toothpaste is great and all, but in the future, I will opt for something that ensures me that it's good for me, not out to seduce me.
Visit their graphic-intense website for more details, if you dare: http://marvismint.com
When I'm not on Tumblr, I am vlogging on YouTube (it's a k-pop channel... tread with caution). I recently learned the hard way that BB cream isn't enough when you appear in HD. Holy smokes, was I glossy? Years ago my vanity would have prevented me from uploading anything that made me look cringeworthy, but it's a good thing I no longer take myself too seriously.
I was still prompted to invest in foundation again. I haven't actually worn it in years, so I wasn't going for the bells and whistles. I decided to try Cover Girl Clean, because the price was right, and the label whispered sweet nothings to my greasy-ass skin.
Sure enough, the application was lightweight and kept me matte the whole day. Way to go, Cover Girl.

Today was the first time I made Russian potato salad. It has been a staple at my family Easter brunches for years. And because I live far from home now, I wanted to serve it at our Good Friday party tonight. It's a really strange mix of ingredients, but honestly... it will always be one of my favourite comfort foods.
7 russet potatoes, peeled and cubed 300 g Hungarian salami, chopped 4 boiled eggs, chopped 15 baby pickles, chopped 1 can (398 mL) peas & carrots 1 cup mayonnaise 1/8 cup vinegar salt & pepper
Bring potato cubes to a boil in cold, salted water. Simmer for 8 minutes, and rinse with cold water and drain. Carefully combine ingredients one by one, finishing with the mayonnaise. Add salt and pepper to taste. Chill for at least 3 hours. Mix in a drizzle of vegetable oil before serving to moisten if needed. Makes about 8 servings.
Now that I live with my boyfriend, I thought I would have to teach him how to apply hair dye. I don't think it will be necessary now that foam colour exists. I'm behind in the times in trying it, because I was getting my hair dyed professionally for a while. I am very pleased with this product. It's actually my first time trying anything John Frieda. The foam goes a very long way. The plastic gloves are professional grade and tight. The conditioner is nice and rich. I noticed that when I was rinsing, my hair felt smooth, and not tight like with other types of hair dye. Ask me in a couple weeks how the grey coverage goes :)

While building my Demeter Fragrance wish list, I came across these very unusual scent selections. None of them made my cut sadly, but they're all high-rated from other users. Now I've seen everything.

Extra old cheddar, avocado, salt and pepper on grilled rye. Thinking of using jalepeño havarti next time!
I have been vying for this hand soap for a long time now, but I was really reluctant to pay $22.00 CDN for a god damn hand soap. So to my delight, my local Indigo have marked their MOR cosmetics down to half off. Get them before they're gone, since they are priced to clear! Or if you lack the sense of urgency, check out their website. Now I too can give my (boyfriend's) bathroom that touch of elegance from down under. http://www.morcosmetics.com http://chapters.indigo.ca
I know it sounds like a weird product, but it's so good. A great twist on the usual peanut butter. I actually lay in bed last night, dreaming about the next time I should have a taste. In fact, I'm going to have some after I type this.
I'm a fan of this brand in general. I try a different jar every time. Check them out. They're more than likely in your local organic section.

New favourite perfume: Pacifica Tuscan Blood Orange. I picked it up on a whim on my day trip to New York. I've always been a citrus fan, but this is a more sophisticated and soft take on the usual zest. To my American neighbors, $10 at your local Wegmans!

On a side note, this scent is boyfriend approved!
It's been a very dizzying few weeks of fall TV trailers. There are a good dozen shows I'd like to see, but I do not want to commit that much time to my couch. This is a conscious decision I actually can't believe I'm making...
Anyway, of all of the pilots lined up on my DVR waiting for my acceptance, New Girl garnered the biggest reaction. It's really funny, it's sweet, it's relatable, it's sincere. It's my sole can't-miss of the season, basically.
Now burning: Slatkin & Co. scented candle in Kitchen Spice. This scent encompasses every one of my favourite autumn notes at once. Sweet and cozy with a hint of spice. God, I love this time of year.
I am a pretty faithful red drinker. And I do mean Australian shiraz, yahurd. But the other night, I had a sip from a friend's glass of Gallo's white zinfandel, and it went down all too easily. It's a very sweet, fruity wine (which I prefer) and we are definitely nabbing a bottle for sangria purposes.
I sampled some of this stuff today (MAC Lip Conditioner) and it gave me a delightful hint of colour, and hours later, my lips are still so darn supple. Way to hit another nail on the head, MAC.

I bought these last night, and they are seriously tasty things. My boyfriend and I could have eaten the whole box. It's like taking a huge bite of cookie dough. Hopefully anyone outside of Canada can find a worthy substitute.
Sorry, this journal is slowly turning foodie on me. But I am food's biggest fan lately, and I've got the thighs to prove it.
Butter. Chicken. Poutine.
I don't know how my radar missed this, but I assure you, it will be in my belly within the next seven days.
